Dengue Outbreak Prompts Emergency Measures as Cases Surge

On October 9, 2024, the Pakistani government declared a dengue emergency as cases of the mosquito-borne virus continue to rise at an alarming rate across the country. The Ministry of Health confirmed that several major cities, including Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad, are facing a severe outbreak, with hospitals reporting an overwhelming number of patients.

The government has initiated emergency measures to combat the spread of the virus, including fumigation drives, public awareness campaigns, and increased surveillance of mosquito breeding sites. Schools and public spaces have also been urged to take precautions to prevent further outbreaks.

Health experts warn that the surge in cases could overwhelm the healthcare system if immediate steps are not taken to control the situation. Citizens have been advised to take personal protective measures, such as using mosquito repellent and ensuring that stagnant water is removed from their surroundings. The dengue outbreak has raised concerns about the country’s preparedness to handle public health emergencies.

Shehroze Kashif Becomes Youngest Pakistani to Conquer All 14 Peaks

On October 9, 2024, Shehroze Kashif made history by becoming Pakistan’s youngest mountaineer to successfully summit all 14 of the world’s highest peaks. At the age of 22, Kashif completed his monumental achievement by reaching the summit of Mount Shishapangma in Tibet, marking the end of his quest to conquer the world’s 8,000-meter mountains.

Kashif’s journey has been followed closely by the nation, with many hailing him as a national hero. His accomplishment not only puts Pakistan on the global mountaineering map but also serves as an inspiration to young adventurers across the country. Starting his climbing career at the age of 18, Kashif has consistently pushed the limits of what young climbers can achieve.

The government of Pakistan has recognized his achievement, with plans to honor him upon his return to the country. Kashif’s record-breaking climb underscores the potential of Pakistani athletes on the global stage, as he becomes one of the youngest individuals in the world to complete this daunting feat.

Government to Initiate Crackdown on Petrol Smuggling Across Borders 2024

The Pakistani government has announced a crackdown on the rampant petrol smuggling operations along its borders, following a surge in illegal fuel trade. On October 9, 2024, government officials confirmed that measures are being taken to curb the smuggling of petrol from neighboring countries, which has led to significant revenue losses and created a black market for fuel.

Petrol smuggling has become a major concern, especially along the borders with Iran and Afghanistan, where fuel is often transported illegally into Pakistan and sold at reduced prices. This black market activity has affected legitimate fuel businesses and caused significant losses to the national exchequer.

The crackdown, led by the Ministry of Interior, will involve increased border security, more rigorous checks, and stricter penalties for those involved in fuel smuggling. The government has vowed to tackle this issue head-on, aiming to stabilize the fuel market and ensure fair pricing for consumers.

Petition Filed in IHC to Make Draft Constitutional Amendments Public

In a significant move, a petition was filed in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on October 9, 2024, demanding that the government make the draft of proposed constitutional amendments public. The petition, submitted by a legal activist, calls for transparency in the legislative process and argues that the public has a right to scrutinize any amendments that could alter the country’s constitution.

The move comes amid growing public interest in recent government initiatives to amend certain provisions of the constitution. There have been widespread speculations about changes that could potentially impact the balance of power between the judiciary and the executive. The petitioner contended that any such amendments should undergo public debate before they are finalized.

The Islamabad High Court has yet to set a date for the hearing. This petition adds to the growing pressure on the government to ensure greater transparency in its legislative agenda, especially regarding constitutional changes that could shape Pakistan’s political landscape for years to come.

Amid escalating tensions in Lebanon, a group of Pakistanis evacuated from the region has safely arrived in Karachi. The evacuation, facilitated by the Pakistani government in collaboration with international agencies, came as a response to the worsening security situation in Lebanon. The Pakistani nationals, who were stranded in the country, expressed immense relief upon their return.

On October 9, 2024, the group landed at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi, where they were received by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Pakistani government has been closely monitoring the situation in Lebanon and took swift action to ensure the safety of its citizens. Netanyahu Warns Lebanon: A Chance to Save Lebanon or Face Gaza-Like Destruction

In the harsh warning that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued to Lebanon, saying this may be its future, just like Gaza. However, he said the country still has a chance to save Lebanon from such a dismal fate. In the video message, he addressed the people of Lebanon on October 8, 2024, in which he went on to threaten severe consequences for Lebanon if Hezbollah continues its actions. Netanyahu is encouraging citizens to do something while they still have the chance to save Lebanon from destruction.

