Reduction in electricity price for Karachi by Rs 4.89 per unit

ISLAMABAD: Nepra has issued a notification to reduce the price of electricity by Rs 4.89 per unit for Karachi while at the same time approving an additional 19 paise per unit for the entire country.

According to Express News, Nepra has issued a notification for approval of a reduction of electricity by Rs 4.89 paisa per unit for K Electric customers, according to which the reduction has been approved in the context of the August monthly fuel charges adjustment.

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority held a public hearing on the FCA on 29 September 2022. It should be noted that K Electric had requested a reduction of 4 rupees 21 paise per unit.

Meanwhile, Nepra has issued a notification approving the increase of electricity by 19 paise per unit for other cities.

The authority has approved the hike in August monthly fuel charges adjustment of discos. The Authority held a public hearing on the FCA on 29 September 2022. It may be noted that CPPA-G had requested an increase of 22 paise per unit.

Scientists urge to raise awareness against plastic consumption after observation of microplastics in mothers’ milk

In a recent study, Scientists find microplastics in 75% of 34 samples from new mothers. The presence of plastic in the environment remains a significant health concern. The health departments of the world need to focus on raising awareness about plastic use.

The Guardian reported that microplastic particles had been found in mother’s milk for the first time in history, leaving researchers and scientists concerned about the potential impact on the babies’ health.
The shocking discovery was made when human milk samples —collected from 34 healthy mothers within a week after childbirth in Rome, Italy — underwent a scan. Microplastics were detected in 75% of the pieces.

The presence of plastic in the environment remains a significant concern due to the harmful effects of the chemicals it contains, as the habitants of the ecosystem continue to bear the consequences of environmental pollution.

Previous research has shown the toxic effects of microplastics in human cell lines, lab animals, and marine wildlife, but the impact on living humans is still undiscovered.

As per the publication, the researchers considered the mothers’ consumption of food and drink packed in plastic and the use of personal hygiene products containing plastic but found no correlation with microplastics in breast milk.

The research suggested that microplastics are omnipresent in the environment, which “makes human exposure inevitable.”

“It will be crucial to assess ways to reduce exposure to these contaminants during pregnancy and lactation,” said Dr. Valentina Notarstefano. She led the study at the Universita Politecnica Delle Marche in Italy.

However, scientists stress the need to dig deeper into the reasons behind the presence of microplastics, as breastfeeding is by far the most healthy form of infant nutrition.

A study reveals that India uploads more than 55% of Islamophobic content on Twitter

Islamic Council of Victoria (ICV) initiated a study on Islamophobia, showing that the most anti-Muslim content on Twitter is from India. Canada declares Pakistan-India borders as an unsafe place for its citizens

There’s a peculiar announcement made by the travel advisory of the Canadian government for its citizens traveling to India. The government warned them from traveling to Gujarat, Punjab, and Rajasthan. The Indian states have borders with Pakistan, due to the occurrence of ‘landmines’.

“Avoid all travel to areas within 10 km of the border with Pakistan in the following states due to the unpredictable security situation and presence of landmines and unexploded ordnance: Gujarat, Punjab Rajasthan,” India news agency ANI quoted the advisory as reading.

Canada also enquired its citizens to practice a high degree of attentiveness in India due to the “threat of terrorist attacks throughout the country”.

This weird regulation came into existence after India on September 23 issued an advisory for Indian nationals and students in Canada to stay vigilant within increasing events of crimes and anti-India activities in the country.

“There has been a sharp increase in incidents of hate crimes, sectarian violence, and anti-India activities in Canada. The Ministry of External Affairs and our High Commission/Consulates General in Canada have taken up these incidents with the Canadian authorities and requested them to investigate the crimes and take appropriate action,” India’s Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.

The mother of three secured the top position in the class 10 exams

Sabrina Khaliq, a mother of three kids in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district, secured the top position in the 10th Class private board exams.

According to local media reports, Sabrina secured the top position with 93.4% with 467 marks out of 500. She secured A-one grade in Mathematics, Urdu, Science and Social Science.

Paracetamol brand Panadol stops production in Pakistan

A leading multinational pharmaceutical company has stopped the production of its popular paracetamol brand Panadol creating a nationwide shortage.

The company, which has been demanding permission to increase Panadol price, says that production was no longer cost-effective.

Paracetamol, also known as acetaminophen, is a medication used to treat fever and mild to moderate pain.

The widely used brand of paracetamol is in high demand in flood-hit areas where people face a number of diseases. In urban centers, too, the demand has peaked in recent days with a higher number of dengue cases being reported.

Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Association of Pakistan says that the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan had sent a summary to the health ministry recommending an increase of Re1 per tablet, but the federal cabinet rejected the summary.

The association says the manufacturer could sell the medicine at less than the production cost.

The pharmaceutical company says that it produced 450 million tablets monthly and that it has halted the production completely.

Tablets available at a few pharmacies are fake and the DRAP has been duly notified about it.

UN secretary general arrives in Pakistan

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says they’re safe for pregnant and nursing women, as well as babies over two months, though you want lower concentrations of DEET for children.

Just watch out for skin irritation and avoid spraying chemicals around the eyes or mouth. Experts say to concentrate the repellant on your ankles, feet, lower legs, and wrists thin-skinned spots mosquitoes love to bite.

4. Wear light-colored clothing, especially outdoors

7. Try a natural repellent

The synthetic version, which is endorsed by the CDC as a repellent, is available under brand names including Repel, Bug Shield, and Cutter. Every year, Pakistan spends close to $600 million importing about 250 million kilograms of tea. If this trend continues, it will be clear that increasing domestic tea production is becoming increasingly urgent, Paracha warned.

“Because tea planting necessitates a specific climate, we have suitable regions such as Mansehra, Batagram, and Malakand.” In Mansehra, there is an abundance of suitable land for its cultivation.

Paracha noted that the need for a substantial initial investment of both time and money is the primary barrier to entry into the tea industry.

Due to the lengthy five-year production period, local farmers are shifting their focus to more lucrative crops.
