Petroleum Product Prices to Remain the Same Until January 31st – Statement by Minister Dar

In a recent statement, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Resources, Dar, announced that prices of petroleum products will remain unchanged until January 31st. This decision was made after a thorough review of the current market conditions and in an effort to provide relief to the general public.

Petroleum products such as gasoline, diesel, and kerosene are essential for the smooth functioning of the economy and are widely used in transportation, agriculture, and industry. The prices of these products have a direct impact on the cost of living and the overall inflation rate.

The decision to keep prices unchanged is a welcome relief for consumers who have been facing rising costs due to inflation and the devaluation of the currency. It will also provide some stability to the market, allowing businesses to plan and operate more efficiently.

However, it is important to note that this decision is a temporary measure and that prices may be reviewed again in the future. The government will continue to monitor the market conditions and take necessary steps to keep prices under control.

In the meantime, the government is also taking steps to promote the use of alternative energy sources such as electric vehicles and renewable energy. This will not only help to reduce dependence on fossil fuels but also lead to a reduction in pollution and a more sustainable future.

Overall, the decision to keep petroleum product prices unchanged until January 31st is a step in the right direction and will provide much-needed relief to consumers and businesses alike. It is important for the government to continue to monitor the market conditions and take necessary steps to keep prices under control and promote sustainable development.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a warning that the ongoing cold wave in Karachi is expected to intensify tonight and continue till January 16th. The temperature is likely to drop to as low as 5-3 degrees Celsius during this period.

In addition, the PMD stated that snowfall has stopped in Muree, but the intensity of the weather remains the same and residents are facing inconvenience due to freezing water in pipelines.

In Punjab, the M2 Motorway has been closed for traffic between Lahore and Khanqah Dogran due to thick fog in the area. The motorway police have also closed traffic from Faizpur to Jaranwala and M11 from Lahore to Sambaryal.

The PMD’s weekly weather outlook predicts that cold and dry weather will continue in most parts of the country, with foggy and snowy weather in specific areas. The outlook states that “Mainly cold and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country, while very cold in upper parts and north Balochistan. Frost is likely in Pothohar region, Kashmir and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during morning hours. Foggy condition is likely in upper Sindh, Punjab and plain areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.”

This current spell of chilly weather in Karachi and Sindh is due to a westerly system that entered the province via Balochistan, according to the PMD. The department forecasts cold and dry weather to continue in most parts of the country and cloudy weather in western and upper districts.

Pak Suzuki Motor Company (PSMC), one of the country’s largest car manufacturers, once again extended its closure till January 20 owing to inventory shortages.

The production activities of the automobile company have remained suspended for most days since the start of the new year, blaming a dearth of imported parts and accessories, as banks are rejecting or retiring letters of credit (LCs) amid US dollar scarcity, exchange rate crisis, and fast-depleting foreign reserves of the country.

“Due to continued shortage of inventory level, the management of the company has decided to extend the shutdown of automobile plant from January 16, 2023 to January 20, 2023,” PSMC stated in an announcement to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX).

However, the motorcycle plant would remain operative, it added.

SECP Issues Directive for Islamic Financial Institutions to Establish Shariah Compliance Units

The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) has recently issued a directive for all Islamic financial institutions to establish Shariah compliance units within their organizations. The purpose of these units is to ensure that all financial products and services offered by these institutions comply with the principles of Islamic law, also known as Shariah.

Islamic finance is based on the principles of risk sharing and prohibits the charging of interest, which is considered to be against the principles of Shariah. Instead, Islamic financial institutions offer products such as profit and loss sharing, mudharabah, and murabahah. These products are designed to align the interests of the institution and the customer, and to promote ethical and responsible financial practices.

The establishment of Shariah compliance units is seen as a crucial step in ensuring that Islamic financial institutions operate in accordance with the principles of Shariah. These units will be responsible for reviewing and approving all financial products and services offered by the institution, as well as ensuring that all transactions are conducted in a manner that is compliant with Shariah.

The SECP has also issued guidelines for the operation of these units, which include the appointment of a qualified Shariah scholar as the head of the unit, and the development of internal policies and procedures to ensure compliance with Shariah. The SECP will also conduct regular inspections of these units to ensure that they are operating in accordance with the guidelines.

The establishment of Shariah compliance units is a positive development for the Islamic finance industry in Pakistan, as it will help to ensure that all financial products and services offered by these institutions are in compliance with the principles of Shariah. This will not only enhance the reputation of the industry but also foster trust of public in the Islamic finance institutions.

