Relief for Pakistanis as Government Unveils Latest Petrol Price, High-Speed Diesel Rates

Consumers will feel some relief at the pumps this fortnight as the federal government confirmed a significant cut in high-speed diesel rates while leaving the latest petrol price unchanged. Effective from August 16, the adjustments will apply for the next 15 days and are part of the regular fortnightly review of petroleum product rates.

The new price of high-speed diesel now stands at Rs272.99 per litre, reflecting a drop of Rs12.84 from the previous Rs285.83. Diesel is critical to Pakistan’s transport and agriculture sectors, powering everything from freight trucks to farm machinery, so the cut is expected to have a wider impact on logistics and food supply costs.

In contrast, the latest petrol price remains fixed at Rs264.61 per litre. Petrol is the most widely used fuel in urban mobility, particularly for motorcycles, cars, and rickshaws, meaning the lack of change will keep daily commuting expenses stable for the time being.

Other Fuels See Price Adjustments

While the spotlight is on diesel, the government has also reduced prices for other petroleum products. Superior kerosene oil has dropped by Rs7.19, now costing Rs178.27 per litre compared to the previous Rs185.46. Light diesel oil has seen an even steeper cut of Rs8.20, bringing its rate down to Rs162.37 from Rs170.36.

These changes come after recommendations from the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) and consultations with relevant ministries. The Finance Division said the revised prices reflect fluctuations in the global oil market, with international rates softening in recent weeks.

Market analysts note that while diesel’s price cut could ease inflationary pressure on goods transport, the unchanged petrol cost suggests the government is treading carefully, balancing consumer relief against fiscal constraints.

Impact on Households and Economy

Petrol prices directly affect the cost of living for lower- and middle-income households, as well as small businesses dependent on daily commuting. The stability in the latest petrol price means no immediate surge in personal transport costs, but families may still benefit indirectly from lower diesel-powered transportation expenses on essential goods.

For farmers, cheaper diesel could translate into reduced operational costs for tractors, tube wells, and harvesters, especially critical during peak agricultural activity. Businesses reliant on heavy transport, meanwhile, are expected to see modest savings that could be passed down the supply chain.

The new rates will remain in force until the next review at the end of August, when further adjustments could be announced based on global oil market trends.

Mahnoor Cheema: Setting New Global Records in A-Level Examinations

Mahnoor Cheema, a remarkable British student of Pakistani origin, has made headlines around the world by achieving an unprecedented 24 A grades in her A-Level examinations. This extraordinary academic performance sets a new global benchmark, marking the highest number of A-Level A grades ever awarded to a single student. Her journey and achievements are not just a personal triumph, but also serve as an inspiration for students everywhere, highlighting the power of dedication, hard work, and ambition.

A Trailblazer in Academic Excellence

Mahnoor’s academic journey has been marked by consistent brilliance. In addition to her record-breaking A-Level results, Mahnoor also set another remarkable milestone earlier in 2023. She successfully passed a total of 34 subjects at the General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) level—another record-setting accomplishment, not just in the United Kingdom, but internationally. At just Year 10, Mahnoor passed 17 subjects with A* grades as a private candidate. She then took on another 17 subjects, bringing her total GCSE passes to an extraordinary 34. This achievement showcases not only her academic prowess but also her passion for learning across a wide range of disciplines.

A Dream Realized: Admission to Oxford University

Mahnoor Cheema’s historic achievements have earned her a coveted place at Exeter College, University of Oxford, where she is set to begin her journey as a medicine student in October. For Mahnoor, being offered admission to one of the world’s leading universities is, as she puts it, “a dream come true.” Her acceptance into such a prestigious institution is a testament to her resilience, intellect, and dedication, especially in fields that demand both excellence and commitment.

A Family and Community Inspired

The pride in Mahnoor’s achievements extends beyond her immediate family. Her father, Barrister Usman Cheema, has been vocal in praising her relentless hard work and unwavering passion for education. He emphasized that Mahnoor’s accomplishment is not just a personal milestone but also a beacon of inspiration for aspiring students worldwide. Her feat sets not just one, but four new world records, reinforcing her status as an international academic trailblazer. The support and encouragement from her family have played a key role in nurturing her academic journey, enabling Mahnoor to pursue her goals fearlessly.

Shining Amid Rising A-Level Standards

Mahnoor’s success comes at a time when A-Level results across the United Kingdom are showing an upward trend. According to the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ), 28.3% of A-level entries in the UK were awarded an A or A* grade this year, up from 27.8% the previous year. Despite this overall improvement, exam boards have also highlighted persistent regional inequalities, suggesting that not all students have equal access to the highest academic outcomes. Against this backdrop, Mahnoor’s achievement stands out even more distinctly, as she raises the bar for excellence and demonstrates what can be accomplished through perseverance and determination.

Record University Admissions and Changing Academic Landscape

This year has also seen universities in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland accept a record number of students onto degree courses, including A-level, T-level, and BTec graduates. The increase in top grades has allowed more students to pursue higher education opportunities. However, Mahnoor’s individual performance remains a standout, reflecting not just personal brilliance but also the ongoing evolution of the academic landscape in the UK and beyond.

