Hubble Discovers a Multi-generational Cluster

Image: NASA

The above image is of a globular star cluster NGC 2419. These clusters are absolutely fascinating and beautiful. They are actually stars arranged in a spherical setting that orbit the galaxy. In this case, the galaxy of NGC 2419 is our Milky Way.

According to NASA, the NGC 2419 is approximately 300,000 light-years away from our solar system. The stars included in globular clusters are very much same because they are all formed more or less at the same time.

Astronomers analyze a star’s chemical make up to determine its age. Since stars in a globular cluster are of the same age, their properties are also alike.

However, the latest revelation by Hubble tells us that this is not the case with NGC 2419. This particular globular cluster has two separate populations of red giant stars, and one with helium.

NGC 2419’s stars has other varying elements too. For example, their nitrogen content is different. To everyone’s surprise, the helium-rich stars here are present in the center and are rotating as well.

Hubble’s latest observations have put question mark on the formation of globular clusters; are they two different groups of stars or this particular globular cluster was formed differently?

image: Parkview Health

If you or someone you know is feeling tightness, pressure, heaviness or squeezing across your chest, it is time to call an ambulance immediately. Often the pain starts spreading toward your arms, mostly toward the left arm, neck, jaw, tummy, back coupled with sweating, shortness of breath, nausea, lightheadedness, vomiting, wheezing or coughing. They are all symptoms of a heart attack and must be dealt with immediately.

In most cases, the pain in chest is severe, however, some people only experience minor pain. Chest pain is the most common symptom of a cardiac arrest in men and women, however, women also experience pain in back and jaw, shortness of breath and nausea along with it.

There are some other signs and symptoms that indicate that a person is suffering from a cardiac arrest including: the patient may stop moving and they stop responding to touch and any other simulation.

In case someone is showing these symptoms and you do not have any access to an automated external defibrillator (AED), start doing chest compressions until the help arrives.

How To Do Chest Compressions:

For an adult, put the heel of your hand on the breastbone of the patient. Now put your other hand on the top of the first hand and interlock the fingers. Use your whole bodyweight and start pressing down on their chest. Keep doing this until an ambulance is there. You should be doing 100-120 compressions per minute.

You can also find the “hands-only” CPR tutorial from the British Heart Foundation helpful in this situation .

Heart attacks are becoming more common in young people and only timely response can save a person’s life in this situation.

AIC raises red flags over Pakistan’s Data Protection Bill 2023 – Is it a threat to foreign internet companies?

AIC raises red flags over Pakistan's Data Protection Bill 2023 - Is it a threat to foreign internet companies?
Image: techjuice

The Asia Internet Coalition (AIC), a group of digital media giants, has raised concerns over Pakistan’s Draft Data Protection Bill 2023, stating that the bill does not address the industry’s substantive concerns.

AIC Managing Director Jeff Paine expressed his worries in a letter addressed to Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Aminul Haque, stating that the bill’s current points would negatively impact Pakistan’s economy and severely impact the ability of foreign internet companies to trade with and operate in Pakistan.

Paine added that local Pakistani companies may lose access to cost-efficient global cloud services, making it less competitive, as they need substantial costs to operate and maintain servers.

The letter identified 16 core issues in the Bill, including stringent limitations on cross-border data flow and mandatory data localization, which will significantly impact Pakistan’s business environment and industry.

AIC has requested an industry meeting to clearly understand the issue and priorities that are important to consider from the Bill. In addition, they recommended reducing the requirement to store personal data on a data centre or a server in Pakistan under Section 30(1) of the Bill. The AIC appreciates the opportunity to provide feedback on the Draft Bill, but their concerns still need to be addressed.

The National Radio and Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC) has begun the production of electric buses after receiving a demand from the Capital Development Authority (CDA). According to sources, NRTC has notified CDA that it has started manufacturing buses and will deliver the first batch of 30 electric buses next month.

The drivers for these electric buses will be trained after the first batch arrives, and after two weeks of training, the buses will be operational on two routes connecting IJP and Taramri with the Central Metro Bus System in Islamabad. CDA officials have stated that feeder buses will operate on 13 routes, providing world-class travel facilities for approximately 100,000 passengers.

CDA had previously issued a tender for 200 electric buses for 13 routes, but the authority had to reissue the tender due to interest from only two companies. After canceling the bids and inviting new ones, the decision was made to acquire 200 electric buses from NRTC to operate on the new routes.

The second and third batches of 70 buses each from NRTC will be delivered to CDA in June and July, respectively. With the introduction of electric buses, CDA aims to provide eco-friendly public transportation and promote sustainable living in the city.

Minister Hints at Another Winter Without Gas In Pakistan

Minister of State for Petroleum Musadik Malik has told the media that things are moving in the right direction and Pakistan is likely to receive the first Russian crude oil consignment this month. He said while talking to the businessmen, petroleum dealers and industrialists in Karachi that “Import of crude oil from Russia will start this month”.

Last year, Pakistani authorities said that, just like our neighbour India, we are also contemplating buying Russian crude oil.

However, later Russia said that it will only be able to offer oil to Pakistan after March on certain conditions.

The Russian Energy Minister Nikolay Shulginov on his visit to Pakistan said that “We are discussing with Islamabad whether payment could be made in the currencies of ‘friendly’ countries.”

He further said that “As for the supply of crude oil and petroleum products, we conceptually agreed on the development and signing of an agreement that will determine and resolve all issues of logistics, insurance, payment and volumes.”

