Pakistan’s top javelin thrower, Arshad Nadeem, has resumed training following knee surgery in the UK, gearing up for the Paris Olympics slated for July-August. The surgery, conducted in February 2024, aimed to address a chronic injury that previously sidelined Arshad, leading to his exclusion from the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou.
The decision came after the Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP) consulted London-based orthopedic surgeon Dr. Ali Sher Bajwa, reviewing Arshad’s medical reports. AFP chairperson Major General (retired) Mohammad Akram Sahi confirmed plans to send Arshad abroad for training once he regains optimal fitness.
Arshad, eyeing a podium finish after finishing 5th in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, aims to outshine his main rival Neeraj Chopra, who secured Gold in Tokyo after training abroad. Coach Salman Butt expressed unwavering determination to ensure Arshad’s thorough preparation for the Paris Olympics, emphasizing the athlete’s ambition for significant success on the global stage.
“We will make every effort to make him fit for the Paris Olympics.”
As Arshad embarks on his journey to Paris, hopes run high for Pakistan’s representation and achievement in the prestigious sporting event.