A Role Model for Future Generations

Mahnoor Cheema’s journey is a story of ambition, hard work, and breaking new ground. From her record-breaking GCSE performance to her unprecedented A-Level success, she continues to inspire countless young people in the UK, Pakistan, and around the globe. Her next chapter at Oxford University promises to be just as groundbreaking as her academic accomplishments so far, marking her as a role model for future generations of scholars and dreamers.

Chinas New K Visa: A Gateway for Pakistani STEM Talent

China has unveiled a new K visa aimed at attracting young international talent in the fields of science and technology. This initiative holds significant promise for Pakistani graduates, researchers, and professionals, opening up new opportunities for education, research, and collaboration in one of the world’s fastest-growing innovation hubs. As Pakistan continues to nurture its science and technology sector, the K visa presents a unique pathway for the country’s young talent to gain global exposure and experience.

What is the K Visa?

The K visa is a newly introduced category specifically designed for those in the STEM fields—science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. It caters to young professionals holding a bachelor’s degree or above from prestigious universities or research institutions. The visa is also available to individuals involved in education or research at leading institutions, making it attractive to both recent graduates and early-career researchers.

Unlike many traditional work or student visas, the K visa does not require applicants to have a job offer or invitation from a Chinese employer. This flexibility makes it accessible to a broader range of applicants, especially those seeking to explore opportunities or build networks before settling on a specific role or institution in China.

Opportunities for K Visa Holders

Holders of the K visa are permitted to participate in a variety of activities in China, including education, scientific research, technological development, and cultural exchanges. The visa offers several advantages over other Chinese visas, such as easier entry, a streamlined application process, longer validity, and the possibility of extended stays. This means that Pakistani scholars and professionals can spend more time in China, immersing themselves in its research environments, building professional networks, and contributing to joint projects.

The convenience and flexibility associated with the K visa are expected to make China a more attractive destination for young Pakistani talent. The opportunity to gain hands-on experience and collaborate with leading scientists and engineers can drive innovation and bring valuable knowledge back to Pakistan’s developing STEM sectors.

Why the K Visa Matters for Pakistan

For Pakistan, the introduction of China’s K visa is especially significant. Many Pakistani graduates in STEM fields face limited local opportunities for advanced research or high-tech employment. The K visa allows them to seek experience abroad without the traditional requirement of securing a job in advance. This opens doors for postgraduate scholars, recent university graduates, and early-career researchers to work, study, and collaborate in China’s world-class institutions.

Moreover, by enabling more Pakistani students and professionals to live and work in China, the K visa will deepen academic and research ties between the two countries. This can foster joint projects, cross-border innovation, and knowledge transfer, all of which are crucial for Pakistan’s own technological advancement.

Who is Eligible for the K Visa?

Eligibility for the K visa is centered on youth, education, and professional experience. Applicants should be young professionals working in STEM, holding at least a bachelor’s degree from a recognized prestigious institution. The absence of a job offer or invitation requirement ensures that talented individuals can apply based on their qualifications and aspirations, rather than existing employment ties. Age, educational background, and relevant research or work experience are considered in the selection process.

Application Process and Support

China is planning a streamlined application process for the K visa, making it efficient for eligible candidates. The Foreign Ministry, Public Security organs, and overseas Chinese embassies and consulates will manage the issuance, extension, renewal, and replacement of K visas. Additional support will be provided for K visa holders regarding residence and stay, helping them settle and integrate smoothly into Chinese society and institutions.

Currently, China has 12 main types of visas, including L for tourism, D for permanent residence, and G for transit. The K visa, effective from 1 October 2025, stands out as a targeted effort to attract global STEM talent and foster international collaboration, with a particular benefit for countries like Pakistan seeking to propel their science and technology sectors forward.

Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA): Nationwide Observance in Pakistan

The Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and the martyrs of Karbala is being observed across Pakistan today (Friday) with deep religious devotion and reverence. This day, marking the 40th day after the tragic events of Karbala, holds immense significance for millions of Muslims, particularly those belonging to the Shia community. It is a time for collective mourning, reflection, and renewed commitment to the values embodied by Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions.

Commemorative Processions: Traditions and Rituals

Throughout the country, cities and towns are witnessing processions featuring Alam (religious standards) and Zuljinah (symbolic representation of Imam Hussain’s horse). These processions are accompanied by the recitation of elegies (noha khwani) and matam (ritual mourning), as participants pay tribute to the enduring sacrifice made by the martyrs of Karbala. The atmosphere is marked by solemnity and unity, as mourners recall the historic events that continue to inspire courage, steadfastness, and justice.

Security Measures in Karachi

In Karachi, the central Chehlum procession is scheduled to emerge from Nishtar Park at 1 PM, moving along the traditional route on MA Jinnah Road. To ensure the safety and security of participants, comprehensive arrangements have been implemented by law enforcement agencies. Containers have been strategically placed to block adjoining streets, preventing unauthorized access and enhancing control over the procession’s route. Additionally, the Bomb Disposal Unit has conducted thorough searches and sealed markets along the route to eliminate any security risks. Over 4,000 police personnel are on ground duty, and Section 144—which prohibits public gatherings and the carrying of weapons—remains in force. Furthermore, mobile phone services will be partially suspended along the procession route as an added precaution against possible threats.