According to Malik, oil dealers have given some suggestions for providing cheap petrol. He said, “The ministry of petroleum will prepare a scheme for supply of cheap petrol only after reviewing it.”

He also said that Pakistan’s gas reserves are depleting very fast and that they country could have another winter without gas.

Malik added, “Our gas reserves are depleting and round-the-clock gas supply is not possible. The demand for gas increases from November. Due to rains and cold weather in Balochistan, the demand for gas has increased there.” He continued, “We are making efforts to ensure an uninterrupted supply of electricity and gas to the consumers during suhoor and iftar hours [in Ramazan]. In this regard, we have also spoken to the governor of Sindh. However, I will request people to pay their bills.” He also blamed the poor infrastructure for the gas load shedding in Karachi. He said, “Due to the lack of infrastructure in Karachi, there are obstacles in the supply of gas to some areas.”

World Bank lowers growth forecast for Pakistan’s economy in FY23, urging government to implement effective policies

The World Bank has lowered its growth forecast for Pakistan’s economy in the current fiscal year (FY23), from 2 percent to only 0.4 percent. This reflects subdued private sector activity, import controls, belated fiscal tightening, and the impacts of the unprecedented floods of summer 2022, according to the bank’s Pakistan Development Update released on Tuesday.

The lower growth forecast indicates the challenges faced by the Pakistani economy and the urgent need for the government to implement effective policies to address them. The government needs to focus on improving confidence in the private sector and easing import controls to stimulate economic activity. Additionally, fiscal tightening measures should be implemented promptly to ensure the sustainability of the country’s economic growth.

This is a critical time for Pakistan’s economy, and the government must take proactive measures to ensure its stability and growth. The World Bank’s revised forecast highlights the importance of implementing effective policies and strategies to address the challenges faced by the economy and promote sustainable growth.

Pakistan’s economic growth has been revised down to 0.4 percent for FY23, highlighting the urgent need for the government to implement effective policies to stimulate economic activity and improve investor confidence. The government should focus on easing import controls, implementing fiscal tightening measures, and promoting private sector growth to support the country’s economic recovery.

Latest Gold Price in Pakistan will amaze you

On Tuesday, the price of gold in Pakistan reached a new all-time high, increasing by Rs. 5,000 per tola, according to data released by the All-Pakistan Sarafa Gems and Jewellers Association (APSGJA). The price of gold (24 carats) rose to Rs. 214,500 per tola, while the price of 10 grams increased by Rs. 4,288 to Rs. 183,900.

Gold has seen a cumulative gain of over Rs. 6,000 per tola in the last two sessions alone (Monday-Tuesday), with the price of gold rising by Rs. 1,200 per tola on Tuesday.

However, in the international market, spot gold fell by 0.2 percent to $1,979.69 per ounce by 1131 GMT, while US gold futures also dropped to $1,996.40.

Meanwhile, the Pakistani rupee hit a new all-time low of Rs. 287.29 against the US dollar in the interbank market on the same day. The rupee slipped as uncertainty persists around the revival of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) program, with no clear indication from the government on when a staff-level agreement will be signed.

This surge in the price of gold in Pakistan and the drop in the value of the Pakistani rupee are indications of the ongoing economic challenges faced by the country. The government needs to take measures to address these challenges and stabilize the economy, such as implementing effective monetary and fiscal policies.

While the price of gold may have surged to a new all-time high in Pakistan, it is important to consider the bigger picture and the underlying economic factors that have led to this development. The government must take necessary actions to address these challenges and improve the country’s economic outlook.

5 reasons why you should not believe what you see on Instagram Life

Instagram has become one of the most popular social media platforms, with over 1 billion active users. It has created a culture where people share their lives, and it can be easy to get caught up in the images and videos that people post. However, it is important to remember that what you see on Instagram is not always a true reflection of reality. Here are five reasons why you should not believe what you see on Instagram life.

People only share the highlights

Instagram is a platform where people showcase the best parts of their lives. They share the highlights, such as vacations, special events, and achievements. It is easy to believe that these moments represent someone’s entire life, but this is not the case. People don’t share the mundane or difficult parts of their lives, so it is important to remember that Instagram only shows a small part of someone’s life.

Filters and editing can be deceiving

Instagram filters and editing tools can make a photo look completely different from reality. It is easy to manipulate images to make them look more appealing or to hide flaws. Just because a photo looks perfect does not mean it accurately represents reality. It is important to keep this in mind when viewing images on Instagram.

Sponsored content can be misleading

Many Instagram influencers and celebrities make money from sponsored content. They promote products or services in exchange for payment. While this is a legitimate way for influencers to make money, it can be misleading for their followers. They may promote a product that they don’t actually use or that doesn’t work as advertised.

Comparison can be damaging

Social media can be damaging to mental health, especially when people compare themselves to others. It is easy to feel inferior when scrolling through Instagram and seeing other people’s seemingly perfect lives. It is important to remember that what you see on Instagram is not the full picture and that comparison can be harmful.

Validation-seeking behavior

Some people use Instagram as a way to seek validation from others. They post photos and videos to get likes and comments, which can be addictive. It is important to remember that seeking validation from others is not a healthy behavior and can lead to anxiety and low self-esteem.

Conclusion

Instagram is a fun platform to use and can be a great way to connect with others. However, it is important to remember that what you see on Instagram is not always a true reflection of reality. People only share the highlights, filters and editing can be deceiving, sponsored content can be misleading, comparison can be damaging, and validation-seeking behavior can be harmful. By keeping these things in mind, you can use Instagram in a healthy and positive way.
