The Dangers of Obsessive Healthy Eating: Researchers Warn Against Orthorexia

Rise of Restrictive Diets and Mental Health Concerns

In a world increasingly preoccupied with wellness trends and dietary fads, a group of researchers is sounding the alarm over the dark side of so-called “healthy eating.” While nutritious diets are vital for good health, experts caution that an excessive fixation on consuming only “clean” or “healthy” foods can ironically harm both physical and mental well-being. This growing obsession, termed orthorexia, is now being linked to eating disorders, nutritional deficiencies, and significant psychological distress.

Study Uncovers Orthorexia Among Fashion Models

A recent survey by Semmelweis University in Hungary, reported by The Telegraph, examined the eating habits of 179 fashion models. The findings were revealing: more than one-third of these models showed signs of orthorexia. Unlike more widely recognized disorders such as anorexia or bulimia, orthorexia is characterized by an unhealthy obsession with food purity rather than body image or weight loss.

Warning signs of orthorexia include rigid adherence to self-imposed dietary rules, avoidance of social gatherings for fear of encountering “unhealthy” foods, and distress when routines are disrupted. The consequences can be physical as well as psychological, with symptoms such as hair loss, brittle nails, fatigue, and emotional stress emerging among those affected.

Nutritional Deficiencies and Social Isolation

Dr Nikolett Bogar from the Institute of Behavioural Sciences at Semmelweis University highlighted the dangers of cutting out major food groups. “If a person consumes only certain categories of food—such as fish, vegetables, green produce, raw items or carbohydrate-free dishes—they may easily develop nutrient deficiencies, similar to those seen in individuals with eating disorders,” she explained.

This restrictive approach often results in insufficient intake of essential nutrients, leading to problems like weakened immunity, hair loss, and general fatigue. Social isolation is another serious consequence, as those with orthorexia may skip family meals and special occasions to maintain their strict dietary codes. Such behavior can contribute to loneliness and exacerbate underlying mental health issues.

The Psychological Toll of Dietary Obsession

The survey revealed that 90 percent of participating models aspired to consume only “clean” or “healthy” foods—a mindset reminiscent of the pursuit of thinness that dominated previous decades. However, the danger lies in prioritizing perceived food quality over actual nutritional adequacy. In severe cases, orthorexia can become a gateway to other eating disorders such as anorexia or bulimia, as the lines between healthy habits and harmful obsession blur.

Dr Bogar warns that labeling foods as strictly “good” or “bad” can turn eating into a form of self-punishment. Individuals who break their rules may experience significant guilt and anxiety, undermining their overall well-being. “Food should not be rigidly classified, and eating must not become a form of self-punishment,” she emphasized.

Promoting a Balanced, Flexible Approach to Nutrition

Experts involved in the study are urging the public to reconsider extreme dietary regimes and focus on long-term balance rather than short-term perfection. Dr Bogar recommends that people allow themselves to enjoy treats, such as chocolate or sweets on special occasions, without guilt or self-reproach. The key, she says, is variety and moderation, not relentless restriction.

As the drive for healthy living continues to gain steam worldwide, the researchers’ findings serve as a timely reminder: striving for optimal health should never come at the expense of mental stability, social connection, or basic nutritional needs. Adopting a flexible, inclusive approach to food is essential to safeguarding both physical and psychological health.

Pakistan Gets Relief in New Tariff Imposed by US

Sweeping Tariff Hikes Announced by White House

In a dramatic escalation of global trade tensions, the United States has imposed import tariffs on 69 countries after the expiration of multiple trade agreement deadlines. The new tariffs, effective immediately, were announced by the White House as President Donald Trump signed an executive order to formalize the sweeping policy shift. This move marks one of the most extensive tariff implementations in recent US history, aiming to protect American industries and address ongoing trade imbalances.

Breakdown of the Revised Tariff Structure

The revised tariff rates vary from country to country, reflecting the complexities of US trade relationships. Bangladesh is now subject to a 20 percent tariff on exports to the US, while Türkiye faces a 15 percent rate. In a significant escalation, Canada saw its tariff increase from 25 percent to 35 percent, signaling rising friction even with long-standing allies. The tariff on India, imposed just a day earlier, stands at 25 percent.

The highest tariffs under the new regime target Brazil and Switzerland, with rates set at 50 percent and 39 percent respectively. The White House directive makes it clear that countries unable to finalize trade deals within the next week could face further hikes. Pakistan, which was initially facing a 29 percent tariff, successfully negotiated a last-minute agreement to reduce its rate to 19 percent.

