Best Cooking Oils for Your Health

Navigating the array of cooking oils available can be daunting, especially when considering their impact on health. Here’s a guide to some of the healthiest cooking oils that can complement your culinary needs:

Fats play an essential role in your health. Incorporating healthy fats into meals and snacks can improve nutrient absorption, promote heart health, and help boost your food’s flavor and satiety factor.

However, choosing the right kinds of fats, including cooking oils, is critical. While some oils are more appropriate for higher-heat cooking and may also provide health benefits, others may harm health if used too often.

Here are the best and worst cooking oils for your health, and tips for choosing the best oils for your needs and preferences.

1. Olive Oil:

  • Heart-Healthy: Extra virgin olive oil is rich in monounsaturated fats, known to promote heart health by lowering LDL (bad) cholesterol levels.
  • Antioxidant-Rich: Its high content of antioxidants like polyphenols may reduce inflammation and offer other health benefits.

2. Avocado Oil:

  • High Smoke Point: Ideal for high-heat cooking due to its high smoke point, making it suitable for frying and grilling.
  • Heart Benefits: Packed with monounsaturated fats, it supports heart health and may aid in reducing inflammation.

3. Coconut Oil:

  • Medium-Chain Fatty Acids: Contains medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) that may promote weight loss and boost energy.
  • Debate on Health Impact: While some praise its health benefits, its high saturated fat content remains controversial in terms of cardiovascular health.

4. Canola Oil:

  • Low in Saturated Fat: Known for its low saturated fat content and high levels of heart-healthy monounsaturated fats.
  • Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Contains omega-3 fatty acids, beneficial for heart health and reducing inflammation.

5. Walnut Oil:

  • Omega-3 Source: Rich in omega-3 fatty acids, offering potential benefits for heart health and inflammation reduction.
  • Delicate Flavor: Its delicate nutty flavor makes it suitable for salad dressings and low-heat cooking.

6. Grapeseed Oil:

  • High Smoke Point: Ideal for high-heat cooking methods like frying due to its high smoke point.
  • Polyunsaturated Fats: Contains polyunsaturated fats, including omega-6 fatty acids, which may support heart health.

Using Minimal or No Cooking Oil
When it comes to overall health and disease prevention, your diet as a whole is most important, although it is advised to prioritize healthier fats, such as the oils mentioned above, and to minimize your intake of less healthy fats and meals manufactured with them.

Diets that are well-rounded should contain fats since they are vital to good health. Making the proper type of oil choice when cooking will help ensure that you’re getting the optimum amount of fat and nutrients.

You should prioritize healthy fats like olive, avocado, and sesame oil and minimize less healthy cooking oils like soybean, corn, and canola oil, even though your entire diet is what matters most for your health.

In addition to protecting your health, using healthier oils and knowing what smoke points are will enhance the flavor and quality of your favorite meals.

Islamabad United, on the other hand, opted to retain Shadab Khan and traded for the young fast bowler Naseem Shah in the Platinum category, also appointing Sarfaraz Ahmed as their Brand Ambassador.

Lahore Qalandars strategically retained captain Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf in the Diamond category, and Sikandar Raza in Gold. Notably, they chose to retain Rashid Khan despite injury concerns, emphasizing the value they place on the world-class spinner.

Peshawar Zalmi secured their core by retaining Babar Azam and Rovman Powell in the Platinum category, with Mohammad Haris appointed as their Brand Ambassador.

Multan Sultans, under the captaincy of Mohammad Rizwan, made calculated moves by retaining Iftikhar Ahmed and welcoming Brand Ambassador Ihsanullah into the fold. The team appears set to build on its previous successes with a blend of experienced players and fresh talent.

Meta to Enhance Transparency with Watermarking for AI-Generated Images

In a move to improve transparency, Meta Platforms will soon introduce invisible watermarking to its text-to-image AI model, Imagine. This feature aims to prevent misuse and ensure the authenticity of AI-generated images.

