Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has unveiled ambitious plans for a healthcare overhaul, signaling the imminent launch of redesigned health cards aimed at revolutionizing healthcare access in the province.

Alongside the card revamp, proposals for the renovation of Basic Health Units (BHUs) and Rural Health Centers (RHCs) have been disclosed, underlining a commitment to bolster primary healthcare infrastructure.

Notably, a significant stride towards accessible healthcare includes the provision of free medicines in government hospital emergency departments, with plans for home delivery scheduled to kick off on May 1st, easing accessibility for patients across Punjab.

In a bid to enhance healthcare standards further, recommendations are being sought to refine the pathology system and elevate overall healthcare standards. Maryam Nawaz has additionally called for proposals to establish a medical city in three districts, a move anticipated to significantly augment healthcare facilities.

Furthermore, efforts to utilize vacant and uninhabited hospital buildings to expand healthcare access underscore the government’s dedication to providing quality care to all citizens. With emphasis placed on the fundamental right of Punjab’s populace to access free medicines, coupled with the slated completion of major hospital revamps by June, the healthcare landscape in Punjab stands poised for a transformative leap forward.
