Hiring partners in Vietnam on rent to release familial pressure becomes a new trend

A new trend is also gaining momentum in Vietnam where societal as well as familial pressures thrust young women to seek desperate solutions. Hiring partners in Vietnam has become one of the most popular strategies for young women trying to navigate culturally expected marriage and family obligations.

Minh Thu, a professional who is 30 years old, was constantly being told by her parents to bring a boyfriend home for the Lunar New Year. She had no one, so she hired partners in Vietnam temporarily to fill the role. Her rented boyfriend, trained in social etiquette and domestic skills, won over her family’s approval.

Similarly, Khanh Ngoc also found relief through this trend. She hired a younger, charismatic man who impressed her parents during their first meeting. This not only eased family tensions but also strengthened her relationship with her parents.

Hiring partners have also opened up new business opportunities in Vietnam. For example, 25-year-old entrepreneur Huy Tuan has built a profitable career from this demand. He prepares hard to meet numerous clients’ needs ranging from casual outings with friends to special family occasions.

However, experts raise red flags regarding some of its potential downsides. According to Nguyen Thanh Nga, a researcher with Vietnam’s Academy of Journalism and Communication, hiring partners comes with emotional and social risks.

“If families find out about it, they might feel betrayed and would have many emotional problems. Also, such arrangements don’t carry any legal protections, which are additional risks to the participants, she said”.

The trend has sparked mixed reactions online. Some hail it as a practical solution to societal pressures, while others voice concerns about the emotional toll and ethical implications.

Despite its contentious nature, hiring partners in Vietnam continues to grow in popularity, highlighting the evolving ways people manage personal and societal expectations.
