At recent exchange rates, that works out to roughly Rs11,000, although the rupee equivalent will change with the exchange rate.

Do Existing Pakistani Passports Need to Be Replaced?

No.

Pakistanis who already hold a valid Machine Readable Passport (MRP) do not need to replace it immediately.

The missions have confirmed that existing MRPs remain valid until their stated expiry dates.

Applicants have also been advised to seek renewal only when their current passport has less than six months of validity remaining.

First Name and Last Name Are Mandatory

Applicants should also check their personal information before applying.

The latest e-passport requirements state that applicants must have both:

First name

and

Last name

for e-passport issuance.

This is particularly important for people whose existing Pakistani documents contain only a single name.

Pakistan’s Directorate General of Immigration and Passports also lists both first and last names as mandatory for e-passport applications.

What Is a Pakistani E-Passport?

An e-passport contains an embedded electronic chip carrying identity and biometric information.

Pakistan’s Directorate General of Immigration and Passports says the chip stores information including:

  • biometric data;
  • personal information from the passport data page;
  • a unique identification number; and
  • a digital signature.

The passport uses a contactless NFC chip and has been designed to comply with international ICAO standards.

Where Can Pakistanis Apply in the UAE?

Pakistani nationals in the UAE can use passport services through:

Embassy of Pakistan — Abu Dhabi

and

Consulate General of Pakistan — Dubai

The latest announcement applies to passport applications submitted through these missions.

Can Pakistanis Apply for Passports Online?

Pakistan also provides online passport services for overseas Pakistanis.

Applicants should check DGIP’s official online passport services and the relevant Pakistani mission’s instructions before applying, particularly where a renewal can be handled digitally.
