Cricket enthusiasts around the globe have longed for the resumption of bilateral cricket between India and Pakistan, a rivalry steeped in history and fervor. However, it has been more than a decade since the two cricketing giants last faced each other in a bilateral series, with encounters now limited to ICC or ACC events.
Amidst the yearning of fans to witness Indo-Pak cricketing clashes, Cricket Australia (CA) has once again stepped up to the plate, proposing a tri-nation series involving themselves, India, and Pakistan. Peter Roch, the operations manager at CA, expressed the widespread desire to witness these two cricketing powerhouses compete on the global stage.
“It’s fair to say that every country in the world would love to see India & Pakistan competing in their country. We’re on record as saying that we’re one of those countries that have asked the question. There’s no room in our schedule to do that at the moment, but we’ll keep talking to them & consider any other opportunities that arise.”
While the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has consistently shown interest in rekindling cricketing ties with India, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has remained apprehensive. Despite past bilateral series, the last being in 2012 with Pakistan emerging victorious, encounters between the two nations have been limited to multi-team tournaments.
With the T20 World Cup 2024 approaching in June, cricket aficionados eagerly anticipate the clash between India and Pakistan on June 9th. As CA extends an invitation to host a tri-nation series, both boards face a critical decision regarding the future of Indo-Pak cricketing relations. Will this proposal mark the revival of cricketing ties between the arch-rivals, or will the status quo prevail, leaving fans yearning for more? Only time will tell as the cricketing world awaits a decision with bated breath.