Watch the video as Iran rocketed missiles on Israel

In his speech, Netanyahu declared that Israel had already assassinated Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah’s potential successors. He declared that Hezbollah was weaker than it had been in many years and provided Lebanon with a rare chance to save Lebanon from the long and devastating war. He then compared what Gaza is becoming, which has caused more than 41,965 deaths and an almost complete displacement of its approximately 2.3 million residents, to what could become of Lebanon.

Israeli leader noted that the current wave of military strikes on Hezbollah in Lebanon is only part of the larger military campaign mounted by Israel. The latest strikes included an airstrike against Hezbollah commander Hashem Safieddine, who could turn out to be a future Nasrallah. In a bid to intensify cross-border fire between Hezbollah and Israeli forces, Netanyahu threatened that Lebanon could yet suffer more should it fail to act appropriately. But he held out hope for saving Lebanon.

“We have degraded Hezbollah’s capabilities; we took out thousands of them including Nasrallah himself, and Nasrallah’s replacement, and the replacement of his replacement.”

Lebanese authorities have yet to comment on Netanyahu’s statement. Israeli continues razing Hezbollah strongholds in Beirut, particularly Dahiyeh, despite the brutal words of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that one of the world’s most insolent regimes is on the cusp of defeat. The international community is making rounds blasting the increased violence since Lebanon is already suffering due to economic collapse.

This is what Netanyahu said:

“You have an opportunity to save Lebanon before it falls into the abyss of a long war that will lead to destruction and suffering like we see in Gaza.

“I say to you, the people of Lebanon: Free your country from Hezbollah so that this war can end.”

Motorcycle snatching or theft emerged as one of the most common offenses, with the report showing there were 3,982 cases reported during the month.

Figures show that 15,000 mobile phone thefts, and an astonishing 35,000 motorcycle thefts have been reported to authorities during this period. Not forgetting, around 1,200 vehicles have been kidnapped or stolen, making its people feel insecure on the streets.

One of the tragic incidents was recently seen in Korangi, Karachi, when robbers opened fire on Abdul Malik and his son when they returned after withdrawing Rs. 1 million from a bank. Gold price in Pakistan decrease significantly, slashes down by Rs. 1000 per tola

The gold price in Pakistan decreased significantly on Tuesday. The rate of 24-karat went down by Rs. 1,000 per tola. The All Sindh Sarafa Jewellers Association latest update reportedly claimed the price of 24-karat gold per tola was Rs. 274,700, whereas it was at Rs. 275,700 the previous day. Gold prices 24-karat As well, 10 grams of gold lost Rs. 857 in price value as it closed at Rs. 235,511 from the previous one at Rs. 236,368.

22-karat gold in Pakistan today also reported the decline in the rates. The rate of 10 grams of 22-karat gold declined to Rs. 215,885 from Rs. 216,671. This trend, therefore, reflects a price fall for gold in the domestic market and a good scope exists for buyers and investors to acquire gold in relatively lower prices.

Curiously, silver prices even did not change in this period, and no changes occurred. The price of one tola silver remained the same at Rs. 3,050, while 10 grams of silver was sold at a price of Rs. 2,614.88. Silver prices, unlike the gold market, remained stable.

However, on the international front, the latest gold price in Pakistan is seen according to the trends it shows globally, as international gold prices have also gone down. The global gold price dipped by $9 and stood at $2,647 against $2,656 from the previous day. The international dip thus has a direct effect on the local and hence this recent dip in Pakistan’s latest gold price.

On October 7, 2024, the price of gold rose by Rs. 200 per tola in Pakistan. This is how market sentiments are unstable both nationally as well as internationally.

RAW Agent Arrested in Karachi 2024, 8 Oct

On October 8, 2024, Pakistani authorities arrested an alleged agent of India’s Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) in Karachi, marking a significant development in the country’s ongoing efforts to counter foreign espionage. The suspect, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, was reportedly involved in espionage activities and working to undermine Pakistan’s national security. The arrest was made by a joint team of intelligence agencies and law enforcement following a detailed surveillance operation.

