Nida Dar named ICC Women's Player of the Month winner for October 2022

Pakistan’s star all-rounder Nida Dar has been named the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for October 2022 after amazing performances during the Women’s Asia Cup 2022 in Bangladesh.

India’s Jemimah Rodrigues and Deepti Sharma were also nominated for the award alongside Nida. But the Pakistan all-rounder claimed the title, beating the Indian duo.

Nida Dar delivered an outstanding performance for Pakistan in the Women’s Asia Cup 2022 in October. She accumulated 145 runs in six matches, at an outstanding average of 72.50, and also claimed eight wickets at a measly 14.87 runs apiece.

Her feats include a superb all-round display against India where she scored an unbeaten 56 and went on to claim bowling figures of 2/23 to guide Pakistan to an outstanding victory. Nida’s consistent performances in a tough batting and bowling role throughout the tournament helped Pakistan in reaching the semi-finals, where they lost to Sri Lanka by just a run.

Dar expressed her happiness on winning the award: “It was great to be nominated for the award and to win it is very special to me. I wish we could have won the Women’s Asia Cup, but I am happy that we as a team are performing, and the recent series win against Ireland at home shows the commitment the girls are putting into their game.

“I take great pride in representing my country and my aim is to contribute to my team winning as much as I can.”

Dove Pakistan

KARACHI, November 4th, 2022: Dove, the leading global personal care brand, has worked for decades towards embracing real beauty and confidence for women around the world. Dove Pakistan is now stepping into the future by launching its first-ever digital collectible (Non-Fungible Token).

Through its range of shampoos and conditioners, Dove Pakistan has always focused on providing women with solutions to damaged hair. The Dove digital collectible campaign encourages consumers to start a journey of healing—not hiding—and see a part of their journey envisioned through art. The idea is simple, relatable, and future-ready.

The Dove digital collectible is a token that unlocks damage-free hair and turns the collectible artwork into a reality for consumers. To win the collectible, they must sign up; Dove will then select 10 lucky winners through a lucky draw. These lucky winners can show their digital collectible at a salon to get a free nourishing hair treatment and a  1-year supply of Dove shampoo. This is an innovative step to help women see and experience what it feels like to wear their hair worry-free and with confidence.

Digital art is opening up new avenues for consumers, allowing them to gain sole proprietorship of digital artwork. Conventionally, digital art enthusiasts require cryptocurrency or digital wallets to acquire digital artwork. However, Dove Pakistan has simplified the process by using a quicker, more user-friendly and engaging approach. With a simple, one-click sign-up https://tryunilever.com/pages/dove-nft, enthusiasts can be part of the lucky draw that will randomly choose ten lucky winners in December 2022. The digital collectible will be sent to the winners via email for them to collect.

Dove Pakistan all-set for a tech tangent with its first Digital Collectible

Adil Hussain, Unilever Director Marketing – Hair Care, spoke about the NFT collectible. He said, “As a marketing team, we’re in a constant loop of testing and learning with an objective to delight our consumers by providing them new, exciting, and relevant ways to interact with their favorite shampoo brand. The Dove digital collectible campaign that’s making use of NFTs to promote branded digital art, along with many other incentives, is just another example in that same journey. We’re excited to be one of the first brands in Pakistan to actively use NFTs in a digital campaign.”

Speaking on the initiative, and why celebrating real beauty and women’s confidence is central to the brand ethos, Humza Mahfooz and Sundus Altaf of Dove Pakistan’s Brand Team said, “Our digital collectibles are just a unique way to let our consumers know that Dove Shampoo’s unique formulation can help repair and nourish damaged hair and bring back confidence in every aspect of life, both real and virtual.”

Speaking on next-gen technologies and creating brands beyond marketing, Amanpreet Singh, Unilever Global Media Lead (Metaverse and Web3), said, “At Unilever, we are always trying to push the envelope of marketing and find meaningful ways to connect with our consumers through unmissable ideas using innovative technologies. The Dove Digital Collectible campaign is a step further in this endeavor, where we’re using NFTs to drive brand messaging and, in turn, reward our consumers with long-term utility. Beyond marketing, we see next-gen technologies like NFTs as a gateway to open new possibilities of consumer engagement and brand advocacy through limited edition packs, gamification, and loyalty programs built with blockchain-backed benefits.”

“This campaign couldn’t have come together without the help of our partners,” Humza Mahfooz and Sundus Altaf added. Dove Pakistan’s creative partners, Team Reactivate, also expressed their excitement for the campaign by saying, “This journey into the world of NFTs is as exciting as it’s necessary. While the segment of NFT users is small, it’s one that’s growing. It’s important to keep pace with digital and technological advancements, pre-empt where our users will be, and find ways to create relevance and connect with them right where they are. As the world steps into the digital universe, Dove wants to be the first of its kind in Pakistan to initiate this journey hand-in-hand with the rest of the world.”

The Dove digital collectible is minted on Polygon, which has reached carbon neutrality by partnering with KlimaDAO, a decentralized collective of environmentalists, developers, and entrepreneurs.

