Pakistan tops global ranking with a sense of responsibility to look after others, according to a new global survey conducted by Ipsos, a Paris-based research firm. This new global survey shows that Pakistanis exhibit a deep sense of compassion, as eight out of ten respondents claimed to put others’ needs ahead of their own. Thus, Pakistan is way ahead of many countries in selflessness and stands out among other Islamic nations.

Notably, Pakistanis are also extremely traditional. Most Pakistanis define success in terms of material possessions, and nearly 80% say that material wealth is a hallmark of success. This makes the country one of the most aspirational societies in the world, and this again goes beyond even China. Pakistan and India are the world’s most career-oriented societies, and once more this reflects a culture that equates work with worth.

“Pakistan’s spirit of caring is evident globally,” said Simon Atkinson, Chief Knowledge Officer, Ipsos. And, he added, whereas most global trends may speak of societal collapse before such a time, most Pakistanis do not. Only a quarter of respondents in Pakistan expect this. Meanwhile, fully two-thirds of Indians see some decline.

The survey also reflected Pakistan’s deep-rooted traditionalism, especially regarding women. Over 82% of Pakistanis see women’s role as being mothers and wives, thus making Pakistan a leader in the practice of upholding traditional family values. Religion is also considered to be of utmost importance to nearly all Pakistanis, who place stress on faith as a necessary element of life. Pakistan ranked fourth worldwide for prioritizing religious values, just behind countries such as Indonesia, Zambia, and Nigeria.

Almost 80% believe that having children is not only a duty to their respective families but also to their society. This percentage again is much higher than it is globally.
