Copyright Battle: YouTuber MHTOORI vs PTV World

Local YouTube sensation Muzzamil Hussain, popularly known as MHTOORI, has taken a significant step by serving Pakistan Television (PTV) World with a legal notice for copyright infringement. The issue arose when the state-owned television channel aired one of MHTOORI’s original videos without seeking his permission or offering due credit, a standard practice for TV channels when using content created by others.

Surprisingly, PTV administration neither approached Muzzamil for consent nor acknowledged his work. The YouTuber stumbled upon this unauthorized broadcast of his video while watching PTV World, which took place on 30th September around 2 pm. Despite these allegations, the state television has yet to respond to the accusations.

In the legal notice, MHTOORI asserts that the video broadcasted by PTV World was constructed from various clips of his content available on Facebook. These clips were filmed in various scenic locations across Pakistan, including Swabi, Islamia College University, Gwadar, Khanpur Dam, and other historical sites.

Within the legal notice, MHTOORI demands that PTV immediately cease any further broadcast, distribution, or use of the video in question. Furthermore, he seeks compensation amounting to Two Hundred Million PKR for the unauthorized creation and broadcast of his video, in accordance with the Copyright Ordinance of 1962.

MHTOORI’s legal representative has given a 7-day ultimatum to the PTV administration to respond to the legal notice. Should they fail to meet these demands within the stipulated time frame, Muzzamil will initiate legal proceedings to protect his rights as a content creator.

High Stakes: Pakistan vs Cambodia in World Cup Qualifiers

The forthcoming World Cup qualifiers showdown between Pakistan and Cambodia has captured the imaginations of football fans worldwide. This clash promises to be a thrilling encounter, and there are several factors that could shape the outcome.

In the 2023 World Cup qualifiers, Pakistan faced Cambodia in both home and away matches, and the results were not in their favor. Cambodia emerged victorious on both occasions, suggesting that they hold a psychological edge in this contest. The desire to reverse this trend will undoubtedly be a motivating factor for Pakistan.

When we look at FIFA rankings, Cambodia sits at 177, while Pakistan is positioned at 197. While the gap between the two isn’t substantial, it does imply that Cambodia might have a slight advantage on paper. However, football is a dynamic sport, and rankings don’t always reflect the true capabilities of a team.

Pakistan has a new Head Coach, Constantine, leading the team, which could prove to be a game-changer. His coaching philosophy and leadership abilities will play a pivotal role in guiding Pakistan to success. Admittedly, time for team cohesion is limited, but a skilled coach can work wonders in a short span.

An interesting aspect of Pakistan’s team is the inclusion of diaspora players. While this brings diversity and unique experiences to the squad, it also presents challenges. These players often miss regular training sessions in Pakistan, making team integration a demanding task. The match’s result will undoubtedly impact perceptions of this strategy.

In terms of physicality, Pakistan holds an advantage, particularly during set pieces and aerial duels. These could be pivotal moments during the match and may turn the tide in Pakistan’s favor.

Cambodia’s home advantage cannot be understated. With a passionate crowd of over 50,000 fans, the atmosphere will undoubtedly be electric. Home support can be a significant motivating force for the home team and might put additional pressure on Pakistan.

In the world of sports, nothing is set in stone, and the outcome of this match remains uncertain. As they say, “hope for the best, prepare for the worst.” Coach Constantine’s influence and the ability of the team to adapt to his philosophy will be crucial in determining the result. Football matches are known for their unpredictability, which is what makes them so thrilling to watch.

It is pertinent to mention here that in the first leg of Round 1, the match ended with a scoreline of 0-0 witnessing no goal. The enthusiasts can witness the forthcoming match on October 17th at 2:00 PM PST.

Justin Bieber and other Pakistan-favorite celebrities support Israel

Justin Bieber, the renowned Canadian singer, recently took to Instagram to share his thoughts on the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict. In his Instagram post, Bieber expressed his concern for Israel and included an image from the war zone. However, it was later revealed that the image he used was sourced from the Associated Press and depicted a devastated area in the Gaza Strip, a fact reported by The Daily Beast. Following the backlash and criticism, Bieber removed the image and replaced it with a plain background while retaining his message of ‘praying for Israel.’

In a subsequent post, Bieber made it clear that he did not want to demonize all Palestinians or Israelis and expressed his heartfelt concern for the families affected by the violence. He stated, “To vilify all Palestinians or all Israeli people seems wrong to me.” He added, “I’m not taking sides, but I stand with the families who have suffered greatly.” Even though he swiftly removed the controversial image, a significant portion of his nearly 300 million followers had already seen his initial post.