Geopolitical Undercurrents: Focus on India and BRICS

While many of the tariffs are rooted in economic disputes, senior American officials have highlighted that the rift with India is as much geopolitical as it is commercial. The US is closely watching India’s active participation in the BRICS alliance and its strengthening ties with Russia—positions that diverge from Washington’s strategic interests. Officials stated that such intricate differences extend far beyond trade, and quick resolutions remain unlikely.

This geopolitical dimension has placed India under heightened scrutiny. The 25 percent tariff imposed on Indian goods is viewed not just as a response to trade imbalances but as a signal of American discontent with India’s foreign policy direction. The US has made clear, however, that negotiations remain open, though the resolution of such complex disputes will take time.

Mixed Outcomes for US Partners and Trading Nations

Canada, often seen as one of America’s closest economic partners, has been hit particularly hard by the new tariffs. The increase to a 35 percent tariff level raises concerns about the future of North American trade relations. Meanwhile, Bangladesh and Türkiye, both on the revised list, now confront double-digit tariffs that could impact their export-driven industries.

Pakistan’s case stands out amid the tariff storm. Having faced a potential 29 percent rate, Islamabad’s trade delegation managed to secure a reduction to 19 percent at the eleventh hour through intense negotiations. This development signals that while the US is willing to be tough, it remains open to compromise with partners willing to engage constructively.

Uncertainty Lingers Over Tariffs on China

China’s position in this sweeping tariff move remains undecided. Negotiations with Beijing are ongoing, and the White House has yet to announce a final tariff rate for Chinese imports. The uncertainty reflects the complexity of the US-China economic relationship, which has long been characterized by both competition and interdependence.

Senior American officials indicate that the outcome of these talks could have significant repercussions for the global trading system, given China’s central role in international commerce.

Seven-Day Window for Further Negotiations

Countries not included in the limited number of last-minute deals have been given a seven-day deadline to negotiate new terms with Washington. Failure to do so may see even higher tariffs imposed, further straining global supply chains and economic growth prospects.

As the world digests the ramifications of the US’s wide-ranging tariff decision, the global trading landscape faces a period of disruption and adjustment.

Pakistan vs West Indies T20I: Pakistan Clinches 14-Run Victory in Thrilling First T20I

Saim Ayub and Mohammad Nawaz Shine at Central Broward Regional Park

Pakistan made a confident start to their three-match T20I series against the West Indies, securing a thrilling 14-run victory at the Central Broward Regional Park. The win gave Pakistan a 1-0 lead in the series and was highlighted by standout, all-round performances from Saim Ayub and Mohammad Nawaz, who made significant impacts with both bat and ball.

Saim Ayub Anchors Pakistan’s Competitive Total

Opting to bat first, Pakistan looked to set a challenging target on a pitch that offered assistance to both batters and bowlers. Despite the early loss of an opener, the innings was stabilized and then accelerated by Saim Ayub. Opening the batting, Ayub crafted a fluent 57 off just 38 balls, marking his second T20I half-century. His innings included five boundaries and two impressive sixes, epitomizing control and aggression.

Ayub’s 81-run partnership with Fakhar Zaman set the platform for Pakistan. Zaman contributed with a steady 28 off 24 balls, rotating the strike and allowing Ayub to play more freely. However, after their departures, Pakistan briefly lost momentum in the middle overs.

The middle and lower order, however, stepped up to ensure a strong finish. Hassan Nawaz provided a timely 24 off 18 balls, while Faheem Ashraf’s brisk 16 off 9 deliveries pushed the total forward. Skipper Salman Ali Agha added a quick 11 not out off seven balls, guiding Pakistan to a competitive 178-6 at the end of their 20 overs.

For West Indies, Shamar Joseph was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3-30 and providing crucial breakthroughs when Pakistan looked set for an even bigger score.

West Indies’ Chase Falters Amid Pakistani Bowling Brilliance

Chasing 179 for victory, the West Indies got off to a measured start. Johnson Charles and Jewel Andrew built a solid 72-run stand for the first wicket, providing hope to the visiting fans. Both batsmen reached 35, balancing caution with calculated aggression. However, their conservative approach began to backfire as the required run rate climbed steadily.

The turning point in the match arrived during the 12th over, bowled by Mohammad Nawaz. In a dramatic sequence, Nawaz struck thrice, removing Andrew, Charles, and Motie in a single over. His figures of 3-23 not only halted the West Indies’ momentum but also put Pakistan firmly in control.

Saim Ayub’s All-Round Excellence

Already the standout batsman, Saim Ayub further demonstrated his value with the ball. He dismissed West Indies captain Shai Hope for just 2 runs and followed it up by sending Sherfane Rutherford back for 13. Ayub’s spell of 2-20 kept the pressure on the Caribbean side and effectively sealed the fate of the chase.

