Jahangir Anwar, Secretary Punjab’s Environment Protection Department, refuted these claims and claimed that the government was taking serious measures in this regard. Office work is to be shifted to online or remote setups and there will be a halt on the plying of rickshaws on congested roads.

Smog crisis is a yearly ritual in South Asia, characterized by a plume of dust, vehicle emissions, and stubble burning from agricultural fields. Punjab officials have blamed much of this year’s smog on cross-border pollution from India, where air quality has also reached hazardous levels.

To tackle the crisis, the state government of Punjab has established a “smog war room” armed with satellite and drone technology as well as artificial intelligence tools to monitor and combat pollution. Experts say it is taking a toll on her body because living in microgravity puts more strain on the astronauts.

Astronaut Sunita William and Barry Wilmore assured food by NASA

Concerns are creeping up about whether Williams and Wilmore are running out of supplies, but NASA has reassured the public. In August, the space agency confirmed that the ISS is well-stocked in food, water, clothing, and oxygen. Two spacecraft recently delivered over 8,000 pounds of food and cargo to support the crew.

Yet Williams and her team continue to consume the food stocks in ISS stores although it is marred by health concerns. In space, astronauts usually consume pre-prepared food designed to exist in microgravity. These foods are mainly dehydrated foods, including fruits and soups that can be rehydrated with added water. Others include thermostabilized foods usually in the form of canned fruits, fish, or meat. Finally, frozen foods in the form of casseroles and quiches from NASA.

Williams was recently photographed in a viral photo enjoying her slice of pizza; given the nature of their menus, the pizza is probably one of the frozen meals that NASA astronauts have ordered.

The food is intended to ensure that the astronauts are well-nourished during their time in space.

As a growing health concern for Sunita Williams and other astronauts who are left stranded for longer periods, NASA recognizes this need and promises to give them adequate nutrition that would last through their time in space.

Overseas Pakistani company offers 1.25 trillion for PIA privatization

Major overseas Pakistani group Al-Nahang has put forward an amount of more than Rs1.25 trillion for PIA privatization. Based on reports from ARY News, the offer submitted to the higher government functionaries includes the Ministers for Privatization, Aviation and Defence.

This comes barely a week after the KP government expressed interest in the PIA privatization process. The KP Investment Board has also sent a letter to the Federal Minister for Privatization expressing their intent to participate in the bid.

In a separate development, the president of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz said that it was his daughter, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, who came up with the thought of grabbing PIA and rebranding it as “Air Punjab.” Sharif said he made that plan to transform PIA into a state-of-the-art, competition-standard airline.

Only one contender, the real-estate company Blue World City, filed its final bid for the privatization of PIA. This amount was an unbelievable Rs 10 billion for 60% shares, which is only one-tenth of the government’s minimum requirement of Rs 85 billion.

Now that Al-Nahang has placed such a big offer on the table, it can change the direction of privatization. The rationale behind the offer is based on financial stability and employee welfare, which may be the very elixir to revive the ailing airline.