Critics on social media were quick to voice their disappointment. One user expressed their discontent, calling Bieber’s actions embarrassing and advised, “If you don’t fully understand a topic, it’s better not to comment at all.”

Another user shared their astonishment, saying, “Justin Bieber posting ‘praying for Israel’ using a picture of a destroyed Gaza is actually insane.” This misstep highlighted the chasm between celebrities and their understanding of the complex issues they choose to support.

A third user pointed out the challenges that arise when celebrities involve themselves in contentious issues. They stated, “This just shows that most celebrities literally have NO idea what they’re supporting, posting, or talking about.” Bieber’s situation serves as a reminder of the importance of being well-informed and sensitive when engaging with global conflicts, especially on platforms as influential as Instagram.

Stable Prices in Turbulent Times: Cooking Oil and Ghee in Pakistan

Stable Prices in Turbulent Times: Cooking Oil and Ghee in Pakistan

KARACHI: Despite a reduction in the global market, the costs of cooking oil and ghee in Pakistan remained steady on Monday, according to ARY News.

In an era of global economic volatility, one important part of daily living in Pakistan has remained unexpectedly stable: cooking oil and ghee costs. While the rest of the world is experiencing price increases and changes in numerous commodities, five key kitchen necessities in Pakistan have remained stable. This phenomenon has provided some relief to those suffering from the effects of increased expenditures.

Despite a global decline of $110 per tonne in a month, local markets in Pakistan have maintained cooking oil and ghee prices unchanged. When compared to worldwide rates, both local and branded enterprises maintained their prior prices for edible oil and ghee.

He went on to say that the costs of the products were cut by Rs38 per kilogramme, and then by Rs42 per kilogramme after the rupee strengthened against the US currency.

According to Umar Rehan Shaikh, the price of edible oil on the worldwide market last month was $960 per tonne, which was cut to $850 per tonne following a $110 decrease.

The consistent costs of cooking oil and ghee provide a sense of financial certainty for Pakistani households. These kitchen staples are essential for everyday meals, and their low cost alleviates the strain on family budgets.

NADRA Staff Involved in Issuance of Fake CNICs, Senate Body Informed

The Senate Standing Committee on Interior has put forth recommendations to address critical issues concerning national security. The primary concerns discussed include the proliferation of fake computerized national identity cards (CNICs), the unlawful sale of citizens’ family data on the black market, and the issuance of multiple SIM cards on a single CNIC for illicit purposes.

During the committee meeting chaired by Senator Mohsin Aziz, it was revealed that some staff within the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) and external actors have been complicit in the issuance of counterfeit CNICs. Unauthorized residents manage to infiltrate native family trees by offering bribes to family members.

The Chairman of NADRA reported that approximately 84 officials have been suspended so far, but a lack of legislation regarding data privacy hampers more stringent punitive measures. The committee recommended adopting modern security measures to tackle these issues effectively.

The issue of passport acquisition faced by the Mehsud tribe in Karachi was also addressed during the meeting. The Director-General of Passport and Immigration, Mustafa Jamal Kazi, stressed that the department doesn’t discriminate against any individual. However, the delay in passport issuance occurs because Mehsud tribe members are obtaining passports in Karachi, contrary to regulations stipulating that citizens should acquire their first passport in their respective districts.

Kazi also emphasized that the Passport and Immigration Department, despite generating Rs. 39 billion in revenue last year, has yet to modernize its technology, leading to delays in passport issuance. The committee instructed Kazi to provide detailed information about the department’s challenges.

The Pakistan Coast Guards (PCG) briefed the Senate body about its functions, performance, achievements, strengths, and weaknesses. Moreover, the committee addressed concerns related to the Senate Employees Cooperative Housing Society. Discussions revolved around plot possession details, the number of eligible allottees, and the current status of available land for possession.

The Deputy Commissioner Islamabad clarified that the society was registered in 1996 and acquired 1,054 kanals of land from 2005 to 2016. After receiving a non-affiliation notice from the Senate of Pakistan, the society changed its name to Federal Residents Cooperative Housing Society. However, Senator Kamil Ali Agha argued that the society was established under the Senate of Pakistan, and the NOC was issued under its name. Administrative lapses allowed private entities to take over the society’s management.

Senator Saifullah Abro requested that the committee receive details of payments made by Senate employees for membership acquisition. The committee encouraged its members to compile a list of questions to facilitate a comprehensive discussion on the matter.