Further contributions from Shaheen Afridi and Sufiyan Muqeem, each taking a wicket, ensured West Indies found it difficult to keep up with the rising required run rate. By the 18th over, the hosts were reeling at 114-7, needing 65 runs off the final 18 balls—a near-impossible task.

Late West Indies Resistance Falls Short

Despite being down and out, West Indies showed fight through Jason Holder and Shamar Joseph, who launched a spirited assault in the death overs. Holder smashed an unbeaten 30 off just 12 balls, while Joseph contributed 21 not out from as many deliveries, threatening a late heist. However, Pakistan’s bowlers held their nerves, and West Indies ultimately finished on 164-7, falling 14 runs short of the target.

Pakistan’s confident display, driven by Saim Ayub’s all-round performance and Nawaz’s decisive spell, gives them early momentum in the series. All eyes now turn to the second T20I, where the West Indies will look to bounce back.

Fahad Mustafa Faces Backlash Over Allegations of Public Humiliation

Serious Allegations Surface Against Popular TV Host

Fahad Mustafa, one of Pakistan’s most well-known television hosts, is facing widespread criticism following serious allegations made by Omar Saeed, a former photographer on a popular TV programme. The controversy erupted after Omar took to social media to share a video clip and an emotional account detailing his alleged mistreatment by Mustafa, who is best known for hosting the hit show “Jeeto Pakistan.”

Omar Saeed’s Account: Claims of Humiliation and Job Loss

In his recent social media post, Omar Saeed described an incident that he claims occurred two years ago but has continued to impact him profoundly. “Today, I came across this video in my gallery, and with a heavy heart, I’m sharing it after two years,” Omar wrote. According to his statement, the footage captures moments where Fahad Mustafa repeatedly insulted and discriminated against him in front of colleagues. Omar alleges that the experience not only shattered his confidence but also led to his dismissal from the show.

The video has since gone viral, drawing widespread attention and igniting heated debates across various social media platforms. Many viewers have come forward to express their support for Omar, commending his courage for speaking out after years of silence.

Public Reaction: Mixed Opinions and Renewed Scrutiny

Omar’s revelations have prompted a fresh wave of scrutiny regarding Fahad Mustafa’s conduct, both on and off screen. While Fahad is renowned for his energetic and playful hosting style, some critics now argue that his approach often crosses the line into disrespect. One social media user commented, “The way he insults people on Jeeto Pakistan reflects his true character.”

Other viewers have also resurfaced previous incidents from “Jeeto Pakistan,” referencing moments when Mustafa’s interactions were considered inappropriate or hurtful. These include a widely circulated clip of Fahad mocking a child’s drawing during a live broadcast, which has further fueled the debate.

Calls for Respect and Professional Decency

In his heartfelt post, Omar Saeed emphasized the importance of basic human decency in all professional environments. “Treat others the way you want to be treated. #RespectIsEverything,” he wrote, encouraging a cultural shift towards greater empathy and respect in the workplace.

Despite the emotional toll of his experience, Omar shared that he has found a new path and launched his own business. However, he maintains that the public humiliation he faced led directly to the loss of his job and significant damage to his career.

Audience Split: Support and Calls for Caution

While there is a groundswell of support for Omar, with many lauding his bravery and calling for accountability, some in the audience have urged the public to refrain from passing judgment until Fahad Mustafa has had the opportunity to respond to the allegations. They argue that a balanced perspective is necessary, given Fahad’s long-standing popularity and the lack of an official statement from his side.

As of now, Fahad Mustafa has not issued an official response addressing the incident or the accusations leveled against him. The silence has only added to the speculation, with fans and critics alike awaiting his side of the story.

Behavior on Screen Under the Microscope

The controversy has also sparked broader debates about the responsibilities of television hosts and the impact of their on-screen behavior. Fahad Mustafa’s signature style involves high energy and playful banter with guests and participants, but recent events have prompted a reevaluation of where entertainment ends and disrespect begins.

The incident serves as a reminder of the power dynamics present in the entertainment industry and the potential consequences of unchecked behavior. As the conversation unfolds online, many are calling for greater professionalism and respect within the world of television and beyond.

United States to Deny Visas to Palestinian Authority Officials as Support Grows for Recognising Palestinian State

In a bold escalation of diplomatic pressure, the United States announced it will deny visas to Palestinian Authority officials, a move signaling growing frustration in Washington as international momentum builds toward recognising Palestinian state.

This visa ban emerges just as allies like France, Canada, and Saudi Arabia publicly back statehood for Palestine, fueling tensions with Israel and its top ally, the U.S. While those countries prepare to push recognition at the UN General Assembly this September, Washington is drawing a red line by restricting Palestinian access to international forums, particularly diplomatic events like the upcoming summit.

