Pakistan Railways (PR) has enhanced the passenger insurance coverage from Rs. 1.5 million to Rs. 2.5 million, according to the latest media disclosure.

As per the most recent report, the families of the passengers who tragically lost their lives in the recent train accident will be entitled to receive Rs. 2.5 million in compensation. In the unfortunate event of disability, insurance coverage of Rs. 300,000 will be provided to the affected individuals.

A collaborative effort between PR and the State Life Insurance Corporation has led to the agreement to elevate the insurance coverage amount. During the signing ceremony, Minister for Railways Khawaja Safiq Rafiq participated via video link.

The minister has provided directives to PR executives, urging them to personally visit the homes of the passengers who lost their lives in the Nawabshah tragedy. This initiative aims to accurately identify and reach the deserving beneficiaries of the insurance.

Emphasizing prompt action, the minister has instructed for swift delivery of compensation checks to the homes of the deceased and those who have been disabled. He has also emphasized the importance of providing compensation within the confines of their residences.

The tragic incident occurred when the Hazara Express derailed around 275 kilometers away from Karachi. Approximately 10 coaches went off the tracks, resulting in significant loss of lives and injuries, as reported by news sources.