Additionally, the committee endorsed the nomination of Senator Asad Ali Junejo as a Member of the Board of Governors of the National Counter-Terrorism Authority (NACTA). These discussions and recommendations underline the Senate’s commitment to addressing key security and administrative issues for the benefit of the nation.

Turkey Ready for Safe Evacuation of Citizens in Escalating Israel-Palestine Tensions

As tensions escalate in the region, Turkey has taken decisive steps to ensure the safe evacuation of its citizens from Israel and Palestine. The country’s Transportation and Infrastructure Minister, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, made it clear that Turkey is fully prepared for this operation.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry is actively working on the evacuation of Turkish citizens from both Israel and Palestine. Uraloğlu, speaking to the media just before the AK Party group meeting in Ankara, shared the nation’s commitment to ensuring the safety of its citizens in this challenging situation.

“We are prepared to carry out all kinds of evacuation operations from the sea and air, if necessary,” the minister affirmed. Turkey is leaving no stone unturned in safeguarding its citizens, demonstrating its readiness to act swiftly and decisively.

Uraloğlu also addressed the decision made by Turkey’s national flag carrier, Turkish Airlines (THY), and Pegasus to suspend their flights to Israel. He underscored that these decisions were made independently by the airlines, driven by their concern for passenger safety in the volatile Middle Eastern region. The airlines are committed to resuming their operations only when conditions are deemed safe.

Furthermore, Minister Uraloğlu highlighted the current security situation in the Mediterranean Sea. He stated, “There is a (security) risk at ports at the moment,” and that, in such circumstances, Turkish-flagged ships have been advised to make informed decisions regarding their operations.

The intensifying tensions in the Middle East are exemplified by Israel’s forceful military campaign against the Gaza Strip, a response to the military offensive by the Palestinian group Hamas on Israeli territories. Hamas initiated Operation Al-Aqsa Flood, a surprise attack involving rocket launches and infiltrations by land, sea, and air. These actions were a direct response to the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem and the increasing violence by Israeli settlers against Palestinians.

In retaliation for these events, the Israeli military launched Operation Swords of Iron, targeting Hamas within the Gaza Strip. This conflict has led to a series of severe consequences, including the cutting off of water and electricity supplies to Gaza, further exacerbating the already challenging living conditions in an area under a crippling siege since 2007. The situation remains fluid and demanding, and Turkey is poised to protect its citizens through comprehensive evacuation plans.

Israel-Palestine Conflict: Unraveling Its Origins, Peace Endeavors, and Potential Solutions

The combat between Israel and Hamas, which launched a surprise onslaught on Saturday, is the latest in seven decades of war and struggle between Israelis and Palestinians, which has dragged in other forces and destabilised the Middle East as a whole.

The conflict puts Palestinian aspirations for their own state against Israeli concerns for security in what Israel has long considered a hostile region.

During the conflict that followed, 700,000 c, roughly half of what was British-ruled Palestine’s Arab population, fled or were pushed from their homes, ending up in Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria, as well as Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem.

Israel, a strong US ally, denies driving Palestinians from their homes and points out that it was attacked by five Arab governments the day after it was established. Armistice pacts brought the combat to a standstill in 1949, but there was no real peace.

Palestinians who stayed in the war comprise the Arab Israeli community, which accounts for around 20% of Israel’s population.

What efforts have been made to achieve peace?
Egypt and Israel signed a peace pact in 1979, putting an end to 30 years of hostilities. In 1993, Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin and Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat signed the Oslo Accords on limited Palestinian autonomy. Israel and Jordan signed a peace pact in 1994.

President Bill Clinton, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak, and Yasser Arafat failed to strike an agreement during the 2000 Camp David summit.

An Arab proposal proposed in 2002 offered Israel regular relations with all Arab countries in exchange for a complete withdrawal from the territory it seized in the 1967 Middle East war, the establishment of a Palestinian state, and a “just solution” for Palestinian refugees.

Since 2014, peace attempts have been stopped.

Efforts for Peace:

Throughout the years, numerous peace efforts have been launched, frequently with the assistance of international entities. The following are important landmarks:

The Oslo Accords (1993) were the first direct negotiations between Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO).

Camp David Summit (2000): US-mediated talks aimed at resolving core concerns but ended without a final agreement.

Arab Peace Initiative (2002): Arab League proposal to normalise relations with Israel in exchange for a two-state solution.

