Corporate philanthropy in Pakistan has reached a major milestone, with the Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy’s latest report revealing that businesses contributed an impressive PKR 25.44 billion toward social causes in 2023. To celebrate this achievement, PCP held the Corporate Philanthropy Awards 2025 on November 19 at Serena Hotel, Islamabad.
Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Muhammad Aurangzeb attended as the Chief Guest and commended corporate leaders for their continued support during a challenging economic period. He praised the private sector’s role in driving social development despite the pressures of slow growth and financial uncertainty.
The ceremony brought together leading figures from business, civil society and academia. Attendees included PCP Board Chairman Zaffar A. Khan, MNA Dr. Nafisa Shah, Dr. Attiya Inayatullah, Executive Director Shazia Maqsood Amjad and senior representatives of major corporations across Pakistan.
Sharing highlights from the report, PCP’s Executive Director noted that Public Listed Companies contributed the largest share of donations, totaling PKR 18.23 billion. Public Unlisted Companies donated PKR 3.28 billion, while Private Limited Companies contributed PKR 3.93 billion.
KSE-100 companies alone donated PKR 15.24 billion, with contributions from KSE-30 firms reaching PKR 8.80 billion. Among all corporate segments, the Glass and Ceramics group recorded the highest giving ratio at 7.80 percent of their total profits, setting a strong benchmark for socially responsible practices.
Eighteen companies received awards for their outstanding philanthropic impact, including Oil & Gas Development Company, Mari Energies Ltd, Bank Alfalah Ltd, Yunus Textile Mills Ltd, Novatex Ltd, Barrett Hodgson Pakistan Pvt Ltd, U.S. Denim Mills Pvt Ltd, Fast Cables Ltd, KSB Pumps Ltd, Unity Foods Ltd, The Searle Company Ltd, Y.B. Pakistan Ltd and Ghani Ceramics Ltd.
The event also featured a panel discussion titled “Philanthropy Ecosystem in Pakistan: Opportunities and Challenges,” chaired by PCP Vice Chairman Badaruddin F. Vellani. Panelists including Mehnaz Akbar Aziz, Ahmer Bilal Soofi, Asif Rasool, Dr. Faisal Sultan and Zia Akhter Abbas examined regulatory barriers, taxation concerns and opportunities to strengthen Pakistan’s philanthropy landscape.
Their discussion provided valuable insights into policy gaps and emphasized the importance of collaboration between regulators, policymakers and philanthropy networks. PCP reiterated its commitment to working with stakeholders to support a healthier and more effective giving ecosystem.
In his closing remarks, Zaffar A. Khan underscored the importance of corporate philanthropy in complementing national development efforts. He noted that the 20th edition of PCP’s survey continues to serve as a vital reference for documenting and promoting the contributions of Pakistan’s corporate sector.