Although the State Department didn’t name specific individuals, it stated the decision targets officials from the Palestinian Authority and members of the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO), accusing them of pursuing international legal action against Israel through the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the International Court of Justice (ICJ). Washington has dismissed these efforts as provocative and politically motivated.

Global Sympathy vs American Retaliation

This week’s UN conference on Middle East peace, spearheaded by France and Saudi Arabia, reignited calls for the two-state solution. But the U.S. refused to attend, calling the event “an insult” to victims of the October 7 Hamas attack, and reiterating its opposition to any unilateral recognition of Palestinian statehood.

While many see growing global advocacy for Palestine as a moral and diplomatic necessity, the U.S. continues to frame it as a security and legal issue, accusing Palestinian leadership of incitement, glorifying violence, and compensating families of those involved in terrorism.

Notably, this visa ban comes weeks after the U.S. imposed sanctions on four ICC judges involved in issuing arrest warrants for Israeli leaders, deepening the divide between Washington and much of the global south on Gaza.

The U.S. decision to deny visas to Palestinian Authority officials could seriously impact Palestine’s participation in high-level diplomatic engagements, including the General Assembly. It may also serve as a warning to countries considering formal recognition, effectively turning a diplomatic issue into a geopolitical standoff.

Despite this, Palestinian leaders remain defiant, with President Mahmoud Abbas continuing to push for recognition, while Western nations increasingly acknowledge the two-state solution as the only viable path to lasting peace.

Latest Petrol Price in Pakistan Drops – Here’s What You’re Paying from August 1

In a welcome turn of events, the federal government has announced a significant reduction in fuel prices, reversing the trend of recent hikes. The latest petrol price has been slashed by Rs7.54 per litre, bringing much-needed relief to consumers across the country. The new rate, effective from August 1, now stands at Rs264.61 per litre, compared to the previous Rs272.15. This change in the latest petrol price comes after a fortnightly review conducted by the government, reflecting shifts in international oil markets and currency trends.

The announcement was made late Thursday night via a notification from the Finance Division. While petrol users have a reason to celebrate, the picture isn’t as bright for those relying on high-speed diesel (HSD), which has seen an increase of Rs1.48 per litre. The revised HSD rate now stands at Rs285.83 per litre.

Amid Latest Petrol Price Drop, LPG Price Also Sees Major Drop

In another consumer-friendly move, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has announced a sharp reduction in Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) prices. The per kilogram price has been reduced by Rs17.74, bringing the new rate to Rs215.36. This translates to a Rs209.24 decrease in the price of an 11.8kg domestic LPG cylinder, which will now cost Rs2,541.36 for the month of August.

OGRA highlighted that the latest adjustment is aligned with market trends and was finalized after input from relevant ministries. The price cut in LPG is expected to ease household burdens, especially in areas where LPG is a primary source of energy.

The government reviews fuel prices every 15 days, with adjustments based on international oil rates and the rupee’s performance. In the previous revision, both petrol and diesel prices had gone up, further burdening commuters and the transport sectors. The latest petrol price cut breaks this cycle and is likely to have a positive short-term impact on inflation and transportation costs.

Landmark US-Pakistan Trade Agreement Hailed by PM Shehbaz Sharif

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has extended his “profound thanks” to former US President Donald Trump for his pivotal role in finalizing a landmark trade agreement between Pakistan and the United States. This agreement, described by Sharif as a “historic” moment, marks a significant milestone in the bilateral relationship between the two nations.

Strengthening Bilateral Ties

Taking to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Prime Minister Sharif expressed his gratitude, highlighting the deepening cooperation between Pakistan and the United States. “I wish to convey my profound thanks to President Trump for his leadership role in the finalization of the historic US-Pakistan trade agreement,” Sharif wrote. The deal, concluded in Washington, is expected to expand the enduring partnership between the two countries.

Details of the Trade Agreement

The agreement, which was announced by Donald Trump on Truth Social, includes crucial elements such as tariff reductions and enhanced market access for Pakistani goods. One of the most significant aspects of the deal is the framework for joint exploration of oil reserves in Pakistan. Trump emphasized the strategic nature of this partnership, stating, “We have finalized a big trade deal with Pakistan. We will explore oil reserves together with Pakistan.”

The trade agreement was signed following a high-level meeting in Washington, attended by Pakistan’s Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, and US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer. This collaboration signals a new era of economic cooperation between the two nations, with potential benefits across various sectors.

Economic Opportunities and Sectoral Growth

According to Pakistan’s Ministry of Finance, the trade deal aims to foster economic cooperation in sectors such as energy, information technology, minerals, and cryptocurrency. Officials are optimistic that the agreement will open up new export channels for Pakistan, buoyed by greater tariff parity and investment opportunities.