Do not trust Twitter for Israel-Palestine news; here is why

In the wake of Hamas’ recent series of lethal attacks on Israel, coupled with the Israeli military’s response, a collective endeavor emerged among a diverse group of individuals comprising journalists, researchers, open-source intelligence (OSINT) experts, and fact-checkers. Their mission was to expeditiously validate the abundance of unfiltered video footage and images circulating on the internet, originating from individuals who found themselves at the heart of the conflict.

However, those who turned to the platform formerly known as Twitter, now X, in pursuit of reliable information regarding the ongoing turmoil, were met with an overwhelming deluge of misinformation.

The propagation of disinformation in the context of major global events has become a familiar and concerning trend, aimed at manipulating the narrative. Nevertheless, the sheer magnitude and velocity at which disinformation inundated discussions surrounding the Israel-Hamas conflict, particularly on X, were without precedent.

Justin Peden, an OSINT researcher, shared his perspective on the matter:

“This has undoubtedly been the most challenging crisis to cover on this platform for a multitude of reasons. What used to be credible sources have now transformed into mere photo albums. News outlets on the ground find it arduous to reach their audience without the elusive blue checkmark. Regrettably, xenophobic voices often find themselves amplified by the platform’s CEO. These are indeed trying times.”

During his coverage of the Gaza escalation in 2021, Peden’s feed predominantly featured content sourced directly from individuals present at the scene or reputable news agencies. However, over the recent weekend, he lamented the stark difficulty in locating verified content or authentic primary sources on X.

This challenge was further exacerbated by the platform’s algorithm, which elevated the visibility of posts from users willing to part with $8 a month for a premium subscription. Consequently, posts from individuals adorned with the coveted blue checkmark quickly surged to the forefront of news feeds for those in search of information regarding the conflict.

Rather than encountering accurate, fact-checked information, X users were greeted with deceptive content. This included video game clips deceptively presented as authentic footage of Hamas attacks and images depicting fireworks celebrations in Algeria, falsely depicted as Israeli strikes on Hamas targets.

In addition to this, there were instances of forged images depicting soccer icon Ronaldo holding the Palestinian flag. Furthermore, a three-year-old video from the Syrian civil war was repurposed to create the illusion that it was captured during the recent events. These images and videos garnered hundreds of thousands of views and engagements. Although some of this content later carried a disclaimer courtesy of X’s beleaguered community fact-checking system, a substantial portion remained unaddressed.

To make matters worse, Twitter CEO Elon Musk, as he has done in the past, exacerbated the situation by endorsing a source notorious for spreading misinformation. Musk did retract his endorsement shortly after posting it, but by then, it had already reached over 11 million people.

UEFA Confirms United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland as Co-Hosts for Euro 2028

UEFA Confirms United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland as Co-Hosts for Euro 2028

In a significant announcement, UEFA has confirmed that the 2028 European Championship will be jointly hosted by the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland. This decision follows Turkey’s redirection of its bid to the 2032 tournament, where it partners with Italy.

Both bids for the 2028 and 2032 editions faced no competition, yet the formal endorsement from UEFA was pivotal. The decision to focus on hosting Euro 2028 came after the United Kingdom and Ireland withdrew their intentions of bidding for the 2030 World Cup.

The tournament’s opening ceremony is set to take place at the iconic Principality Stadium in Cardiff, with the grand finale scheduled for Wembley in London. This hosting opportunity marks a historic debut for the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, and Wales as major football event hosts.

Euro 2028 is expected to span across 10 venues, including renowned stadiums like Hampden Park in Glasgow and Aviva Stadium in Dublin. Notably, the yet-to-be-constructed Casement Park in Belfast and Everton’s under-construction Bramley-Moore Dock are part of the venue list, adding a touch of anticipation to the event.

As for Euro 2032, Italy, initially the sole bidder, will now co-host with Turkey, with plans for 20 stadiums. The final decision on the allocation of the last 10 stadiums, evenly split between the two countries, is anticipated by October 2026. While Turkey recently hosted the Champions League final in Istanbul’s Ataturk Olympic Stadium, it eagerly awaits its first major international football event.

Italy, in contrast, brings with it the rich history of hosting the European Championship in 1968 and 1980. These developments promise an exciting future for European football, with both tournaments set to leave a lasting impact.

Battling Seasonal Cough: Tips for Relief

Our health problems change as the seasons do, and coughing is one of the conditions that frequently peaks at this time of year. Numerous things, such as allergies, infections, and climatic changes, can cause seasonal coughs. Here are some useful suggestions to keep in mind so that you can get relief and maintain control of your cough.