Income Tax Returns Filing Dropped to 34%

Income Tax Returns

The date for filing income tax returns has now been extended to November 30th, 2022.

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has achieved their target of Rs. 2.14 trillion in the last four months, however, they are now struggling with keeping the pace amidst the reduction in income tax returns filers.

The decline mainly came from increasing the tax base. The FBR is expecting to collect over Rs. 1.3 million to match last year’s performance. To meet the targets, the date for filing the returns has been extended for the second time.

The officials at FBR said that the department has collected Rs. 2.148 trillion taxes in July-Oct as compared to the target Rs. 2.143. The collected tax during the same period last year was 16% more, Rs. 305 billion.

The income tax collection was Rs. 1.84 trillion in the first four months of the previous year. However, due to the recent economic crisis, it seems that FBR is likely to face difficulties in meeting targets.

The FBR has also missed its monthly target of Rs. 534 billion buy Rs. 22 billion, primarily because of a ban on imports.

The domestic sales tax stood at Rs. 298 billion which is increased by Rs 42 billion or 16% in the last four months.

Additionally, the IMF has also asked the government of Pakistan to impose more taxes, around Rs. 600 billion. With this new demand, the pressure on the government will increase further.

No Risk of Default – Pakistan Will Meet Debt Obligations on Time: SBP Governor

Governor State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Jameel Ahmed said that Pakistan will repay all its debts on time and there are no risks of the country defaulting due to the nonpayment of international debts.

Ahmed was addressing the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) and said, “Let me assure you that we will be meeting all our debt obligations on time and there should be no concern about that.”

The probability of the country defaulting rose to 52.8% this week, which is the highest in the last 13 years. Pakistani currency was recently downgraded by two global credit rating agencies including Fitch Ratings and Moody’s Investors. The downgrading is based on the apprehension that in the wake of the recent catastrophic floods, causing over $30 billion losses, Pakistan’s capacity to pay back the debts is very week.

Ahmed continued, “Pakistan received a $1.5 billion loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) recently. Additional inflows from some other multilateral and bilateral institutions including the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) are also expected soon.”

“These inflows not only help meet our debt obligations but also improve our foreign exchange reserves.” Earlier, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) revived its $6.5 billion loan program for Pakistan through a combined seventh and eighth review of the economy on August 29, 2022,” he said.

According to Ahmed, “So far, over 10,000 non-resident Pakistanis from across the globe have invested $35 million (Rs7.8 billion) in stocks of companies listed at the PSX.”

“While investment via RDA into the stock exchange has been relatively subdued, amounting to around only $35 million,” he added, “investments into the conventional and Shariah-compliant Naya Pakistan certificates through RDA stood at $1.7 billion and $1.6 billion respectively.”

“Over 484,000 RDAs have been opened by non-resident Pakistanis from 175 countries across the world. The total inflows from these RDAs stand at around $5.28 billion. The launch of the Roshan Equity Investment (at the PSX) was made at an opportune time,” he added.

5 must watch comedy movies of all times

With the changing priorities of society, with each passing day, comedy movies are becoming classier. Today, they are no longer a source of entertainment for kids and families. They have become a part of the adult culture and are adored by many. We have listed a collection of comedy movies from all eras and genres.

  1. Bridesmaids

The film “Bridesmaids” is a comedy about five friends who have stayed friends since college and are now in their mid-30s. They agree to throw a bridal shower for their friend Annie, who is just getting married. The film displays the comedic scuffles of the characters and how they handle their life, love, and relationships. It’s nearly impossible to write a review of Bridesmaids without observing how witty and funny it is. The dialogue is so ordinary and often amusing that you can’t help but laugh out loud while watching it.

2. Superbad

“Superbad” became an enormous hit with its edgy humor and was nominated for several awards. It had a massive imprint on Hollywood as it presented the youthfulness and proactivity of recent movies such as “The Hangover.” Superbad is well thought-out to be one of Seth Rogan’s funniest roles. Actors like Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Bill Hader, Rachel McAdams, and Bill Paxton perform the finest in this movie.

3. When Harry Met Sally

When Harry Met Sally is an American romantic comedy film released to be watched in 1989, the film stars Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan as friends who find love surprisingly after meeting on a pancontinental flight and has been attributed with popularizing the terms “manic pixie dream girl” and “terrible teens.” Right after its release, it established universal acclaim from censors and several awards, including the Academy Awards for Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actor for Bruno Kirby’s performance as Nicky Kahlil.

4. Coming To America

Coming to America is a 1988 American comedy-drama film directed by John Landis and starring Eddie Murphy. Landis and Barry Blaustein wrote the script. Coming to America has been well-thought-out to be one of the most ethnically influential films ever made about African Americans in America. It remains a cult classic today, particularly among Afro-Caribbean Americans, for its portrayal of African American culture in New York City during the 1980s.

