Ali Ilyas Jawaid was the hero of the day. He won gold in the Men’s Master Open (35-39 years) for the Individual Time Trial (ITT) after finishing the 21.4km distance in 26 minutes and 30.556 seconds at an average speed of 48.44km/h. Jawaid’s excellent timing left him more than a minute ahead of Thailand’s Narongdat Sangchai, who took silver. Jawaid also won a silver medal in the very competitive Road Race (IRR) category.
Rabia Gharib also impressed with her double-medal effort, winning gold in the IRR and silver in the ITT. Zainab Rizwan, another prominent Pakistani cyclist, contributed two bronze medals to the country’s medal count. Her medal in the 40-44 age category was especially impressive as she finished the race in 1 hour, 15 minutes, and 13 seconds.
Pakistan Cycling Federation (PCF) President Syed Azhar Ali Shah praised the cyclists for their record-breaking feat. “This achievement is a matter of great pride for the entire Pakistani cycling community. Ali Ilyas Jawaid’s stellar performance reflects the increasing promise of Pakistani sportspersons in global cycling,” Shah stated. He also reiterated the commitment of the PCF in promoting and developing talent at an international level.
With this exceptional performance, Pakistan’s cycling squad has established itself as a power to be reckoned with in Asian cycling. The championship not only earned medals but also placed the focus on the will and ability of Pakistani cyclists to play at the world’s top levels.
