The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has strongly reiterated its stance on Sindh’s water rights under the leadership of Murad Ali Shah. Addressing recent concerns, the Sindh Chief Minister highlighted the province’s growing challenges over equitable water distribution from the Indus River. Shah emphasized that the PPP will not compromise Sindh’s share of water, which he described as critical to the province’s agriculture and economy.
Amid contentious debates over federal projects like new canals on the Indus, Sindh has voiced strong opposition. Shah expressed dissatisfaction with the decisions made by the federal government in the Council of Common Interests (CCI), stating that these plans neglect the needs of downstream provinces and threaten Sindh’s agricultural sustainability. He underscored that any attempts to undermine the Indus River System Authority (IRSA) Act will be resisted with all constitutional measures.
The Sindh government has also called for innovative water management strategies to address long-term shortages while ensuring that existing laws are upheld. In this regard, the PPP is preparing to escalate its concerns to Parliament and, if necessary, pursue legal action. The party remains committed to ensuring that Sindh’s lands do not become barren due to unjust policies.