A central feature of the pact is the joint development of Pakistan’s oil reserves. Donald Trump indicated that the US is in the process of selecting an international oil company to spearhead the exploration project. This initiative promises full transparency and mutual trust, which are key to the success of such bilateral ventures.

A Strategic Partnership with Long-term Potential

This development in US-Pakistan relations comes amid Trump’s broader aggressive trade policy shifts with other countries. The former US president announced a 25% tariff on imports from India starting August 1, alongside a deadline of August 12 for a potential trade deal with China. These moves highlight the strategic recalibrations in global trade under Trump’s influence, positioning Pakistan as a crucial partner for the United States.

Impact on Pakistan’s Economy

The landmark trade agreement with the United States is anticipated to significantly impact Pakistan’s economy. By providing improved market access and facilitating joint ventures, the deal is expected to stimulate growth in key sectors, attract foreign investment, and create job opportunities. The collaboration in oil exploration, in particular, holds the promise of boosting Pakistan’s energy sector and contributing to economic stability.

The new trade agreement underscores the growing importance of US-Pakistan relations in the global economic landscape. As both nations work towards implementing the terms of the deal, the focus remains on fostering a partnership that is mutually beneficial and strategically advantageous.

He stated, “This revision is a considerable step toward protecting workers’ rights and providing a decent living.” The government continues to collaborate with industrial stakeholders, aiming to foster fairness and compliance across all sectors.

Protecting Workers’ Rights

To prevent unfair labor practices and ensure transparency, the notification mandates the use of recognized payment systems, such as bank transfers or cross-cheques, for wage disbursement. This measure is designed to provide workers with a secure and reliable way to receive their salaries, further enhancing the protection of their rights.

The revision of the Sindh minimum wage structure underscores the province’s commitment to supporting the interests and rights of workers. It reflects a proactive approach to reducing economic inequality and promoting social justice by guaranteeing a minimum level of income for all categories of workers.

The board submitted a recommendation to the provincial government, advocating for an 8.1% increase in the minimum monthly salary from Rs. 37,000 to Rs. 40,000. This proposal aimed to address the economic pressures faced by workers and ensure that the minimum wage keeps pace with rising living costs.

Revised Minimum Wage Structure The wage increase encompasses unskilled adults, adolescents, and workers across semi-skilled, skilled, and highly skilled categories. By implementing these changes, the Sindh government is taking a decisive step towards enhancing the economic well-being of its workforce and ensuring that all workers receive fair and adequate compensation for their contributions.

Canada to Recognize Palestinian State at UN in September

OTTAWA, Canada—In a significant policy shift that has sparked international attention and controversy, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced that Canada plans to recognize a Palestinian state at the United Nations General Assembly in September 2025. This decision, which aligns Canada with France and the United Kingdom, aims to bolster the prospects of a two-state solution to the long-standing Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The Call for a Two-State Solution

Prime Minister Carney emphasized the necessity of this move to preserve the hopes of achieving a two-state solution, a goal that has been central to Canada’s foreign policy for decades. “The two-state solution is being eroded before our eyes,” Carney stated, highlighting the urgency of international efforts to support peace in the Middle East. According to Carney, recognizing Palestine is a step towards addressing the suffering of civilians in Gaza and ensuring a viable path to peace in the region.

International Reactions and Criticism

Israel has criticized Canada’s announcement as part of a “distorted campaign of international pressure.” The Israeli embassy in Ottawa expressed its disapproval, arguing that recognizing a Palestinian state without ensuring accountable governance and functional institutions could inadvertently legitimize groups like Hamas. Nevertheless, Carney affirmed Canada’s position, noting that any change in this stance is conceivable, albeit unlikely.

Preconditions for Recognition

The Canadian government’s intention to recognize Palestine is contingent upon the Palestinian Authority’s commitment to implementing critical reforms. Carney underscored the importance of President Mahmoud Abbas’s pledge to hold general elections in 2026 from which Hamas would be excluded, and to demilitarize the future Palestinian state. These conditions are seen as essential to fostering a stable and peaceful environment conducive to a two-state solution.

Aligning with International Allies

With this announcement, Canada joins France and the United Kingdom in a coordinated effort to recognize Palestinian statehood. French President Emmanuel Macron has committed to formal recognition at the UN meeting, making France the most powerful European nation to take such a stance. The UK, under Prime Minister Keir Starmer, has also indicated its intention to recognize Palestine, provided Israel does not undertake substantial peace-promoting actions.

The Role of the Palestinian Authority

The Palestinian Authority, led by President Abbas, has welcomed Canada’s decision as a “historic” development. This move signals international acknowledgment of Palestinian aspirations for sovereignty and statehood. The collaboration between Canada and France to revive peace prospects in the region further underscores the international community’s commitment to resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict through diplomatic means.