Chehlum Observance in Lahore

Lahore is also seeing significant activity as the main Chehlum procession commences from Haveli Alaf Shah, Delhi Gate, culminating at Karbala Gamay Shah. The procession traverses the historic and traditional routes, gathering thousands of mourners who participate in rituals of remembrance and solidarity. Across Punjab province, a total of 382 processions and congregations are being secured by the deployment of approximately 30,000 police officers. In Lahore alone, over 5,000 officers, led by 12 Superintendents of Police (SPs), are supervising security operations. Special attention is being given to 40 majalis (gatherings) and 12 azadari processions, with multiple layers of protection and vigilance in place to prevent any untoward incidents.

Chehlum Processions in Peshawar

Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, will witness two major Zuljinah processions this year. One will commence from Imambargah Akhundabad at 3 PM, while the other will emerge from Jamia Masjid Kocha Risaldar at the same time. Prior to the processions, a majlis is scheduled at Imambargah Alamdar Karbala at noon, where mourners will gather to listen to sermons and pay their respects. Both processions will conclude at their respective Imambargahs under a strict security cover, reflecting the authorities’ commitment to ensuring a safe environment for religious expression and commemoration.

Widespread Devotion, Heightened Vigilance

Across Pakistan, the observance of Chehlum is marked not only by religious fervor but also by a sense of caution and collective responsibility. Local administrations and law enforcement agencies are working closely with community leaders to coordinate processions, secure congregation sites, and maintain public order. The spirit of unity and remembrance that characterizes Chehlum serves as a powerful reminder of the values of sacrifice, faith, and resilience that continue to shape the nation’s collective conscience.

Egyptian Doctors Remove Mobile Phone from Man’s Stomach in Rare Medical Case

Emergency Surgery in Hurghada

Doctors at the General Hospital in Hurghada, Egypt, have performed a rare and urgent operation to remove a mobile phone from a man’s stomach. The patient was brought to the facility suffering from severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, and extreme weakness.

A medical scan revealed the presence of a dense object inside the stomach, later confirmed to be a small mobile phone.

Successful Removal by Surgical Team

According to the Red Sea Health Directorate, the operation was carried out immediately by a team of specialized surgeons. Hospital director Dr. Karim El-Shabrawy stated that the procedure was completed without complications, and the patient regained consciousness in stable condition.

The man remains under observation to ensure full recovery, while hospital officials have not disclosed how the phone ended up in his stomach.

Not the First Case in Egypt

This is not the first time Egyptian doctors have encountered such an incident. In 2021, another patient required emergency surgery after swallowing a mobile phone that became lodged in the oesophagus. That case, like the current one, ended successfully after prompt medical intervention.

Global Context of Unusual Medical Cases

Cases involving the swallowing of dangerous objects, while rare, are reported globally. Medical professionals emphasize the severe risks such incidents pose, including internal injuries, infection, and in extreme cases, death.

Doctors advise that anyone experiencing persistent abdominal pain after ingesting a foreign object should seek immediate medical attention. Quick diagnosis and surgery are often the key to preventing life-threatening complications.

A Reminder of Medical Preparedness

This case serves as a reminder of the importance of emergency surgical readiness and the capabilities of regional hospitals to handle complex medical emergencies. Hurghada’s General Hospital has reaffirmed its commitment to providing rapid and effective care in critical situations.

Ministry’s Request for Extended Access

The move follows a formal request from the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, which sought to make the application process more accessible, particularly for those unable to visit bank branches during the regular weekday schedule.

The Saturday opening is intended to ease the submission process and ensure that no eligible applicant is hindered by time constraints.

Nationwide Availability at Designated Bank Branches

All participating banks will ensure that selected branches across Pakistan operate on the specified Saturday. These branches have been authorised to accept and process Hajj application forms within the extended timeframe.

The SBP’s directive includes clear operational guidelines for participating banks to maintain efficiency and manage the expected increase in footfall.

Pakistan Records World’s Highest Diabetes Rate, Experts Warn of Amputation Risks

Pakistan Tops Global Diabetes Rankings

Pakistan has officially recorded the highest diabetes rate in the world, sparking urgent warnings from the country’s medical community. Health experts caution that millions are already facing severe complications linked to the disease, threatening both lives and livelihoods.

Millions Facing Risk of Amputations

Speaking at the inauguration of a multi-disciplinary diabetic clinic in Karachi, Professor Zahid Mian revealed that more than 3.4 million Pakistanis are currently at risk of serious injuries or amputations due to diabetic foot disease. This condition, caused by nerve damage and poor blood circulation, can quickly escalate to life-threatening infections if left untreated.

Diabetes and Its Life-Threatening Complications

Prof. Mian stressed that diabetes is one of the leading causes of amputations worldwide and is also a major driver of kidney failure. Beyond amputations, it increases the risk of:

  • Stroke
  • Heart attacks
  • Vision loss
  • Long-term disabilities

“These are not just numbers—they represent lives being lost or forever changed,” he emphasised.

Lifestyle and Early Detection as Key Defences

Health professionals are calling for nationwide awareness campaigns to educate the public on preventive measures. Early diagnosis, proper medical management, and lifestyle changes such as improved diet, regular exercise, and weight control are critical in reducing the disease’s impact.

