The race for promotion in Pakistan’s domestic cricket structure intensified after a thrilling third round of the Gold Tier in the President’s Trophy Grade II tournament, with standout individual performances and dominant team victories reshaping the league standings.
The latest round, played from May 20 to 22, 2026, delivered several decisive results as departmental sides pushed for a coveted place in Grade-I cricket. Teams are now entering the crucial second half of the league phase, where every match could determine promotion hopes.
Much of the attention continues to revolve around Salah Ud Din and Muhammad Tahir of PHA Rawalpindi, whose consistent performances have turned their side into one of the strongest contenders in the competition.
At the National Cricket Ground, PHA Rawalpindi delivered one of the most dominant displays of the tournament by defeating Kingsmen Academy by an innings and 14 runs. Salah Ud Din produced another impressive century, while fast bowler Muhammad Tahir dismantled the opposition batting lineup with a fiery spell.
Meanwhile, Higher Education Commission continued its unbeaten streak after crushing Sardar Group by an innings and 89 runs at the KRL Shoaib Akhtar Stadium. Left-arm spinner Maaz Khurram once again proved decisive with another match-winning bowling performance.
At the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium, Railways secured a tense 37-run victory over Eshaal Associates in a low-scoring encounter dominated by pace bowling. Railways’ disciplined bowling attack successfully defended a modest total on the final afternoon.
Elsewhere, JDW Sugar Mills bounced back strongly with a seven-wicket win over Ahmed Glass at the Railway Cricket Stadium in Haripur. Their batters laid the foundation early before the spin department wrapped up the contest comfortably.
Port Qasim also maintained momentum with a six-wicket victory against Kingsmen at the Diamond Cricket Ground in Islamabad. Batter Hashim Ibrahim anchored the successful chase with another composed innings.
The clash between Ghani Institute and Vital Tea at the Marghazar Cricket Ground ended in a draw after both teams piled up significant totals. Vital Tea secured the first-innings lead, but Ghani Institute’s lower order resisted strongly to save the match.
Individually, Salah Ud Din currently leads the batting charts with 512 runs at an impressive average of 85.33, including two centuries and two half-centuries. Ashir Mehmood and Abdullah Shafique also remain among the top-performing batters of the tournament.
On the bowling side, Muhammad Tahir has emerged as the leading wicket-taker with 19 wickets at an exceptional average of 12.15. Maaz Khurram follows closely with 16 wickets, continuing his outstanding form for HEC.
All-round performances have also played a major role in shaping results this season. Salman Aslam has been instrumental for Railways with both bat and ball, while Aalyan Salman’s consistency continues to boost MTI Solutions.
With several rounds still remaining, the battle for promotion to Grade-I cricket is becoming increasingly intense. Teams now face mounting pressure to maintain consistency as the tournament approaches its decisive stages.