Challenges to the Peace Process

Carney pointed out that the expansion of Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank and east Jerusalem has been a significant impediment to the peace process. The possibility of Israel annexing the West Bank, along with its failure to address humanitarian concerns in Gaza, has only widened the gap between the two nations. Carney’s decision is framed as an effort to safeguard Israel’s future security while ensuring the establishment of a stable Palestinian state.

Towards a Lasting Peace

Prime Minister Carney‘s announcement serves as a clarion call for renewed international efforts to achieve a lasting peace between Israel and Palestine. He emphasized that a sustainable peace for Israel requires the establishment of a viable Palestinian state that acknowledges Israel’s right to security and peace. By taking this bold diplomatic step, Canada is positioning itself as a proactive player in the quest for peace in the Middle East.

Florian Wirtz Nets First Goal for Liverpool in Friendly Win Over Yokohama F. Marinos

Liverpool’s pre-season tour in Japan saw a promising display of attacking talent, as the Reds defeated Yokohama F. Marinos 3-1 on Wednesday. The highlight of the night was Florian Wirtz scoring his first goal for the club, marking a strong start to his Liverpool journey.

Over 65,000 fans watched as the German international equalised with a sharp right-foot finish inside the box, after Asahi Uenaka had given Yokohama the lead in the 55th minute. Wirtz, who joined Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen in a high-profile transfer, expressed his excitement, stating, “I am really happy that I could score my first goal. I hope there are more to come.”

New Faces Impress in Japan

The match also featured the debut of Hugo Ekitike, Liverpool’s recent signing from Eintracht Frankfurt. The French forward joined the Premier League champions in a £69 million deal, and although he didn’t score, he showed flashes of his potential.

Teenagers Trey Nyoni and Rio Ngumoha added to the scoreline with well-taken goals, securing the comeback victory. Nyoni connected with a cross from Jeremie Frimpong, while Ngumoha carried the ball from the halfway line before finishing with precision from outside the area.

Arne Slot’s Mixed Feelings

Liverpool manager Arne Slot praised the result but acknowledged areas for improvement. “It could be with a tough training camp and it could be with the heat circumstances. But that’s something we definitely have to improve,” said the Dutch coach.

The match was played under emotional circumstances, following a tribute to Diogo Jota, who tragically passed away in a car accident earlier this month.

Goalkeeper Alisson Becker was absent, having returned to Brazil for personal reasons, as confirmed by the club.

Meanwhile, Liverpool also announced the transfer of Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich, signaling more shifts in the squad ahead of the new season.

Lionel Messi Inspires Inter Miami to Victory Over Atlas in Leagues Cup Thriller

Lionel Messi once again proved to be the difference-maker as Inter Miami secured a dramatic 2-1 win over Atlas FC in their Leagues Cup group-stage opener on Wednesday night in Fort Lauderdale.

Messi’s Creative Brilliance Decides the Match

The Argentine legend provided assists on both goals, including a last-minute winner in second-half stoppage time. As the clock ticked past 90 minutes, Messi calmly squared a low ball across the 6-yard box to teammate Marcelo Weigandt, who tapped in the decisive goal.

It was another moment of magic from Messi, whose vision and timing continue to elevate Inter Miami on the North American stage.

Atlas Battles Back but Falls Short

Despite Inter Miami’s dominance for much of the match, Atlas equalized in the 80th minute through Jose Lozano. After a scramble in front of Miami’s goal, Lozano fired in a close-range left-footed shot to give the visitors hope of salvaging a draw.

However, Messi had the final say.

Segovia Scores Opener as Messi Orchestrates the Attack

Earlier in the second half, Telasco Segovia opened the scoring for Inter Miami in the 57th minute. The goal followed a pattern nearly identical to the winner. Sergio Busquets found Messi with a precise pass into the box. Messi then rolled the ball across goal, allowing Segovia to slot it into an open net despite a slight misstep.

The victory gives Inter Miami an ideal start in the Leagues Cup, with Messi’s leadership once again proving invaluable.

Enola Holmes 3: Netflix Sequel Brings High Stakes, New Faces, and a Darker Mystery

Netflix is officially bringing back the beloved teen detective for another thrilling adventure in Enola Holmes 3, with Millie Bobby Brown reprising her role as the sharp and spirited sleuth. The third film promises a bold step forward for the franchise, offering more emotional depth, new characters, and an international setting that elevates the stakes for Enola like never before.

Release Date and Production Timeline

Enola Holmes 3 is currently in post-production, with Netflix confirming the film’s release window sometime in 2026. Filming took place between April and June 2025 across scenic locations in Malta—specifically Valletta and Mdina—and at Shepperton Studios in the UK.

