Wael, a Rafah resident, hopes that life will return to normal. “Life will start again, despite the immense loss,” he said, referring to the war’s devastating impact on his family and community. “My brother lost his legs, and my young daughter was injured.”

However, wars leave deep marks. “People in Gaza, they are so emotional,” she said. “While some could celebrate, I cannot. Only for the cause of the martyrs.”

On a serious note, she called for a basic right of a ceasefire for the people of Palestine: “It becomes the responsibility of the international communities to force it on Israel also to respect such a right.”

She said the only unfortunate thing now is that they did arm Israel also consistently and ignited this disastrous affair.

The deal encompasses the swapping of Israeli hostages with Palestinian prisoners. This is one of the key steps toward permanent peace.

“We don’t want the war to come back,” Wael said. “We have suffered too much. Our children deserve to go back to school, our hospitals to function, and our people to move freely.”

Ahmad al-Mohsen, another resident of Gaza, echoed this sentiment, saying, “Gaza will rise again, more beautiful than before, but it will take time.”

Salaried class becomes third-largest contributor to Pakistan’s revenue in FY 2023-24

As per the official documents, ARY News reported that the salaried class has become the third-largest contributor to the country’s revenue with a collection of Rs368 billion during the fiscal year 2023-24. This shows an upward surge of 39.3% or Rs103.74 billion from the previous year. The collection of taxes from salaried individuals in Pakistan now surpasses many sectors, entailing the steep role of salaried people in generating revenue for the country.

Despite such a remarkable contribution by the salaried class, taxes from contracts, bank interest, and securities continued to top the chart. Contracts alone raked in Rs496 billion with an increase of over Rs106 billion compared to last year. Taxes on bank interest and securities fetched Rs489 billion as it showed a 52.8% increase compared to a year ago.

Gains from other sectors were equally impressive. A tax on profit distribution rose 70% to Rs 145 billion. Similarly, collection through electricity bills increased by 30% and reached Rs 124 billion. Revenue through the sale and purchase of real estate stood at Rs 104 billion and Rs 95 billion, respectively.

Taxes collected from telephone bills increased by 14.3% and reached Rs100 billion, while the export sector contributed Rs94 billion, which is 27.2% higher. Other areas of increase included technical fees, commissions, cash withdrawals, and retailer purchases.

Addressing “Think Fest 2025” in Lahore, Federal Board of Revenue Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial said 60 percent of the population of the country falls below the threshold limit for paying income tax. However, he mentioned the presence of about 6.7 lakh people, including the ultra-rich, who must pay the taxes but get away with it.

Langrial also expressed sorrow over the unequal tax system in Pakistan, as some of the strongest critics were actually tax evaders themselves. He demanded accountability and reforms for equal contribution by all classes in paying taxes.

Seventeen bazaars will be set up across the district, including areas like Committee Chowk, Hyderi Chowk, and Dhoke Hassu. These markets will offer discounted items such as vegetables, fruits, meat, flour, sugar, and cooking oil.

The bazaars are scheduled to commence operations on the 25th of Shaban and will continue throughout Ramadan. From the 20th of Ramadan onwards, these markets will transition into Eid Bazaars, offering festive items and clothing. Deputy Commissioner Hasan Waqar Cheema stated that each bazaar will have a dedicated in-charge to oversee pricing and security, ensuring a smooth experience for shoppers.

The Lahore Qalandars made a statement as they picked New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell in the Platinum round as their first pick to give their batting a serious boost. The PSL 2025 squads are shaping up to be some of the most competitive yet, with each team making strategic picks. Not to be left behind, the Karachi Kings chose the explosive left-handed batter David Warner as the first pick to add serious firepower to their batting lineup. Both Mitchell and Warner will be making their much-talked-about PSL debuts.

There were some interesting strategic moves in the draft, too. Peshawar Zalmi used the Right to Match option to retain the familiar face of Tom Kohler-Cadmore in their lineup. Quetta Gladiators have picked Shoaib Malik as he will feature in his tenth consecutive PSL edition.