5. Best In Show

The 2000 film “Best in Show” spins around a group of dog breeders hopeful of competing to have their dog adjudicated as the best in the show. The movie is roughly based on the real-world Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. When it comes to funny and cheerful films, many people may not think of 2000’s Best in Show, but this movie is absolutely worth watching.

Government Agrees to Increase Panadol Price

The government has allowed to increase Paracetamol prices as it cannot offer any subsidy to the company or waive import duties on the raw material. Panadol is a drug used to relieve pain and reduce fever. The drug is high in demand in Pakistan post catastrophic floods and, dengue and malaria outbreak. The manufacturer stopped making the medicine, causing a shortage in the market while creating a medical emergency in the healthcare sector.

After the recent agreement, the price of a single Panadol tablet will be increased by 48-56 paisa while the price of a Panadol syrup bottle will be up by Rs. 12.8.

The government is already suffering financially and is discouraging import of raw material. It also has no budget for subsidy due to spending limitations imposed by IMF.

The new price hike is around 25.6% for tablets and 12% for syrup.

An official statement issued by the Finance Ministry stated that Ishaq Dar, Finance Minister, held meetings with the concerned authorities from the pharmaceutical industry to discuss the retail price of Paracetamol products.

According to the ministry, the price hike is almost half of the increase the manufacturers have demanded. The companies have restarted the production of paracetamol after the announcement.

The proposed increase suggested by the Health Ministry was Rs. 1.87 for a Paracetamol 500mg tablet making it Rs. 2.67, around 43% (80 paisa) increase. However, the finance minister agreed to a 48 paise hike only.

Who says NO to chocolates? No one. True, but do you know your favorite chocolate, too, is available in different colors and types. Sounds yummy, isn’t it?

Without a wasting a single second, let us read about the different types this mood-lifter is offered in.

Milk Chocolate

This is probably the most-consumed type of chocolate the world because of its sweet and creamy taste. Its texture is silky and smooth. You take a bite of milk chocolate, and it starts melting in your mouth. This type of chocolate is made with 12% milk and 10% chocolate liquor.

Dark Chocolate

Credits: Cleaveland Clinic

For a chocolate to be classified Dark, it must have at least 35% chocolate liquor (source: United Stated Food and Drug Administration – FDA). If a chocolate has 65-70% liquor, it is supposed to be bitter and less creamy. When the percentage reaches 80 or above, the chocolate becomes very bitter and brittle to enjoy on its own. Therefore, dark chocolate is mostly used in baking and other desserts.

Panadol Shortage Causing Medical Problems

The business community has urged the government to take notice of Panadol shortage in the market which is causing problems for the doctors and patients amidst malaria and dengue.

The ICCI President Mr. Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawari has requested the government to resolve the issue of Panadol’s availability in the market on immediate bases. The shortage of medicine is already impacting pharmacies and medical practitioners.

Bakhtawari was talking to a delegation from Pakistan Chemists and Druggists Association (PCDA) under the leadership of Mian Tariq Saeed. During the meeting he said that Panadol’s demand is increasing in the market, especially in the flood-affected areas and after the dengue and malaria outbreak. The shortage of this drug has now started affecting the patients and their health.

Bakhtawari said, “The manufacturer has suspended the production of Panadol due to a twofold increase in the price of its raw material. They are urging that the government take urgent measures to rationalize the price of raw material to ensure a restart of its production and easy availability in the market.”

The PCDA Chairman said, “The price of raw materials required to produce Panadol has witnessed a twofold increase which affected the availability of this product in the market and pharmacies are also losing business on this account,” urging the government to look into the root cause of this shortage.

“The online buying and selling of medicines are illegal under the Drug Act. The regulator should ensure strict implementation of this law as this practice was affecting the businesses of license holder chemists and druggists,” he said.

IMF Demands Pakistan to Impose More Taxes

IMF demands Pakistan to impose more taxes
Source: The News International

Pakistan is currently suffering from the worst economic crisis. The double-digit inflation has reduced the purchasing power of people while the government also seems to be struggling with revenue generation. Amidst the existing financial crunch, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has asked Pakistan to foist nearly Rs. 600 billion additional taxes while urging Islamabad to set up a task force to deal with corruption.

Though currently Pakistan’s economy is generating healthy revenue, the demand for more taxes has arisen due to an anticipated tax-to-GDP ratio shortfall.

However, the Pakistani authorities are yet to accept the demand of additional taxes by the IMF.

Afaque Qureshi, spokesman and a member of Inland Revenue Policy says, “The FBR is not considering any proposal to impose more taxes.”

Considering the current political situation in the country, it is highly unlikely that the coalition government of Pakistan Democratic Movement will accept this new demand. The ruling party, Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML -N), has lost the support of many voters in the wake of increasing cost of living ever since it has taken the charge of the office and it seems like that PML – N is not ready to take any more risks.

Sources have revealed that the IMF wanted Pakistan to impose a sales tax on petroleum prices, however, the Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has rejected the proposal.

Pakistani rupee is losing its value and the recent floods have further sabotaged the economy. Currently, the inflation in the country is around 23% and the GDP growth stands at 2%.