In addition, it will also help to promote ethical and responsible financial practices and will encourage more people to consider Islamic finance as an alternative to conventional banking. As the industry continues to grow and evolve, the establishment of Shariah compliance units will become increasingly important in ensuring that Islamic finance remains true to its principles and continues to serve the needs of the community.

Overall, the SECP’s directive for Islamic financial institutions to establish Shariah compliance units is a step in the right direction towards ensuring that the Islamic finance industry in Pakistan remains compliant with the principles of Shariah and operates in an ethical and responsible manner. This move will further strengthen the industry and also attract more investors to invest in the sector.

Pakistan to hold first-ever digital census in 2023

Pakistan's first-ever digital census

In 76 years of independence from the British regime, Pakistan never witnessed a digital census, even though many developing and underdeveloped countries consider the medium potent enough to conduct the census. However, Pakistan will take another step toward strengthening its digital facet by hosting the first-ever digital census.

Pakistan’s 2023 census will be a 40-point questionnaire covering eight crucial areas. Since all the preparations are down and dusted, the relevant authorities are rolling over to perform the task. The indigenous efforts will be carried through devised systems and the tools created by Pakistan’s local experts.

According to Chief Statistician Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) Dr Naeem Uz Zafar, who was conducting a seminar at Pakistan Institute of Development Economics Islamabad, “census is an important national activity that is linked with resource allocation to provinces, representation in National/Provincial assemblies, and the delimitation process. Therefore, the credibility of the census is of utmost importance.”

The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics is set to conduct the country’s first-ever digital census in March 2023. The census will collect data from 185,000 blocks and will not require Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs) for verification purposes. The 40-point questionnaire will include information on households, basic amenities, demography, education, health, employment, disability, and migration.

Chief Statistician of the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, Dr. Naeem Uz Zafar, has said that all preparations for the census are complete and that the effort is entirely indigenous, with systems and tools being developed by Pakistani experts. The census is being conducted in accordance with international best practices and with the latest technology.

The census is being conducted simultaneously and in the shortest possible time, with the goal of counting the entire population residing in Pakistan at the time of the census, regardless of whether they hold a CNIC or not. The census is intended to be used for policy and planning, and stakeholders are encouraged to participate in the process.

The government of Punjab, Pakistan has recently announced a new dress code for students in the province. The new dress code is aimed at promoting a sense of discipline and respect among students, as well as creating a more professional and formal learning environment.

The dress code for male students includes a white shirt, black trousers and black shoes. Male students are also required to have a properly groomed hair and a clean-shaven face. Female students are required to wear a white shalwar kameez, dupatta and black shoes. Female students are also required to have a proper hairstyle and minimal makeup.

The new dress code is mandatory for all students in government schools and colleges, as well as for students in private institutions who are receiving government scholarships. The government has stated that the dress code will be strictly enforced and that students who do not adhere to the dress code will not be allowed to attend classes.

The new dress code has been met with mixed reactions from students, parents, and educators. Some have applauded the move as a positive step towards creating a more professional and disciplined learning environment. They argue that the dress code will help students take their studies more seriously and create a more focused and productive learning atmosphere.

On the other hand, some have criticized the new dress code, arguing that it is overly restrictive and takes away from students’ freedom of expression. They argue that the dress code is unnecessary and that students should be allowed to dress as they please, as long as they are not disrupting the learning environment.

Overall, the introduction of the new dress code by the government of Punjab is a significant step in promoting a sense of discipline and respect among students. It is important to note that it’s not only about the dress code but also the overall atmosphere that is created in the school. The dress code is just one aspect of creating a positive and productive learning environment, and it should be implemented in conjunction with other measures such as teacher training and parental involvement.

350,000 Tonnes of Wheat Imported from Russia and Other Countries Arrive in Karachi

The recent arrival of 350,000 tonnes of wheat in Karachi, Pakistan, imported from Russia and other countries, is an important development in the country’s ongoing efforts to stabilize its domestic food supply. Wheat is a staple food in Pakistan and plays a crucial role in the country’s agriculture sector. The large influx of wheat will likely have a positive impact on the market, helping to keep prices stable and ensuring that there is enough wheat available to meet the needs of the population.

One of the key reasons for importing such a large quantity of wheat is the current shortfall in domestic production. Pakistan has been facing a decline in its wheat production in recent years due to various factors such as a lack of investment in the agricultural sector, water scarcity, and an increasing population.

