Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has introduced a comprehensive financial aid package for journalists, reinforcing the government’s commitment to media welfare. This initiative, announced during the Peshawar Press Club (PPC) oath-taking ceremony, includes a Rs. 50 million grant and a significant boost to the Journalists’ Welfare Endowment Fund.

Key Announcements for Journalists

During the event at CM House, the Chief Minister unveiled several initiatives aimed at improving the financial security and working conditions of journalists in the province:

  • Rs. 50 million one-time grant for the Peshawar Press Club in the current fiscal year.
  • Increase in the Journalists’ Welfare Endowment Fund from Rs. 128 million to Rs. 200 million.
  • Doubling of scholarships for the children of deserving journalists.
  • Issuance of allotment letters for journalists’ plots in New Peshawar Valley in the near future.
  • Provision of solar energy systems for journalists through a balloting system.

The event was attended by prominent figures, including Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif (Advisor to the Chief Minister), PTI Central Secretary Information Sheikh Waqas Akram, and Secretary Information Arshad Khan, alongside a large number of journalists.

Commitment to Press Freedom and Accountability

Congratulating the newly elected PPC President and Cabinet members, Gandapur highlighted the crucial role of journalism in shaping public opinion and strengthening democracy. He urged journalists to uphold truth and integrity, ensuring that credibility remains uncompromised in media reporting.

The Chief Minister also proposed that media houses conduct performance comparisons of different provincial governments. He suggested that annual governance reports be presented through media programs, enhancing public awareness and government accountability.

KP’s Record-Breaking Revenue Growth

Gandapur highlighted KP’s historic 49% increase in provincial revenue, a milestone that has enabled greater financial support for journalists. He emphasized that his administration remains impartial toward media coverage, welcoming both constructive criticism and support.
