South African batting sensation Dewald Brevis delivered a breathtaking performance in the second T20I against Australia on Tuesday, rewriting multiple records and cementing his place in cricket history.
A Historic Knock in Darwin
Playing at the Marrara Stadium in Darwin, the 22-year-old right-hander produced an unbeaten 125 off just 56 balls, propelling South Africa to a commanding total of 218 runs. His innings featured an explosive mix of 12 boundaries and eight towering sixes, leaving the Australian bowlers struggling for answers.
Brevis reached his hundred in only 41 deliveries, making it the second-fastest century by a South African in T20 internationals. The record remains with David Miller, who reached three figures in just 35 balls.
Youngest South African to Score a T20I Hundred
This remarkable innings also made Brevis the youngest South African ever to score a century in T20Is. The previous record belonged to Richard Levi, who achieved the milestone at the age of 24.
In another milestone, Brevis broke former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis’s long-standing record for the highest individual score in a T20I by a South African. Du Plessis had scored 119 off 56 balls against the West Indies in 2015, a mark that stood for nearly a decade before Brevis surpassed it.
Australia’s Struggle in the Chase
Chasing 219, Australia faced immediate pressure, losing wickets at regular intervals. Tim David provided some resistance with a brisk 50 off 24 balls, but lacked support from the other end. By the 14th over, the hosts had slipped to 129 for 5 and lost the game.
With this innings, Dewald Brevis has not only etched his name in the record books but also given South Africa a strong platform to dominate the series. His fearless batting and ability to handle high-pressure situations have marked him as one of the most exciting young talents in world cricket.