Doctors also urge patients with diabetes to undergo routine foot examinations to prevent minor injuries from developing into serious infections.

Urgent Need for Policy Action

With diabetes now a national health emergency, experts say the government must prioritise funding for treatment facilities, screening programs, and public health education. Without swift action, the economic and social costs of diabetes-related disabilities and deaths are expected to rise sharply in the coming years.

Islamabad Police Launches ‘One Info App’ for Emergency Assistance

In a landmark move aimed at enhancing citizen safety and convenience, the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police has officially launched the ‘1info’ or ‘One Info App’. This innovative digital tool is designed to provide instant assistance to citizens during emergencies and streamline the process of reporting suspicious or criminal activities. The initiative marks a significant step forward in the modernization of law enforcement services in Islamabad.

The Vision Behind the ‘One Info App’

Director-General of Safe City Islamabad, Shakir Hussain Dawar, elaborated on the app’s purpose and features during an interview on the ARY News program ‘Bakhabar Savera’. He emphasized that the primary goal is to protect citizens by offering a reliable and easy-to-use platform for reaching police support. The app is particularly useful for people who may find it difficult to contact the police through the traditional emergency helpline ‘15’, ensuring that help is always just a tap away.

Dawar highlighted that the Islamabad Police is committed to utilizing technology to improve public safety. The ‘One Info App’ stands as a testament to the department’s dedication, providing residents with an efficient way to report incidents and seek rapid response from law enforcement.

Key Features of the One Info App

The ‘One Info App’ is designed with user-friendly features to cater to the diverse needs of Islamabad’s population. Available for download on both Android and iOS devices, the app offers accessibility and convenience to a wide range of users.

The app’s interface centers around two main buttons:

  • Green Button: This feature allows users to report suspicious activities they have witnessed or experienced. By pressing the green button, citizens can alert the police about potential threats or unusual occurrences in their vicinity, contributing to proactive crime prevention.
  • Red Button: In case of an emergency or ongoing crime, the red button enables users to prompt immediate police action. This function ensures that help is dispatched quickly to the scene, potentially saving lives and property.

Shakir Hussain Dawar explained that complaints received through the app are prioritized based on their urgency. Emergency situations are addressed instantly, while other complaints are recorded and resolved at an appropriate time. This systematic approach guarantees that every concern is attended to efficiently.

Encouraging Public Participation for Safer Communities

The launch of the One Info App is part of a broader strategy by the Islamabad Police to foster community engagement in maintaining law and order. Citizens are strongly encouraged to utilize the app not only during emergencies but also to report any suspicious activity. By empowering residents to participate in their own safety, the police aim to create a more secure environment for all.

Dawar further urged citizens to familiarize themselves with the app’s features and make it an integral part of their daily lives. The accessibility of the app on major mobile platforms ensures that most people can benefit from its services without additional hassle.

Integration with Other City Services and Events

While Islamabad moves forward with digital policing, other cities are adopting similar tech-driven approaches to public safety. For instance, Karachi’s traffic police recently announced a detailed parking and route advisory for Independence Day events, demonstrating the increasing use of technology in city management.

During major public gatherings, such as those at the National Stadium, Karachi authorities have implemented systems to streamline vehicle entry and parking. Only vehicles with special stickers are granted access through designated gates, and shuttle services from parking areas like Expo Centre and China Ground facilitate attendee transportation to the event venue, ensuring order and safety.

A Step Towards Smarter Urban Security

The introduction of the One Info App by Islamabad Police reflects a growing trend of leveraging technology to create smarter, safer cities. By making emergency assistance and crime reporting more accessible, authorities are not only improving response times but also promoting a culture of vigilance and civic responsibility among residents.

Pakistan Independence Day 2025: National Pride and Unity Celebrated

On the landmark occasion of Pakistan’s 78th Independence Day in 2025, national spirit soared as President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif led the nation in celebration. Their official statements reflected deep gratitude to Almighty Allah and heartfelt congratulations to the people of Pakistan, marking nearly eight decades of sovereign existence. The day was filled with ceremonies, tributes, and calls for continued unity and progress, echoing the hopes and aspirations of generations.

Leadership’s Message of Gratitude and Hope

In their Independence Day messages, President Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif thanked Almighty Allah for His blessings and prayed for guidance. Their prayers focused on national unity, progress, and the perseverance required to meet ongoing challenges. Both leaders emphasized that persistence is key to overcoming obstacles and achieving enduring prosperity and success for the country.

President Zardari described the day as one of “renewed pride and hope,” reminding citizens of the significance of remaining steadfast in their collective ambitions. He further stressed that true national progress is a shared responsibility, requiring every Pakistani to work towards common objectives.

Highlighting National Achievements and Military Success

President Zardari’s message paid special attention to Pakistan’s recent military accomplishment in the Marka-e-Haq operation. He praised the unity and strength shown by the nation, which, he said, bolstered confidence in Pakistan’s institutions and elevated its standing in the international community. The President commended the armed forces for their dedication and lauded the resilience of the Pakistani people.

Such achievements, he noted, were not isolated acts but a reflection of the country’s undaunted spirit and capability to meet threats to its sovereignty and security. The success of Marka-e-Haq symbolized the fusion of national resolve and institutional strength—a theme resonating throughout Independence Day ceremonies.