The suspect is believed to have been involved in gathering sensitive information related to Pakistan’s defense installations and critical infrastructure in Karachi, one of the country’s most vital urban centers. Initial reports suggest that the RAW agent was also working to incite violence and create unrest in the city by supporting anti-state elements and fostering sectarian conflict.

The arrest has further strained the already tense relations between Pakistan and India. Islamabad has repeatedly accused New Delhi of using RAW to destabilize Pakistan, particularly in regions like Balochistan and Karachi. The arrest is expected to fuel diplomatic tensions, with both countries likely to engage in a war of words over the incident.

This latest development highlights the persistent security challenges Karachi faces, as it remains a key target for both foreign and domestic actors looking to disrupt the city’s stability. Authorities have promised a thorough investigation into the suspect’s activities, with more arrests likely in the coming days as part of a broader crackdown on espionage networks operating within Pakistan

Nation Remembers Victims of October 8, 2005, Deadly Earthquake

On October 8, 2024, Pakistan commemorated the 19th anniversary of the devastating earthquake that struck the northern regions of the country in 2005, claiming more than 80,000 lives and leaving millions homeless. The earthquake, which had a magnitude of 7.6, was one of the deadliest natural disasters in Pakistan’s history, affecting areas in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and northern Punjab.

Memorial services were held across the country to honor the victims and remember the survivors who continue to rebuild their lives nearly two decades later. In Muzaffarabad, the capital of Azad Kashmir and one of the worst-hit areas, officials, survivors, and families of the deceased gathered to offer prayers and reflect on the tragedy. Many still live with the scars of that day, with thousands displaced and entire communities destroyed.

The anniversary also served as a reminder of Pakistan’s ongoing vulnerability to earthquakes and other natural disasters. Despite significant advancements in disaster preparedness, including the establishment of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), many regions remain at risk due to the country’s seismic activity. Experts have called for greater investment in earthquake-resistant infrastructure and more robust disaster response mechanisms to prevent similar levels of devastation in the future.

In schools across the affected regions, students participated in earthquake drills to raise awareness about safety measures during such disasters. The government has reiterated its commitment to improving disaster resilience, particularly in vulnerable areas, though many communities still face challenges in rebuilding even 19 years after the quake

Karachi Temperature Likely to Touch 39 Degrees Today

On October 8, 2024, Karachi residents braced for another sweltering day as the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicted temperatures could soar to 39 degrees Celsius. The ongoing heatwave has affected daily life in the city, with many residents staying indoors to avoid the oppressive heat. Karachi, being a coastal city, often experiences humidity along with high temperatures, making the heat even more unbearable for its over 15 million residents.

The PMD attributes the heatwave to changes in the weather system over the Arabian Sea, with hot, dry winds blowing in from the desert regions of Balochistan. The heatwave has persisted for several days, raising concerns about heat-related illnesses, particularly for vulnerable populations such as children and the elderly. Health experts have urged residents to stay hydrated, avoid direct sunlight, and take precautions to prevent heatstroke.

In response, local authorities have set up cooling centers in various parts of the city and have advised businesses and schools to adjust their working hours to avoid the peak heat during midday. The Sindh Health Department has also issued health advisories, warning people of the dangers of prolonged exposure to the sun.

While heatwaves are not uncommon in Karachi, the city’s growing population and infrastructure challenges have made it increasingly difficult to manage the impacts of extreme weather. Urban planners and environmental experts have called for better heat mitigation strategies, including the creation of more green spaces and the adoption of reflective materials in buildings to reduce the urban heat island effect(

NDMA Issues Advance Cyclonic Storm Alert for Pakistan Coast 1

On October 8, 2024, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) issued an advance alert for a cyclonic storm expected to form in the Arabian Sea, warning coastal regions in Sindh and Balochistan to prepare for possible heavy rainfall and strong winds. The alert comes after the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) detected a low-pressure system that could develop into a tropical cyclone over the next few days. The NDMA has advised local authorities and residents along the coast to take precautionary measures.

Karachi, Pakistan’s largest city, and several coastal towns are on high alert as authorities prepare for possible flooding, strong winds, and high tidal waves. The NDMA has activated emergency response teams and is coordinating with provincial disaster management authorities to ensure the safety of residents in vulnerable areas. Fishermen have been warned not to venture into the sea during this period, as rough seas and heavy rains are expected to accompany the storm.