While Netflix has yet to confirm the exact premiere date, the streaming giant’s typical release cadence suggests a debut in the second or third quarter of 2026.

Returning Cast and Exciting New Additions

Millie Bobby Brown not only returns in the title role but also continues as a producer, reinforcing her deep involvement in the creative direction of the series. She is joined once again by:

  • Henry Cavill as Sherlock Holmes
  • Helena Bonham Carter as Eudoria Holmes
  • Louis Partridge as Lord Tewkesbury

New additions to the cast include:

  • Himesh Patel as Dr. Watson
  • Sharon Duncan-Brewster as the formidable Moriarty

These new characters hint at stronger ties to the traditional Sherlock Holmes universe, while expanding Enola’s world and the complexity of her challenges.

A Darker Tone with Global Stakes

Directed by Philip Barantini and written by Jack Thorne, the third installment is expected to be more mature and emotionally layered. The story takes Enola far from London, immersing her in a mysterious case in Malta, where personal and political intrigue collide.

This darker narrative tone will likely appeal to both returning fans and a broader audience interested in more intense and character-driven storytelling.

Netflix’s decision to greenlight the third film, announced in late 2024, solidified Enola Holmes as one of the platform’s most successful young adult franchises.

Leon Marchand Breaks World Record as US and Australia Dominate World Swimming Championships

French swimmer Leon Marchand delivered a historic performance at the World Swimming Championships in Singapore by smashing the 200m individual medley world record on Wednesday. His time of 1:52.69 in the semi-finals broke the previous record of 1:54.00, held by American legend Ryan Lochte since 2011.

Marchand, who stunned the world in 2023 by breaking Michael Phelps’s 400m medley record, has once again underlined his status as one of the top swimmers of his generation. Speaking after the race, the 23-year-old said, “Actually I can’t believe it right now… but 1:52 is unbelievable for me.”

This race marks his return to elite competition after taking an extended post-Olympics break following four gold medal wins at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Tunisia and Australia Add to the Medal Rush

In the 800m freestyle final, Ahmed Jaouadi of Tunisia produced a well-timed surge midway through the race to clinch gold with a time of 7:36.88, beating Germany’s Sven Schwarz and Lukas Maertens. Jaouadi’s performance now ranks among the top three fastest times ever in this event.

Australia’s Mollie O’Callaghan dominated the women’s 200m freestyle, clocking in at 1:53.48. The 21-year-old, who has battled injuries and post-Olympic pressure, expressed gratitude to her support system. China’s Li Bingjie and the USA’s Claire Weinstein rounded out the podium.

The United States celebrated victory in the men’s 200m butterfly, with Luca Urlando capturing the biggest title of his career. Italy’s Simone Cerasuolo narrowly defeated Russia’s Kirill Prigoda in the 50m breaststroke final.

Russia’s Neutral Team and the Rising Stars

In a unique highlight, the “neutral athletes” team—comprised of Russian swimmers—won the mixed 4x100m medley relay, outperforming both China and Canada. The result added further intrigue to an already dynamic championship.

As the competition heads into its fifth day, Australia leads the medal standings with four golds, followed by the USA with three, and Germany and Canada with two each.

All eyes now turn to Canada’s Summer McIntosh, who will aim for a third gold medal in the 200m butterfly final on Thursday. The race also features Yu Zidi, a 12-year-old Chinese schoolgirl, who could become the youngest medalist at the event.

Annie Khalid Opens Up About Daughter’s Critical Health Crisis

Pakistani pop singer Annie Khalid, widely known for her hit single Mahiya, has revealed the deeply emotional reason behind her prolonged absence from the public eye — her daughter’s life-threatening medical emergency.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Annie shared that her seven-year-old daughter, Isha, suffered two cardiac arrests within eight hours earlier this year, leading to severe organ failure and paralysis. The incident took place on January 23, 2024, a date the singer described as “etched into [her] soul forever.”

A Life-Altering Ordeal

According to Annie, Isha’s sudden collapse was caused by arrhythmia and hypoxia, which resulted in 45 minutes of oxygen deprivation, leading to multi-organ failure. The little girl, who had previously been completely healthy, was left unresponsive and had to be placed on life support, including a heart-lung bypass machine and dialysis for her kidneys.

Annie emotionally recalled the devastating moment doctors informed the family that her daughter’s life was in critical danger. “She wasn’t responding. Her body was tired. We were told… it was time to put her on life support,” she wrote.

Faith Amidst the Darkness

Despite the grim prognosis — which included brain damage, paralysis, and a diagnosis of peripheral neuropathy — Annie and her family clung to faith. “When medicine had no more answers… Allah did,” she said, expressing her gratitude for the miracle of Isha’s survival.