The importation of wheat from Russia, which is one of the largest wheat-producing countries in the world, is also a significant development in terms of international trade relations between the two countries. Russia is a major wheat exporter, and Pakistan is one of the world’s largest wheat-importing countries, so this trade has the potential to be mutually beneficial for both countries.

This importation of wheat would also boost the economy of Pakistan. As the country’s agriculture sector is a major source of income and employment, the influx of wheat is expected to have a positive impact on the overall economy. This includes boosting the livelihoods of farmers and other stakeholders in the agricultural sector, as well as stimulating economic activity in related industries such as transportation and storage.

Furthermore, this importation can also be seen as a measure of food security for the country. By diversifying its sources of food imports, Pakistan is better able to ensure that its people have a stable and reliable supply of this essential staple food.

However, it also important to mention that a large importation of wheat can also have negative impacts. One of them could be on the local farmers, whose market could be affected by cheaper prices due to the influx of wheat. Additionally, too much importation of wheat can also cause food self-sufficiency to decrease and make the country more dependent on other countries for food.

In conclusion, the recent arrival of 350,000 tonnes of wheat in Karachi, imported from Russia and other countries, is an important development for Pakistan’s food security and economy. While the influx of wheat will likely have a positive impact on the market, it also brings up important considerations such as food self-sufficiency and the well-being of local farmers.

UN Demands Increased Aid for Flood-Damaged Pakistan.

The United Nations has made a strong appeal for increased aid to help rebuild and support flood-damaged Pakistan. The country has been hit hard by devastating floods in recent years, with extensive damage to infrastructure, homes, and crops. The floods have also had a major impact on the economy, with many people losing their livelihoods and being forced to rely on aid to survive.

The UN has called on the international community to provide “massive” aid to help Pakistan recover from the floods and rebuild for the future. This includes financial assistance, as well as resources such as food, clean water, and medical supplies. It is also crucial that long-term support is provided to help communities and individuals get back on their feet and rebuild their lives.

The floods in Pakistan have had a particularly severe impact on vulnerable communities, including women and children. Many have been left without access to basic necessities such as shelter, food, and clean water, and are at risk of disease and malnutrition. The UN has stressed the importance of providing targeted aid to these groups, in order to ensure that they are able to recover and thrive in the aftermath of the floods.

In addition to providing immediate aid, the UN has also called for efforts to be made to address the root causes of the floods and prevent future disasters. This includes investing in infrastructure and early warning systems, as well as promoting sustainable land use practices that can help to reduce the risk of flooding.

The UN’s call for increased aid to flood-damaged Pakistan highlights the need for a coordinated and comprehensive response to this crisis. By working together, the international community can help to provide much-needed support to those affected by the floods, and lay the foundations for a stronger and more resilient Pakistan in the future. So, it is our moral duty to extend a helping hand to our brothers and sisters in Pakistan and make this world a better place to live.

Pakistan’s economic crisis forces malls and markets to close early

Pakistan has been facing an economic crisis in recent years, which has led to a number of malls and markets closing early or shutting down completely. This has had a major impact on the country’s economy and has led to widespread unemployment and financial hardship for many people.

One of the main causes of the crisis has been the country’s high level of debt, which has made it difficult for the government to borrow money and invest in infrastructure and other development projects. The country’s currency, the Pakistani rupee, has also suffered from significant devaluation in recent years, which has made it more difficult for businesses to import goods and materials.

The economic crisis has also been exacerbated by a number of other factors, including a lack of foreign investment, corruption, and a poor business environment. These issues have made it difficult for businesses to thrive and have contributed to the closure of many malls and markets.

The impact of the economic crisis on malls and markets has been particularly severe, as these businesses rely on a steady stream of customers to survive. Many malls and markets have been forced to close early or shut down completely due to a lack of foot traffic and sales, which has had a knock-on effect on other businesses in the area.

The closure of malls and markets has had a major impact on the economy as a whole, as these businesses are major contributors to the country’s GDP and provide employment for a large number of people. The economic crisis has also led to a decline in the overall standard of living in Pakistan, as people struggle to afford basic necessities and make ends meet.

In conclusion, Pakistan’s economic crisis has had a major impact on the country’s malls and markets, leading to a number of closures and contributing to the country’s overall economic struggles. It is important for the government and other stakeholders to work together to address the root causes of the crisis and implement measures to support businesses and stimulate economic growth.
