The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has announced a temporary shutdown of its IRIS platform and allied online services due to scheduled system maintenance. The planned downtime will take place from August 8 to August 10, during which taxpayers will be unable to access the online tax portal or complete digital transactions.
The maintenance exercise is being carried out by Pakistan Revenue Automation Limited (PRAL), the information technology arm of the FBR, as part of efforts to improve the reliability and performance of Pakistan’s digital tax infrastructure.
According to the official schedule, the maintenance work will begin at 12:30 AM on August 8 and continue until 5:00 PM on August 10. Throughout this period, the IRIS platform and related online services will remain unavailable for taxpayers, businesses, tax consultants, and other users.
The FBR has advised taxpayers to plan their activities in advance and complete any urgent filings, submissions, or online tax-related transactions before the maintenance window begins. Doing so can help avoid inconvenience caused by the temporary suspension of services.
The IRIS platform is Pakistan’s primary online tax management system, enabling individuals and businesses to file income tax returns, submit sales tax statements, manage tax profiles, apply for registrations, and access various digital tax services. Because of its central role in tax administration, any planned outage can temporarily affect a large number of users across the country.
PRAL stated that the maintenance is intended to support system upgrades and ensure improved performance, stability, and security of the online platform. Routine maintenance is a common practice for large digital government systems to enhance operational efficiency and reduce the risk of technical issues.
During the scheduled downtime, users will not be able to log into the IRIS portal, submit tax returns, make amendments, upload documents, or complete other online transactions linked to the platform. Access to allied digital services connected with the system will also remain suspended until maintenance work is completed.
The FBR expects all services to resume immediately after the maintenance concludes on August 10 at 5:00 PM, allowing taxpayers to continue their online activities without further interruption.
The announcement comes as Pakistan continues expanding digital public services to improve tax compliance and simplify interactions between taxpayers and government institutions.
