The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has expanded its digital services by introducing vehicle biometric verification through the Pak ID mobile application, making the vehicle transfer process more convenient for buyers and sellers across Pakistan.
The new feature allows eligible users to complete biometric verification directly from their smartphones, reducing the need for in-person visits for this step of the ownership transfer process. The service is currently available for vehicles registered in Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, and Islamabad, although transfer procedures and available digital services may vary depending on the province or territory.
The introduction of biometric verification through the Pak ID app is part of Pakistan’s broader digital transformation initiative aimed at simplifying public services and improving accessibility for citizens. By enabling remote identity verification, the process becomes faster, more secure, and more convenient for vehicle owners.
To use the service, both the buyer and seller must have the Pak ID mobile application installed on their smartphones and possess valid NADRA-issued Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs). The biometric verification feature uses facial recognition and identity authentication technology to verify users before proceeding with the transfer process.
The general process begins by downloading or updating the Pak ID app to the latest version and signing in using your registered account. Users can then navigate to the vehicle biometric verification section, where they will be prompted to provide the required identity information.
The application guides users through the facial verification process using the smartphone’s camera. Once the biometric verification is successfully completed, the digital confirmation can be used as part of the vehicle ownership transfer process with the relevant Excise and Taxation authority.
Although biometric verification can now be completed remotely, users should note that additional documentation and transfer requirements may still apply depending on where the vehicle is registered. Provincial Excise and Taxation departments may have different procedures for submitting transfer applications, paying applicable taxes and fees, or completing ownership registration.
The facility is currently confirmed for vehicles registered in Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, and Islamabad, providing significant convenience for vehicle buyers and sellers in these regions. However, users are advised to verify the latest transfer requirements with their respective provincial Excise and Taxation department before initiating the process.
The digital service is expected to reduce paperwork, minimize travel, and shorten processing times while improving transparency and security during vehicle ownership transfers.