Doctors, stunned by Isha’s recovery, still cannot medically explain how she pulled through. But for Annie, the answer lies in divine mercy: “Because where logic ends, divine mercy begins.”

A Journey of Strength and Hope

Now in recovery, Isha is smiling, laughing, and healing, though still reliant on a wheelchair. Annie remains hopeful and firm in her belief that her daughter will walk again, “Insha’Allah, with every beat of my heart.”

The singer concluded her message with a powerful reminder of motherhood’s resilience. “People ask, ‘Annie, where have you been?’ I’ve been here, being a mother to the most courageous, resilient, and beautiful girl I’ve ever known.”

She urged her followers to continue sending prayers for Isha’s recovery, acknowledging that this battle, while painful, has been a testimony to faith, hope, and love.

Swiatek Dominates, Osaka Shows Grit at Canadian Open in Montrea

The WTA Canadian Open in Montreal brought contrasting victories for two of tennis’s biggest names on Wednesday. Iga Swiatek, the reigning Wimbledon champion, displayed sheer dominance, while Naomi Osaka delivered a dramatic comeback to keep her tournament hopes alive.

Swiatek’s Smooth Progression

Playing her first match since lifting the Wimbledon title, Swiatek cruised past Chinese qualifier Guo Hanyu with a clinical 6-3, 6-1 win. The Polish star broke serve six times, showing no signs of rust and continuing the form that earned her a second Grand Slam title this season.

Her comfortable win underlined her status as one of the favorites for the Canadian Open crown.

Osaka Fights Back from the Brink

Earlier in the day, Naomi Osaka overcame Liudmila Samsonova in a gritty three-set battle, saving two match points and recovering from a set down to win 4-6, 7-6 (8/6), 6-3. It was a significant victory for Osaka, marking her first win over a top-20 opponent since January.

Osaka, now working with coach Tomasz Wiktorowski after parting ways with Patrick Mouratoglou, dug deep after trailing 5-2 in the second-set tiebreaker. Samsonova had the match on her racquet at 5-4 in the second set but faltered with a forehand error and a misjudged drop shot.

Capitalizing on her opponent’s mistakes, Osaka broke twice in the final set to take a commanding 4-1 lead and ultimately sealed the win.

“I was overwhelmed at first,” Osaka admitted post-match. “But eventually, I focused on keeping the ball in play.”

The Japanese star, who ended a four-match losing streak in three-set encounters, now faces Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko in the next round.

Other Notable Matches

Elsewhere, Madison Keys, the sixth seed and Australian Open champion, breezed past Laura Siegemund 6-2, 6-1. The victory served as revenge for Keys, who was eliminated by Siegemund in the third round at Wimbledon.

Kim Le Court Makes History as First African to Win a Stage at Women’s Tour de France

Mauritian cyclist Kim Le Court made headlines on Wednesday as she became the first African rider to win a stage at the Women’s Tour de France, marking a historic milestone for African cycling on the global stage.

Le Court claimed victory on Stage 5, the longest leg of the competition, covering a challenging 166 km route from Chasseneuil-du-Poitou Futuroscope to Gueret. She triumphed in a high-intensity sprint, narrowly edging out Dutch rivals Demi Vollering and Anna van der Breggen.

Double Triumph for the 29-Year-Old Rider

The stage win also propelled Kim Le Court back into the yellow jersey, reclaiming her spot at the top of the general classification standings. She now leads French cyclist Pauline Ferrand-Prevot by 18 seconds.

Le Court had briefly worn the yellow jersey after Stage 2 but had relinquished it until her remarkable comeback in Stage 5. Overnight leader Marianne Vos lost her lead after finishing eighth in the stage, trailing by 33 seconds.

Speaking after the stage, Le Court described the experience as a dream. “It’s really been a dream start to the Tour. The stage win, the yellow jersey — I wasn’t even thinking about it when we started in Brittany.”

Competition Heats Up Ahead of the Mountain Stages

With her current position as overall leader, Le Court now faces the unknown as she heads into the mountainous segments of the race. “I don’t know my limits in the mountains. This is my first major stage race where I’m competing for overall classification,” she added.

Demi Vollering, the defending champion from 2023, sits in third place overall, 23 seconds behind, after recovering from a fall earlier in the week. Katarzyna Niewiadoma, last year’s winner, finished fourth in the stage and trails the leader by 24 seconds.

Stage 6 promises to test the contenders with a 123.7 km mountainous ride from Clermont-Ferrand to Ambert, including three major ascents and a category one climb up Col du Beal.

As the race moves into more demanding terrain, all eyes will be on Kim Le Court to see whether she can maintain her lead and create further history.