Meta’s decision comes after the successful rollout of AI-powered products like the Imagine chatbot and smart glasses in late September. Recognizing the growing importance of AI, Meta is leveraging large language models like the custom Llama 2 model to create innovative products that enhance user experience.

The invisible watermarking will be resilient to common image manipulations like cropping and screenshots, further solidifying its role in ensuring image authenticity. This move also aligns with Meta’s ongoing efforts to explore over 20 ways to integrate generative AI into its social media platforms like Instagram and WhatsApp.

Currently, Imagine is only available in the U.S. However, Meta is expanding access and testing ways to improve search capabilities across its various products. This commitment to innovation and transparency demonstrates Meta’s dedication to utilizing AI technology responsibly and ethically.

HEC removes Pakistan Studies as compulsory subject

In a significant shift in Pakistan’s higher education landscape, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) has decided to remove Pakistan Studies as a compulsory subject for undergraduate programs. The policy, slated to take effect in the 2023 scheme of studies, means that BA, BSc, and all honors degree programs will no longer mandate the inclusion of Pakistan Studies in their curricula.

However, this decision has not been without its share of criticism. Officials, including representatives from the Federation of All Pakistan Academic Staff Association and Dr. Amjad Magsi, the General Secretary of the Punjab University Academic Staff Association, have voiced concerns. They argue that this move might question national sentiment and have urged the HEC to reconsider, emphasizing that Pakistan Studies should not be replaced with another subject.

In response, the HEC clarified that universities are not obligated to strictly adhere to this policy; it will be an individual institution’s decision whether or not to include Pakistan Studies in their undergraduate programs. This development sparks a debate on the balance between academic flexibility and the preservation of national identity within the educational framework.

Ravi Bishnoi Becomes World No. 1 T20I Bowler Just After 34 Wickets

The recent surge in Ravi Bishnoi’s ICC T20I bowling rankings has left fans questioning the transparency and fairness of the ranking system, particularly when it comes to Indian players. Bishnoi, after a standout performance in the T20I series against Australia, has claimed the top spot in the rankings, surpassing seasoned bowlers like Rashid Khan.

In the 5-match T20I series between India and Australia, Bishnoi showcased his prowess by taking nine wickets at an impressive average of 18.22 and an economy rate of 8.20 runs per over. India emerged victorious in the series with a 4-1 scoreline. However, the sudden elevation of Bishnoi to the world number 1 T20I bowler has raised eyebrows among fans who question the integrity of the ICC ranking system.

Bishnoi’s limited experience in T20Is, having played only 21 matches and taken 34 wickets, stands in stark contrast to the more seasoned Rashid Khan, who has played 82 T20Is. Despite Rashid’s extensive record and consistent performances, he now finds himself relegated to the second position in the rankings with 692 points, while Bishnoi boasts 699 points.

The third position is occupied by Sri Lankan bowler Wanindu Hasaranga with 679 points, who, like Rashid, has a more extensive T20I career with 58 matches played. The discrepancy in rankings has sparked a debate on the ICC’s calculation formula, especially given Bishnoi’s sudden rise from the 19th position with 603 points before the series.

Even after a challenging start in the series where Bishnoi conceded 54 runs for one wicket, his ranking paradoxically improved to 18th with 614 points. This inconsistency raises questions about the reliability of the ICC rankings and whether there are variations in the calculation formula for certain Indian players.

The recent anomalies in the rankings, including Suryakumar Yadav’s surpassing of Rizwan in T20Is, add to the growing skepticism among fans regarding the ICC’s evaluation methods. As discussions unfold, cricket enthusiasts await clarity on the criteria governing player rankings to ensure a fair and impartial system.

Pakistan Ends Free Electricity for Power Officials: What You Need to Know

Effective December 1st, Pakistan has ended the longstanding practice of providing free electricity to its power officials, including employees of DISCOs, GENCOs, WAPDA, and NTDC. This move comes after the federal cabinet approved monetizing the free electricity units previously offered to these employees.

What Does This Mean?

Instead of receiving free electricity units, power officials will now receive a monthly utility allowance based on their grade. This allowance aims to compensate them for the cost of their electricity consumption.
