Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif is set to distribute laptops and Honhaar scholarships to students from Attock and Rawalpindi during a major education event in Attock on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
The ceremony will be held at COMSATS University Attock, according to Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat.
The chief minister’s visit will also include the inauguration of new IT laboratories, the launch of BS degree programmes at colleges in Attock and the provision of pink buses for students.
Laptops and Honhaar Scholarships for Attock and Rawalpindi Students
Students belonging to:
Attock
and
Rawalpindi
will receive laptops and scholarships during the COMSATS University ceremony.
The event forms part of Punjab’s wider laptop and Honhaar Scholarship distribution programme being rolled out across the province.
The Punjab government previously announced plans to hold distribution ceremonies across all nine divisions during October and November 2026. Earlier events covered students from districts including Sahiwal, Okara and Pakpattan.
Ceremony at COMSATS University Attock
The November 3 event will take place at:
COMSATS University Islamabad — Attock Campus
with Maryam Nawaz expected to formally distribute laptops and Honhaar scholarships among selected students.
The latest announcement does not specify the exact number of laptops or scholarships that will be distributed during the Attock ceremony.
Students should therefore avoid assuming that every attendee or every student from the two districts will automatically receive a laptop.
Selection remains subject to the relevant scheme’s eligibility and merit criteria.
Four New IT Labs in Attock Colleges
During the visit, the chief minister is also expected to inaugurate state-of-the-art IT laboratories at four colleges in Attock district.
The initiative is part of Punjab’s broader effort to expand access to digital learning and modern technology in public educational institutions.
Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat had earlier announced a wider education package for Attock that included upgrades to IT laboratories in schools and colleges across the district.
That earlier package included plans to introduce students to areas such as:
- artificial intelligence;
- freelancing;
- data analysis;
- robotics; and
- other emerging technologies.
New BS Degree Programmes in Attock
Maryam Nawaz is also expected to launch new Bachelor of Science degree programmes at different colleges in Attock.
The move is intended to expand higher-education options for students who currently have to travel to other cities for certain undergraduate programmes.
The exact subjects and colleges included in the latest BS programme expansion have not yet been detailed in the announcement.
Students interested in admission should wait for the individual colleges or Punjab Higher Education Department to publish programme-specific eligibility and admission schedules.
Pink Buses for Degree Colleges
The Punjab government will also provide pink buses to different degree colleges in Attock.
These buses are intended primarily to improve transport facilities for students, particularly female students travelling to and from colleges.
Transport support for female students has been part of Punjab’s wider education strategy.
Earlier government plans included providing buses to girls’ colleges across the province, while an August education package for Attock also referred to five Pink Buses for girls’ colleges in the district.
Punjab Laptop Scheme Eligibility
The Punjab government’s previously announced laptop criteria included merit-based selection for students.
Earlier criteria included minimum intermediate marks of:
65% for BS students
and
80% for medical students
for the relevant phase of the laptop programme.
However, students attending the Attock ceremony should rely on their institution and the current official merit list because eligibility rules can differ by phase, institution and programme.
The November 3 announcement does not introduce a new public application process.
Honhaar Scholarship Programme
The Honhaar Scholarship Programme is one of the Punjab government’s major higher-education support initiatives.
The programme provides financial assistance to eligible students based on the applicable merit and programme criteria.
Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat said earlier this year that more than 100,000 students had benefited from the Honhaar Scholarship Programme.
The scholarship distribution in Attock and Rawalpindi represents another stage in the province-wide rollout.
Can Students Apply Now for These Laptops?
The latest announcement concerns distribution to selected students, rather than the opening of a new general registration window.
Students should therefore distinguish between:
a distribution ceremony
and
a new application phase.
Anyone claiming that all students can register specifically for the November 3 Attock event through an unofficial form should be treated with caution.
Students should rely on:
- their university or college;
- Punjab Higher Education Department;
- the official laptop scheme portal where applicable; and
- verified Punjab government announcements.
What Will Maryam Nawaz Launch in Attock?
The November 3 education visit is expected to include:
- laptop distribution;
- Honhaar scholarship distribution;
- four new IT laboratories;
- new BS programmes at colleges; and
- pink buses for degree colleges.
This makes the visit broader than a laptop-distribution ceremony alone.