Keeping hydrated is one of the best strategies to relieve a cough. Throughout the day, consume a lot of clear liquids, especially water. This can lessen inflammation and keep your throat moist.

Your airways can be soothed and coughing can be decreased by inhaling steam. To capture the steam, pour boiling water into a bowl, throw a towel over your head, and place your face over the bowl. Inhale slowly and deeply as you do so.

The addition of moisture to the air by using a humidifier in your bedroom or the areas where you spend the most time can help soothe dry and itchy throats that frequently accompany coughs.

A warm mixture of honey and lemon is a traditional at-home cure for cough alleviation. Warm water and a tablespoon of honey combined with a squeeze of lemon juice will soothe a sore throat and lessen coughing.

Take 1/4 teaspoon each of mulethi powder, cinnamon, and turmeric with honey twice daily, in the morning and evening. This combination works wonders.

Tulsi leaves, ginger, and honey: Crush around 10 tulsi leaves, then combine with the juice of a tiny piece of ginger. To relieve cough, mix with an equal amount of honey, then take one teaspoon of this three times a day.

200 cc of water with 10 Tulsi leaves added should be boiled, then consumed throughout the day. And you can use this water to gargle twice daily.

Rapid Rise: Pakistan’s Public Debt Grows Faster than Economy

Over the past two decades, Pakistan’s gross public debt has outpaced its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth, with a notable surge in recent years. In the fiscal year 2022-23 (FY23), the country’s gross public debt has soared to Rs. 62.9 trillion, equivalent to 74.3 percent of the GDP.

This represents a significant increase compared to the debt of Rs. 3.7 trillion, accounting for 56.1 percent of GDP, back in FY03. This escalating debt burden has seen a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 15.2 percent over the last 20 years.

During this period, Pakistan’s domestic debt has exhibited a CAGR of 16.3 percent, reaching Rs. 38.8 trillion, while external debt has risen at a CAGR of 13.8 percent. The overall size of Pakistan’s economy has expanded to Rs. 84.7 trillion in FY23, marking substantial growth from Rs. 6.6 trillion two decades ago, with a CAGR of 13.6 percent over this period.

Remarkably, out of the total debt increase of Rs. 59.2 trillion over the past two decades, a substantial Rs. 37.9 trillion upsurge has occurred in just the last five years, underscoring the recent acceleration in Pakistan’s debt accumulation.

World Bank Clarifies Taxation Proposal for Incomes Under Rs. 50,000

The World Bank has made a clarification regarding its earlier statement on taxing individuals with salaries less than Rs. 50,000 a month in Pakistan. The bank stated that its initial suggestion was based on 2019 data, which now needs updating to account for recent changes in inflation and the labor market.

Recent data revealed a surprising fact: the salaried class in Pakistan contributed more in taxes over the last three months than the combined tax contributions of the country’s wealthiest exporters and the real estate sector. Despite having lower incomes compared to these sectors, salaried individuals paid Rs. 71 billion in taxes, which is Rs. 6 billion more than what exporters and the real estate sector paid.

The World Bank acknowledged the need for new analysis based on current data and emphasized the importance of ensuring that any changes to tax thresholds protect individuals with low incomes. They also admitted that their previous recommendation should have been clearer about the necessity for updated analysis.

Pakistan Enforces Ban on Exporting 212 Items to Afghanistan

Pakistan Bans Export Of 212 Items To Afghanistan

Pakistan’s Islamabad: According to ARY News on Thursday, the Pakistani Ministry of Commerce has prohibited the export of 212 products to Afghanistan.

Pakistan has enacted this export embargo in an effort to preserve its own businesses and rein in the flow of goods that could be contributing to a trade imbalance. The smuggling of products into Pakistan from Afghanistan has alarmed the authorities since it results in lost revenue and a negative impact on regional industries.

The nation has imposed export restrictions on 17 different clothing categories, all types of tyres for vehicles, tea leaves, cosmetics, and a variety of toiletries.

Similar restrictions apply to the importation of nuts, dried and fresh fruits, and home appliances such as juicers, mixers, freezers, and air conditioners.

The restriction comes a day after Pakistan charged a 10% processing fee for a number of imports made in accordance with the transit trade deal with Afghanistan.

The Special Investment Facilitations Council (SIFC) apex committee’s recommendations led to the Pakistani government’s decision to stop the smuggling of luxury goods through the Afghan transit trade.
