When Boeing 720-B landed at Jinnah International Airport, Karachi on January 2, 1962, it already made a new world record for the fastest flight from London to Karachi.

The plane kept on flying as it was being delivered to Karachi from the Boeing factory in Seattle. In doing so, it had already made a new flying record from Seattle to London.

The Chief Pilot of PIA, Captain Abdullah Baig, and Managing Director, Air Commodore Nur Khan, received a lot of appreciation when they came out of the airplane. Captain Abdullah Baig told the media that they were able to make this record because of the efforts of the whole crew onboard. He also labelled it the best team he has ever had while flying.

The turbofan jet airplane covered the distance between London and Karachi in six hours, 45 minuets and 33 seconds. Costing around $6 million, the aircraft was able to maintain a speed of 583.3 miles/hour.
