The world has lost a towering figure—both literally and figuratively. Pakistan’s tallest man Naseer Soomro, standing at an astounding 7 feet 9 inches, passed away on Monday in his hometown of Shikarpur after battling a prolonged illness. He was 55.

Soomro, who had been suffering from a chronic lung disease for several months, had been in and out of hospitals due to severe breathing difficulties. His brother, Riaz Soomro, confirmed that he had been receiving treatment at home in recent weeks. Despite brief periods of recovery, his health continued to decline, marking the end of an extraordinary life that brought global attention to Pakistan.

Pakistan’s tallest man also earned global recognition

Born in Shikarpur, Soomro’s remarkable height earned him national and international fame. His stature not only made him a beloved figure but also opened doors to unique opportunities, including a job with Pakistan International Airlines (PIA). For years, he served as a symbol of pride for the country, showcasing Pakistan on the global stage.

Soomro’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of many. He was preceded by Alam Channa, another towering figure, and followed by Zia Rashid from Multan, who now holds the title of Pakistan’s tallest man at 8 feet.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah expressed his condolences, saying, “I offer my heartfelt sympathies to Naseer Soomro’s family. May he rest in peace, and may his loved ones find strength during this difficult time.”

Soomro’s life was not without challenges. His extraordinary height brought with it health complications, including joint pain and respiratory issues. Yet, he remained a resilient and inspiring figure, admired by many for his grace and humility.

His funeral prayers will be held in Shikarpur on Tuesday morning, where friends, family, and admirers will gather to bid farewell to a man who stood tall—not just in height, but in spirit.