The warning has also raised concerns about the impact of the storm on infrastructure and livelihoods, particularly in Balochistan’s coastal belt, which is frequently affected by extreme weather events. Local administrations have been instructed to establish relief camps and ensure the availability of essential supplies such as food, water, and medical aid in case of evacuations.

Pakistan’s vulnerability to natural disasters, especially cyclones and monsoon flooding, has increased in recent years due to climate change. Experts have urged the government to invest more in climate-resilient infrastructure and disaster preparedness to mitigate the effects of such extreme weather events. The NDMA’s early warning system is a crucial step in ensuring timely action to minimize potential damag

Four More Polio Cases Reported in Pakistan, Tally Reaches 32

On October 8, 2024, health authorities in Pakistan reported four new cases of polio, raising the total number of confirmed cases this year to 32. The fresh cases were detected in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan provinces, regions that have historically struggled with low vaccination coverage and difficult terrain. The latest cases highlight the ongoing challenge Pakistan faces in eradicating the virus, despite years of concerted efforts from both the government and international health organizations.

The emergence of new polio cases underscores concerns over the effectiveness of the polio vaccination campaigns, which have often been disrupted by security issues, misinformation, and resistance from certain communities. In regions like North Waziristan and parts of KP, vaccination teams have encountered fierce opposition, sometimes even violence, fueled by false rumors about the vaccine’s effects. This has made it difficult for health workers to achieve the required vaccination coverage to halt transmission.

The Pakistani government, in collaboration with global partners like the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF, has redoubled its efforts to combat the spread of the virus. Special immunization drives have been launched in the most affected districts, with a focus on vaccinating children under the age of five. However, the frequent migration of populations due to conflict and displacement has further complicated the eradication efforts.

Despite the challenges, health authorities remain optimistic that with continued vaccination efforts, Pakistan can eliminate polio in the near future. The country is one of only two in the world where the wild poliovirus remains endemic, the other being Afghanistan. Experts have called for greater community engagement and stronger governmental support to reach every child and stop the virus’s transmission

Breakthrough Reported in Government-JUI Talks on Constitutional Amendment 2024

In a surprising development on October 8, 2024, a breakthrough was reported in the ongoing negotiations between the federal government and the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) regarding proposed constitutional amendments. The amendments, which had caused friction between the government and its coalition partner, the JUI, are now reportedly closer to a consensus after weeks of deadlock.

The JUI had expressed reservations about specific clauses within the proposed amendments, particularly those concerning the judiciary and the executive’s power. As one of the government’s key coalition partners, the JUI had the leverage to delay or block the passage of these amendments. However, after intense negotiations, both parties have reportedly reached an understanding, which may allow the proposed changes to move forward.

One of the central sticking points was the role of the judiciary in overseeing government decisions. The JUI, which has a significant conservative support base, was concerned that the amendments could undermine the judiciary’s independence, a key pillar of Pakistan’s constitutional structure. The government, on the other hand, argued that the changes would streamline governance and ensure more efficient decision-making.

Insiders suggest that both sides have now agreed to minor modifications in the language of the amendments, addressing the JUI’s concerns while maintaining the core objectives of the government’s proposal. This breakthrough is seen as a significant step forward in Pakistan’s political landscape, as it allows the ruling coalition to present a united front on crucial legislative issues.

The proposed amendments are expected to be tabled in parliament soon, with political analysts predicting a contentious debate. Opposition parties have already signaled their intention to resist the amendments, viewing them as an overreach by the executive. However, with the JUI now reportedly on board, the government’s chances of passing the amendments have improved.

Proposed Constitutional Amendments Challenged in Pakistan’s Supreme Court 2024

On October 8, 2024, Pakistan’s Supreme Court began hearing multiple petitions challenging the government’s proposed constitutional amendments. The proposed changes have sparked widespread debate, with opposition parties and civil society organizations voicing concerns about their potential impact on democratic processes and the balance of power.

The amendments in question aim to enhance the executive branch’s powers, particularly in matters related to judicial oversight and governance. Critics argue that these changes could undermine judicial independence and weaken checks and balances in the political system. They also believe that the amendments could centralize authority within the federal government, at the expense of provincial autonomy.