Prime Minister’s Tribute to Founders and Commitment to Reform

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif used his address to honor the sacrifices of the martyrs and the vision of the nation’s founders. He paid homage to Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Muhammad Iqbal, whose leadership and determination transformed the dream of an independent Pakistan into reality. “Their relentless efforts changed the course of history with the establishment of an independent, ideological state, thus realising a seemingly impossible dream into a reality,” said Prime Minister Sharif.

He reaffirmed the government’s dedication to economic reform and the strengthening of national sovereignty. Shehbaz Sharif described Independence Day as not just a celebration, but a call for justice, unity, and peace. He urged all Pakistanis to follow the example of the nation’s pioneers and work together for a brighter future.

Support for Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir

The plight of the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir was a central theme in both leaders’ messages. President Zardari and Prime Minister Sharif reiterated their unwavering support, pledging continued diplomatic and moral advocacy for the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination. Their commitment reflected Pakistan’s longstanding position on the issue and its importance to national identity and foreign policy.

Grand Celebrations Across the Nation

Pakistan Independence Day 2025 was commemorated with a spectacular ceremony at Islamabad’s Jinnah Sports Stadium. The event drew an impressive gathering of top military leaders, dignitaries from abroad, key figures from government and civil society, and enthusiastic citizens. Military parades and air shows displayed the discipline and prowess of the armed forces, while cultural programs highlighted the rich diversity and heritage of Pakistan.

Across cities and towns, patriotic fervour was evident in the vibrant displays, flag hoisting ceremonies, and public festivities. The spirit of unity was reinforced by the leaders’ calls for all Pakistanis to set aside differences and strive together for a prosperous future. The emphasis on collective action and national solidarity echoed throughout the day’s events, inspiring hope and ambition for the years ahead.

WWE Considers Scheduling John Cena’s Farewell Match Against AEW’s Worlds End

The world of professional wrestling is never short on drama, and the latest development could set the stage for one of the most intriguing showdowns outside the ring. WWE is reportedly contemplating moving John Cena’s highly anticipated retirement match to directly compete with All Elite Wrestling’s (AEW) major year-end pay-per-view, Worlds End. This move would not just be a tribute to Cena’s legendary career, but also a clear signal of WWE’s ongoing rivalry with its newest competitor.

Original Plans for Cena’s Final Match

According to Bryan Alvarez of Wrestling Observer Live, WWE’s initial plan was more subdued. Cena’s final in-ring appearance was scheduled to occur during a WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event in early December 2025. This traditional event has provided a platform for major WWE storylines and matches, but it is not typically associated with the same level of spectacle as WWE’s premium live events (PLEs) like WrestleMania or SummerSlam.

This original timing would have allowed Cena’s swan song to stand alone in the wrestling calendar, giving fans an opportunity to celebrate the 16-time world champion’s legacy without any direct competition or distraction from rival promotions.

Potential Clash with AEW Worlds End

However, recent reports suggest that WWE is seriously considering shifting Cena’s farewell match to December 27, the same night as AEW’s Worlds End pay-per-view. While not AEW’s signature show like All In, Worlds End has quickly established itself as one of the promotion’s most important annual events. Featuring marquee matches and long-term storytelling payoffs, it consistently attracts significant attention from wrestling fans and media alike.

By putting John Cena’s final match in direct competition with Worlds End, WWE would be making a bold statement in the ongoing battle for wrestling supremacy. Such a move would not only force fans to choose between two major events, but would also spark conversation and debate across social media and wrestling communities.

Unresolved Details and WWE’s December Schedule

Despite the growing speculation, several key details remain unresolved. WWE currently does not have any premium live event officially scheduled for December 2025. It is unclear whether Cena’s match would be given the spotlight as the main event of a special PLE or if it would still be presented as part of Saturday Night’s Main Event, which traditionally airs on television rather than pay-per-view.

This uncertainty leaves open the possibility for WWE to create an entirely new event centered around Cena’s farewell, maximizing the attention and viewership on what is sure to be an emotional night for fans and the wrestling industry as a whole.

Speculation Surrounding Cena’s Final Opponent

One of the most closely guarded secrets in wrestling right now is the identity of John Cena’s final opponent. With only 12 appearances left on his retirement schedule, anticipation is building for the climactic end to his two-decade-long career.

Early fan speculation centered around names like CM Punk and Cody Rhodes, both of whom have storied histories with Cena and would provide a fitting sendoff for the WWE icon. However, the recent surprise return of Brock Lesnar has added a new layer of intrigue. Lesnar and Cena have a long and brutal history in the ring, making a potential final showdown between the two one of the most compelling possibilities for fans.

Industry Impact of the Head-to-Head Scheduling

Should WWE proceed with scheduling Cena’s farewell against AEW’s Worlds End, the wrestling world will be watching closely. This move could reshape the end-of-year wrestling calendar, forcing fans and commentators to pay attention not just to the matches, but to the strategic maneuvers of wrestling’s biggest companies. In an industry built on competition, spectacle, and surprise, the potential clash between WWE and AEW on December 27, 2025, may set a new standard for the ongoing rivalry.

