Amid the backdrop of a challenging financial crisis, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has taken an unexpected step to benefit Umrah pilgrims. The national flag carrier has announced a significant reduction of Rs.7000 in Umrah ticket prices, reflecting its commitment to facilitating religious travelers.
The revised rates are applicable to two-way Umrah fares from multiple cities in Pakistan to Jeddah. For travelers departing from Lahore, Islamabad, Sialkot, Peshawar, Multan, and Faisalabad, the new cost, including tax, now stands at Rs. 87,000. Meanwhile, passengers traveling from Karachi and Quetta to Jeddah will find their two-way ticket priced at Rs. 79,000.
These price adjustments come into immediate effect, offering considerable relief to those embarking on the sacred journey of Umrah. The move to reduce ticket prices is part of PIA’s ongoing efforts to assist Umrah pilgrims, demonstrating their commitment to providing affordable and accessible travel options.
In recent times, PIA faced substantial challenges due to issues with fuel supply, leading to the cancellation of numerous flights. The state-owned airline reportedly incurred losses exceeding Rs. 6 billion during this period and even refunded approximately Rs. 50 million to affected passengers. The financial turmoil was exacerbated by various external factors, making it a particularly trying period for the airline.
Despite these setbacks, PIA is determined to recover swiftly and fully restore its flight operations. To facilitate this recovery, the airline reportedly made a payment of Rs. 500 million to Pakistan State Oil (PSO), addressing part of its outstanding dues. Going forward, PIA will manage its flight operations based on the availability of fuel, ensuring a more stable and efficient service for its passengers.
The decision to reduce Umrah ticket prices is undoubtedly a welcome relief for travelers and reflects PIA’s commitment to serving the needs of the community, even during challenging times. The airline aims to strike a balance between financial stability and passenger convenience as it moves towards the restoration of its regular flight services.