Political parties, particularly the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), have raised strong objections, labeling the proposed amendments as unconstitutional. They argue that the government’s move is an attempt to circumvent judicial scrutiny, especially in light of ongoing corruption investigations involving key members of the ruling coalition.

Supporters of the amendments, primarily from the ruling party, contend that the changes are necessary to streamline governance and reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks. They argue that the judiciary has, at times, overstepped its mandate, leading to delays in key government projects and policies. The government maintains that the amendments will improve the efficiency of governance without compromising democratic principles.

The Supreme Court has indicated that it will take a thorough approach in assessing the petitions, given the potential long-term implications for Pakistan’s democratic framework. As the hearing continues, legal experts believe that the court’s ruling could set a precedent for future interactions between the executive and judiciary, and could either uphold or redefine the existing balance of power.

Hezbollah Hits Israeli Intelligence Base Near Tel Aviv with Rocket Salvo 2024

On October 8, 2024, Hezbollah intensified its conflict with Israel by launching a large-scale rocket attack on the Glilot military intelligence base near Tel Aviv. This base houses Unit 8200, Israel’s renowned intelligence division responsible for cyber operations and electronic surveillance. The attack marked a significant escalation in the broader Israel-Lebanon conflict, which has intensified following the Israeli army’s extensive operations in southern Lebanon against Hezbollah.

Hezbollah’s rocket salvo is seen as part of a broader strategy in support of Palestinian resistance, particularly in Gaza, where the Israeli-Palestinian conflict continues to rage. Since Israel launched a full-scale military offensive in response to the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack, Hezbollah has ramped up its military operations, targeting Israeli positions along the border and key military installations. The conflict has expanded from the Gaza Strip into Lebanon, further complicating the region’s geopolitical dynamics.

Israel responded swiftly with airstrikes aimed at Hezbollah’s military infrastructure, including positions in southern Lebanon and the suburbs of Beirut. In retaliation, Hezbollah warned of more attacks on strategic Israeli targets, deepening concerns over a potential full-scale war between the two sides. The United States, a close ally of Israel, has urged restraint, warning Israel against targeting civilian infrastructure in Lebanon, such as Beirut’s international airport.

The conflict has alarmed international observers, as the escalating violence between Israel and Hezbollah risks pulling the region into a larger war, particularly with Iran’s backing of Hezbollah. The situation remains fluid, with further confrontations expected as both sides prepare for prolonged hostilities

PIA’ limited-time offer: Get big discount when visiting this country

Pakistan International Airlines has announced its limited-time offer that will come with a 15% discount on Pakistan-bound flights from Toronto. The offer is open to travelers who purchase tickets before 15 October 2024 and travel up till 20 December 2024. The airline aims to increase travel between Pakistan and Canada, thus supporting both tourists in saving money from the rising costs.

This reflects a more general thrust to promote international travel and tourism for the benefit of the masses. The airline, hence, is interested in offering cheaper fares and in pursuing and taking chances to strengthen the links between two countries.

In other developments, the privatization process of PIA is delayed as requests for more information were made by potential bidders. Thus, the deadline has been pushed further back to October 31, 2024 for the privatization bids.

The officials tasked to handle the case, with key discussions reportedly carried out during the recent Senate Standing Committee on Privatization, reaffirmed on-going problems including some legacy liabilities and negotiations with bidders. The chairperson had informed regarding the delays but remains upbeat about positive results as she was able to set an optimistic goal to conclude privatization as per the assigned schedule.

In a nutshell, PIA’s future seems to be at crossroads because the airline seems to be torn between its perceived capability to provide competitive services while trying to grapple through confusing privatization efforts.

The operation, carried out in collaboration with local law enforcement agencies, targeted a known militant hideout after weeks of surveillance and intelligence gathering.

The Fitna al-Khawarij group, which has been linked to multiple terrorist activities in the region, was planning another major attack, according to security sources. The operation resulted in the seizure of a significant cache of arms and explosives, further disrupting the group’s capabilities. Officials have hailed the operation as a major success in the ongoing fight against terrorism, reaffirming the state’s commitment to eliminating extremist elements from the country.

Residents of the area expressed relief, as Mianwali has seen a resurgence of militant activity in recent months.