Israel–South Sudan Talks on Relocating Palestinians Raise Alarm

In a move stirring diplomatic and humanitarian controversy, Israel has reportedly held discussions with South Sudan about relocating Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to the East African nation, a country still reeling from years of war, famine, and political instability.

Six people familiar with the matter told The Associated Press that while the scope of the talks remains unclear, the proposal could see civilians transferred from one hunger-stricken conflict zone to another. Critics say the plan risks breaching international law, which prohibits forced population transfers.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has framed such resettlement as “voluntary migration,” aligning it with former US President Donald Trump’s broader vision of moving Gaza’s population abroad. Netanyahu recently told i24 News, “I think that the right thing to do, even according to the laws of war as I know them, is to allow the population to leave, and then you go in with all your might against the enemy who remains there.” He did not directly mention South Sudan in that interview.

Rights groups, Palestinians, and much of the global community reject the concept, warning it could serve as a blueprint for permanent expulsion and annexation of Gaza’s territory.

A Fragile Offer From a Fragile State

For South Sudan, accepting such a deal could offer diplomatic leverage with Israel and, indirectly, with Washington. Joe Szlavik, head of a US lobbying firm working with the South Sudanese government, said he was briefed on the talks and claimed an Israeli delegation plans to explore setting up camps for Palestinians. While no date has been confirmed, he suggested Israel might fund the camps itself.

Szlavik noted that “cash-strapped South Sudan needs any ally, financial gain and diplomatic security it can get,” particularly as it seeks the lifting of US sanctions and a travel ban.

The arrangement is not without risk for the host nation. Civil society leader Edmund Yakani warned that the government must be clear about “who is coming and how long they plan to stay” to avoid sparking hostility, citing “historical issues with Muslims and Arabs.”

Egypt, which borders Gaza, has lobbied South Sudan against participating in such a plan, fearing a precedent for mass displacement from the territory.

Humanitarian Doubts and Historical Tensions

While some Gazans might consider temporary departure to escape the ongoing war and looming famine, permanent resettlement remains widely opposed. Many fear they would never be allowed to return, paving the way for Israel to annex Gaza and reintroduce Jewish settlements.

South Sudan’s own history complicates the picture. The country emerged from decades of civil war in 2011, only to descend into renewed conflict that killed nearly 400,000 people. Pockets of famine persist, corruption is rife, and international aid is crucial for feeding its 11 million citizens.

The proposal to host displaced Gazans, even under the label of relocating Palestinians, risks placing them in an environment with scarce resources, unresolved ethnic tensions, and fragile peace. As Yakani bluntly put it, “South Sudan should not become a dumping ground for people… and it should not accept taking people as negotiating chips to improve relations.”

Sharp Decline in Global Oil Prices May Bring Relief to Pakistani Consumers

The recent downturn in global crude oil prices has sparked hope for Pakistani consumers who have been grappling with high petroleum product costs. Industry insiders and market observers anticipate that this fall could translate into reduced petrol and diesel prices in Pakistan starting August 16, following the routine price review by the government.

Major Drop in International Crude Oil Prices

Over the past 11 days, international crude markets have experienced a significant dip. US crude oil has slipped by 5.71perbarrel,from5.71perbarrel,from69.26 to 63.48.Similarly,BritishBrentcrudedeclinedby63.48.Similarly,BritishBrentcrudedeclinedby5.72 per barrel, now trading at 65.98comparedto65.98comparedto71.70 earlier this month. This notable decrease is the primary driver behind expectations for lower petrol and diesel prices domestically.

Anticipated Reduction in Local Petrol and Diesel Prices

Market estimates suggest tangible relief for Pakistani motorists and transporters. The ex-refinery price of diesel could drop by Rs10 to Rs12 per litre, with petrol prices likely to fall by up to Re1 per litre. These figures, though preliminary, are based on current international trends and could change once final calculations are completed.

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) will finalize the new rates and forward its recommendations to the Ministry of Finance on August 15. Following approval from the prime minister, the federal government will issue a formal notification. These new rates will be effective from August 16 to August 31, potentially easing the financial strain for many households and businesses across the country.

Government’s Role in Adjusting Fuel Prices

Pakistan’s fuel pricing mechanism allows the federal government to adjust petrol and diesel prices in response to movements in global oil markets. The government regularly reviews rates every fortnight to reflect fluctuations in international prices and other cost factors.

On July 31, the government announced a reduction in petrol prices and an increase in diesel prices for the fortnight starting August 1. These changes were made to align domestic prices with international trends, while also factoring in taxes, levies, and other costs.

Current Petrol and Diesel Prices in Pakistan

As per the Ministry of Finance’s last notification, the price of petrol was set at Rs264.61 per litre after a reduction of Rs7.54. Diesel, however, saw an increase of Rs1.48 per litre, reaching Rs285.83 per litre. While the petrol price decrease was a welcome move, it was somewhat neutralized by adjustments in petroleum levies and other related costs.

Impact of Petroleum Levies and Other Charges

Despite the reduction in base fuel prices, the overall relief to consumers remains limited due to increased petroleum levies. Informed sources reveal that the levy on both petrol and diesel rose by Rs2.55 per litre as of August 1, bringing the total levy to Rs78.02 on petrol and Rs77.01 on diesel.

