National Bank of Pakistan President and Chief Executive Officer Imran Sarwar will receive a gross monthly salary of Rs9.5 million under a compensation package approved by the bank’s shareholders.
That translates to:
Rs114 million per year — Rs11.4 crore — in gross salary alone.
The package also includes a Rs1 million monthly house-rent allowance, performance bonus, two vehicles, security, medical coverage and several other benefits.
NBP shareholders approved the compensation package for the 2026–2029 term at an Extraordinary General Meeting held in Karachi on October 22, 2026. The package is effective from September 9, when Sarwar assumed office.
NBP CEO Monthly and Annual Salary
The approved gross salary is:
Rs9.5 million per month
which equals:
Rs114 million annually
or:
Rs11.4 crore per year
before additional allowances and benefits.
Sarwar will also receive:
Rs1 million per month as house-rent allowance
in place of a concessional staff housing loan.
This takes fixed annual salary plus housing allowance to approximately:
Rs126 million — Rs12.6 crore per year
before bonus and other benefits.
Performance Bonus Also Included
The package includes a variable annual performance bonus linked to key performance indicators.
According to the approved terms, performance will be assessed by the bank’s board.
The separate agenda item for approving the CEO’s 2026 KPIs was withdrawn at the EOGM, while the compensation package itself was approved.
Two Vehicles Included
The NBP CEO is entitled to two vehicles.
One vehicle may have an engine capacity of up to 3,500cc, while the second will come from the bank’s existing vehicle pool.
At the end of the contract, Sarwar may purchase the designated vehicle for 10% of its original cost or written-down value, whichever is higher.
NBP will also provide two drivers or reimburse driver salaries at Rs45,000 per driver per month.
Security and Domestic Staff Benefits
The compensation package also provides residential security.
NBP will arrange:
four security guards working 12-hour shifts
at the CEO’s residence.
The bank will also reimburse up to:
Rs150,000 per month
for five domestic staff members.
Utilities and Communication Expenses
NBP will cover household utility expenses and provide:
- two residential telephone connections; and
- two mobile phones.
The package also includes a residential generator costing up to Rs1.5 million, with its cost amortised over the contract period.
Medical and Life Insurance
The CEO and dependent family members will receive medical and dental coverage in Pakistan at actual cost.
The package also provides:
Rs30 million in life insurance coverage
during the contract period.
Sarwar and NBP will each contribute 50% of the annual insurance premium.
Leave and Gratuity
The approved employment terms include:
30 days annual leave
and
18 days casual and sick leave each year.
Annual leave can accumulate up to 90 days and may be encashed based on the last-drawn gross salary.
NBP will also pay gratuity equivalent to one month of last-drawn gross salary for each completed year of service.
Club Memberships
The compensation package includes entry fees for:
two clubs
and subscription fees for:
three clubs.
These benefits form part of the wider executive compensation structure approved by shareholders.
Who Is Imran Sarwar?
Imran Sarwar was appointed President and CEO of National Bank of Pakistan for a three-year term effective September 3, 2026.
NBP formally welcomed him as President and CEO on September 9. The bank’s current senior-management page lists him as its serving President and Chief Executive Officer.
Before joining NBP, Sarwar served at United Bank Limited as Group Executive for Risk and Credit Policy and Chief Risk Officer.
How Much Is the Total Package Worth?
The exact total annual value cannot be calculated from salary alone because several benefits are variable or paid at actual cost.
However, the fixed figures include:
| Component | Annual Value |
|---|---|
| Gross salary | Rs114 million |
| House-rent allowance | Rs12 million |
| Salary + house rent | Rs126 million |
| Performance bonus | Variable |
| Medical/dental | Actual cost |
| Life insurance | Rs30m cover |
| Domestic staff | Up to Rs1.8m annually |
| Drivers | Up to Rs1.08m annually |
| Other benefits | Variable |
So describing the package simply as an “Rs11 crore salary” understates the wider compensation.
The salary alone is approximately Rs11.4 crore annually, while salary plus housing reaches Rs12.6 crore before bonus and other benefits.
NBP shareholders have approved a substantial compensation package for President and CEO Imran Sarwar covering the 2026–2029 term.
His gross monthly salary is Rs9.5 million, equivalent to Rs11.4 crore per year, while the Rs1 million monthly housing allowance takes fixed annual salary and housing to around Rs12.6 crore.
Performance bonuses, vehicles, security, medical coverage, drivers, domestic staff and other benefits are additional.
