In response to the serious harassment allegations involving students and faculty members at the Islamia University of Bahawalpur, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) has taken decisive action by establishing a Fact-Finding Committee.
The distinguished committee is composed of eminent members, including Professor Dr. Muhammad Ali, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Bahauddin Zakariya University Multan, Lieutenant General (Retd.) Muazzam Ijaz, Rector of the National University of Technology, Professor Dr. Najma Najam, Rector of Noor International University, Lahore, Professor Dr. Tahira Aziz Mughal, Rector of Imperial College of Business Studies, Lahore, and Dr. Mazhar Saeed, Advisor (P&D and Finance), HEC.
All committee members have received official notifications of their appointment, and the terms of reference for the inquiry have been clearly defined.
The primary objective of the committee is to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the allegations. In pursuit of this, the committee will gather information and details from various sources, including print, electronic, and social media, ensuring a comprehensive review of the matter.
Moreover, the committee will closely assess the implementation of the HEC’s policy on sexual harassment within higher education institutions. Any administrative oversights that may have contributed to the occurrence of harassment will be identified, and the committee will provide recommendations for corrective and disciplinary actions.
The HEC has issued a strong appeal to all higher education institutions to fully cooperate with the committee’s inquiry and submit detailed reports within 21 days.
In recognition of their valuable services, the committee members will receive appropriate compensation, with all relevant expenses being borne by the HEC.