The climate support levy, a fixed charge of Rs2.50 per litre, continues to add to the cost of both petrol and diesel. Additionally, the freight margin on diesel increased by 20 paisas, now at Rs6.24 per litre. Dealer margins stand at Rs8.64 per litre for both petrol and diesel, while distributor margins are Rs7.87 per litre. These cumulative charges contribute significantly to the final price paid by consumers at the pump.

Factors Influencing Future Price Changes

While the sharp fall in global oil prices has raised expectations for further reductions in local fuel costs, the extent of consumer relief will depend on how the government manages associated levies and margins. The upcoming price review on August 16 will be closely monitored by the public and stakeholders, as many hope for meaningful financial respite amidst ongoing economic challenges.

Why Sleeping With Your Mouth Open May Signal Deeper Health Issues

Many people sleep with their mouths open without realizing it, often dismissing the habit as harmless. However, health experts caution that mouth breathing during sleep can sometimes be a sign of underlying medical concerns requiring attention. While it’s common and often benign, understanding the causes and consequences of this habit is important for overall wellbeing.

Common Causes of Mouth Breathing During Sleep

Sleeping with an open mouth is not always linked to disease. In many cases, it happens when the nose is blocked due to temporary conditions such as a severe cold or allergies. During these periods, nasal congestion makes it difficult to breathe through the nose, prompting mouth breathing as a natural response.

Enlarged tonsils or adenoids can also obstruct the nasal passages, particularly in children. Pediatric health specialists note that children with these conditions are more prone to breathing through their mouths at night. Fortunately, as they grow older, this problem may improve as the tonsils and adenoids shrink or as their facial structure changes.

Medical Issues That May Cause Mouth Breathing

While temporary nasal congestion is a common cause, chronic mouth breathing could indicate more serious medical issues. A bent or crooked nasal septum — the wall dividing the two sides of the nose — can cause persistent nasal blockage. In severe cases, when breathing is consistently difficult, surgical correction may be recommended to restore normal airflow.

Mouth breathing can also be a red flag for sleep apnea, a potentially dangerous sleep disorder characterized by pauses in breathing or shallow breaths during sleep. Experts warn that if mouth breathing is accompanied by loud snoring, choking, or gasping for air, a medical evaluation is crucial. Sleep apnea can have significant health consequences, including increased risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, and daytime fatigue.

Oral Health Consequences of Mouth Breathing

One of the lesser-known impacts of sleeping with your mouth open is its effect on oral health. Breathing through the mouth dries out saliva, which is essential for maintaining a healthy oral environment. Without enough saliva, bacteria can multiply, leading to bad breath, gum irritation, or even inflammation.

Dry mouth also increases the risk of cavities and periodontal disease because saliva helps neutralize acids and wash away food particles. Individuals who consistently breathe through their mouth may notice a persistent dry throat or a recurring cough, both of which could be signs that oral health is being compromised.

Negative Effects on Sleep Quality

Mouth breathing does more than affect oral hygiene; it can also disrupt sleep quality. When the body is forced to adapt its breathing during sleep, especially due to obstructed nasal passages, sleep may become fragmented. People may wake up multiple times during the night, experience non-restorative sleep, or suffer from fatigue during the day. This is particularly concerning when combined with sleep disorders like sleep apnea, which further reduces the body’s ability to rest and recover.

Disturbed sleep not only impacts mood and productivity but can also weaken the immune system over time. For children, poor sleep resulting from mouth breathing can affect growth, cognitive development, and behavior.

When to Seek Medical Advice

Health experts advise consulting a specialist if mouth breathing during sleep becomes a consistent issue, even if it is not accompanied by obvious symptoms like severe dry throat, persistent cough, or breathing difficulty. Identifying and treating nasal obstructions early can prevent long-term complications. An evaluation may include a physical exam of the nose and throat, allergy testing, or a sleep study to rule out disorders like sleep apnea.

Taking these steps can improve both sleep health and overall quality of life.

A highlight of the ceremony was the cutting of a 78-pound cake, underscoring the festive spirit and collective joy associated with the occasion. The cake symbolized unity and the shared achievements of the nation, bringing together attendees in a moment of celebration and solidarity.

A Vision for National Unity and Peace

Minister for Culture and Tourism Zulfiqar Ali Shah articulated the broader vision behind the Azadi Train initiative. He explained that the journey is intended to celebrate Independence Day in a grand and memorable way, creating an opportunity for reflection, joy, and togetherness.

The provincial minister emphasized that the event would serve as a platform to bring together individuals from all walks of life. Civil society members, showbiz personalities, and political figures were all invited to participate, reinforcing the message of national unity and pride. The initiative stands as a testament to the resilience and spirit of Pakistan, inspiring citizens across the country as they commemorate another year of independence.

US Role in Defusing Indo-Pakistan Hostilities: Insights from State Department

The United States has long played a critical role in Southeast Asian stability, particularly during periods of heightened tension between Pakistan and India. Recently, State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce highlighted Washington’s decisive efforts in preventing a conflict from escalating into a catastrophe. Her remarks shed light on the mechanisms and diplomatic strategies employed by the US to steer both nations away from the brink, while emphasizing ongoing cooperation on security and counterterrorism.

