The Ministry of Science and Technology, Pakistan has recommended the government to stop production and purchase of conventional fans. The ban will be implemented from July this year as part of the energy conversation plan.
A leading newspaper revealed that the National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (NEECA) was given a task to initiate production of energy -efficient fans that can operate on 80Watts.
The Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) was also asked to alter the fan production standards.
As per the new directions, the production and purchase of fans consuming 80 watts will fall in one-star category, while fans with AC inverters consuming 45-50 Watts of energy will be categorised as five star.
A meeting will also be held with the industry experts for manufacturing energy -efficient appliances to save electricity. It is proposed to sell these fans on installment to the consumers and the cost will be adjusted in the electricity bill. Furthermore, each household will be allocated only one of these fans.
