Germany has increased the number of student visas being issued to Pakistani applicants as demand for higher education in the country continues to rise.
German Ambassador to Pakistan Dr. Ina Lepel confirmed the development while speaking at the National Press Club in Islamabad during its “Meet the Press” programme.
Rising Demand Causes Processing Delays
The ambassador said a large number of Pakistani students are applying to study in Germany, which has sometimes resulted in longer visa-processing times.
She added that German authorities are working to simplify procedures and improve processing efficiency.
However, no exact number of additional visas, annual quota or new processing timeline was announced.
Germany Remains Popular With Pakistani Students
Dr. Lepel described Germany as one of the preferred destinations for Pakistani students because of its universities, research opportunities and academic environment.
The increase in visa issuance comes amid growing interest from Pakistani students in German bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral programmes.
Students should note that the announcement does not change existing visa eligibility requirements or guarantee approval. Applicants must still meet the applicable admission, financial, documentation and visa conditions.
Germany Wants Stronger Pakistan Ties
During the same discussion, the ambassador also called for greater trade, investment and economic cooperation between Pakistan and Germany, saying bilateral trade had not grown as much as its potential.
For Pakistani students, however, the main development is positive: Germany says it is issuing more student visas while also working to address delays caused by increasing application volumes.
