Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a warning about an intense heatwave expected to impact several parts of Sindh during the Eid ul Azha holidays, with temperatures in some cities likely to approach 50°C.
According to the Met Office, temperatures across Sindh are expected to remain significantly above normal between May 25 and May 31, 2026. Officials stated that daytime temperatures could rise by as much as 4°C to 6°C above seasonal averages during the ongoing weather spell.
The warning comes as large parts of Pakistan continue to experience extreme summer conditions ahead of Eid ul Azha. Meteorologists say the combination of dry weather, hot winds, and high atmospheric pressure is contributing to the rapid increase in temperatures across southern regions.
Several districts in Sindh are expected to remain under severe heat stress, with cities such as Jacobabad, Larkana, Dadu, and Sukkur likely to record dangerously high temperatures during the coming days. In some areas, temperatures could climb close to the 50°C mark.
Health experts have advised citizens to take precautionary measures during the heatwave, particularly during daytime hours when temperatures are expected to peak. Authorities are urging people to avoid unnecessary outdoor exposure, stay hydrated, wear light clothing, and protect children and elderly individuals from prolonged heat exposure.
The extreme weather conditions may also increase the risk of heatstroke, dehydration, and other heat-related illnesses. Medical professionals recommend consuming sufficient fluids and avoiding direct sunlight, especially during afternoon hours.
The severe heatwave is expected to coincide with Eid ul Azha preparations and increased travel activity across the country. Officials have advised livestock traders, transporters, and travelers to remain cautious while working outdoors under intense temperatures.
Authorities may also issue emergency advisories and establish heat relief measures in highly affected districts if temperatures continue to rise beyond expected levels. Local administrations are monitoring the situation closely as weather conditions evolve.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has urged citizens to stay updated through official weather advisories and follow safety guidelines throughout the heatwave period.
