Federal Minister for Planning, Ahsan Iqbal, emphasized on Sunday that the restoration of Pakistan’s economy remains the government’s foremost challenge. In a conversation with a private news channel, Iqbal highlighted the critical need for dedicated efforts to steer the country back onto a path of progress and development over the next two to three years.
Commitment to Economic Stability
During the interview, Iqbal underlined the government’s commitment to addressing the economic difficulties currently facing the nation. “The restoration of Pakistan’s economy is our top priority,” he stated, adding that with sustained efforts, the government aims to achieve stability and development in the coming years.
Iqbal also expressed optimism about the future, noting that despite the daunting challenges, the government remains resolute in its mission to navigate the country through this difficult period. “We are dedicated to overcoming these economic hardships and steering the country towards stability,” he affirmed.
Criticism of Past Leadership
Responding to a question about the root causes of the current economic situation, Iqbal pointed to what he described as the mismanagement by previous leadership. He attributed the ongoing economic challenges to the leadership that took office in 2018, referring to the then-government as inexperienced. “The country is facing economic difficulties today because an inexperienced individual was brought into power in 2018,” Iqbal remarked, alluding to the previous administration.
He suggested that the economic turmoil Pakistan is experiencing now is a consequence of the policies and decisions made during that time, which he believes lacked the necessary expertise to manage the country’s complex economic needs.
PML-N’s Track Record of Economic Recovery
Despite the current economic challenges, Iqbal expressed confidence in the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) ability to restore financial stability. He pointed to the party’s historical record of navigating similar crises, suggesting that the PML-N has the experience and capability to lead the country out of its present economic difficulties.
“The PML-N has overcome financial hardships in the past, and we are determined to do so again,” Iqbal stated. He referenced the PML-N’s previous terms in government, during which the party implemented measures that led to significant economic improvements, and assured that similar efforts would be undertaken to restore economic growth and stability.
Looking Ahead
As Pakistan grapples with significant economic challenges, the government’s focus remains on devising and implementing strategies that will lead to recovery. Ahsan Iqbal’s remarks reflect the administration’s understanding of the urgent need for economic stability and its commitment to working toward a brighter future for the country.
With a renewed focus on economic reform and development, the government aims to set Pakistan on a sustainable path to growth, ensuring that the hardships faced by the people today are alleviated in the near future. The coming years will be critical in determining the success of these efforts and the overall trajectory of the nation’s economy.
