Australian Paralympic champion Paige Greco, one of the most celebrated figures in para-cycling, has passed away at the age of 28.

Her family confirmed that the athlete suffered a sudden medical episode at her home in Adelaide, leaving the sporting world in shock and mourning.

Greco rose to global prominence after her exceptional performance at the Tokyo Paralympics in 2021. Competing in the women’s C1-C3 3,000m individual pursuit, she not only secured the gold medal but broke her own world record in a dominant display that captured the attention of fans worldwide. Her victory became a defining highlight of the Games and placed her among Australia’s most influential Paralympic athletes.

She continued her success by adding two bronze medals in the C1–3 road race and time trial, demonstrating her versatility across both track and road events. Her consistent achievements reflected years of dedication, discipline and a deep passion for her sport.

The news of her passing was shared in a heartfelt statement by her mother, Natalie Greco, who described the family’s devastation while expressing pride in Paige’s character and achievements. She said Paige valued the connections she made through cycling and found joy in representing Australia on the world stage.

Throughout her career, Greco earned multiple world championship titles. Most recently, she secured a bronze medal at the 2025 World Championship road race in Belgium, reinforcing her status as a top competitor in international para-cycling.

AusCycling chief executive Marne Fechner also paid tribute, calling Greco an extraordinary athlete who achieved excellence at the highest levels of competition. She highlighted that beyond her medals, Paige was admired for her positive spirit, resilience and the inspiration she provided to athletes and fans around the world.