Swift Diplomatic Intervention During Crisis

Speaking at a State Department press briefing, Tammy Bruce recounted the intense atmosphere during the recent hostilities between Pakistan and India. She described how the US leadership responded with urgency as the situation threatened to spiral out of control. According to Bruce, immediate action was taken by top officials—including the President, Vice President, and Secretary of State—to address the unfolding crisis.

Bruce shared that in the critical days following the initial escalation, US leaders maintained constant contact with both Islamabad and New Delhi. The State Department facilitated direct lines of communication, working tirelessly to halt further attacks and bring both parties to the negotiating table. This rapid response, she noted, was instrumental in preventing a conflict that could have had dire consequences for the region and beyond.

Recognizing Diplomatic Achievements

Tammy Bruce expressed pride in the US intervention, calling it a testament to the skill and commitment of American diplomats. She highlighted the efforts of Secretary Rubio and Vice President Vance, alongside the broader diplomatic team, in successfully navigating the crisis. Their engagement not only helped avert immediate danger but also laid the groundwork for sustained dialogue and cooperation between Pakistan and India.

Bruce emphasized that the success of these diplomatic endeavors reflects the unique ability of the US administration to engage constructively with diverse international actors. She suggested that having leadership capable of open dialogue with all parties is crucial in bridging differences and fostering stability, especially in volatile situations.

Positive Relations and Commitment to Regional Stability

According to Bruce, Washington’s relationships with both Islamabad and New Delhi continue to be positive. She stressed that maintaining strong ties with each nation is a cornerstone of US foreign policy in South Asia. This balanced approach—and the ability to communicate effectively with both sides—allows the US to play a mediating role during times of tension and contribute to lasting peace.

Bruce also underscored ongoing cooperation between the United States and Pakistan, particularly in the realm of counterterrorism. She pointed to the US-Pakistan Counterterrorism Dialogue as a key example of this partnership, highlighting the shared commitment to combating terrorism in all its forms.

Strengthening Counterterrorism Cooperation

On Tuesday, Pakistan and the US reiterated their joint resolve to address terrorism during the latest round of the Pakistan-US Counterterrorism Dialogue in Islamabad. The meeting, co-chaired by Pakistan’s Special Secretary for the UN, Nabeel Munir, and the US Department of State’s Acting Coordinator for Counterterrorism, Gregory D LoGerfo, focused on enhancing strategies to counter threats from groups like the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), Daesh-Khorasan, and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

This renewed commitment came amid recent developments, including the US designation of the BLA and Majeed Brigade as foreign terrorist organizations. Both delegations acknowledged the need for effective measures against terrorist entities that undermine regional and global security. The US also expressed condolences for the victims of recent attacks in Pakistan, reaffirming solidarity in the fight against extremism.

Discussions during the dialogue centered on building robust institutional frameworks and enhancing capabilities to meet evolving security challenges. Particular attention was paid to addressing the risks associated with emerging technologies being exploited for terrorist activities.

Meghan Markle Unlikely to Attend Key Royal Wedding as Prince Harry Seeks Reconciliation with King Charles

Meghan Markle is reportedly set to skip the upcoming wedding of Peter Phillips, the eldest grandson of Queen Elizabeth II, despite expectations that Prince Harry will attend. The development comes amid reports that Harry has been making efforts to mend his strained relationship with King Charles.

Royal Expert Weighs In on Meghan’s Absence

Speaking to The Express, royal commentator Nick Ede suggested that while Prince Harry’s presence at family celebrations is both expected and necessary for reconciliation, Meghan has no plans to return to the UK for such occasions.

“I don’t think Meghan would attend such an event — I’m sure she will be invited, but she has firmly left the Royal Family behind for her new Montecito life,” Ede explained. “I don’t think she has any desire to come back to the UK.”

According to Ede, the Duchess of Sussex has fully embraced her life in California and prefers to focus on her family, charitable work, and business ventures in the United States.

Harry’s Peace Talks with King Charles

The speculation about Meghan’s absence comes as Prince Harry continues quiet efforts to restore ties with his father. Reports suggest that the Duke of Sussex has tasked senior aides with meeting representatives of King Charles to discuss potential reconciliation.

In a strategic move to avoid further friction, Harry is believed to have offered Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace access to his official engagements diary. This gesture is seen as an attempt to prevent public schedule clashes that could hinder his ongoing talks with the royal household.

Balancing Personal and Public Life

While Harry’s willingness to attend the wedding reflects his desire to rebuild bridges, Meghan’s decision underscores her commitment to the independent life she has cultivated in Montecito. Her absence from major royal events has become increasingly noticeable, signaling a clear shift away from royal traditions.

Whether Harry’s attendance at Peter Phillips’ wedding will mark a turning point in his relationship with the monarchy remains to be seen. For now, the event could serve as an important step in his path toward reconciliation with King Charles.

Dewald Brevis Smashes Records with Stunning Century in Second T20I Against Australia

South African batting sensation Dewald Brevis delivered a breathtaking performance in the second T20I against Australia on Tuesday, rewriting multiple records and cementing his place in cricket history.

A Historic Knock in Darwin

Playing at the Marrara Stadium in Darwin, the 22-year-old right-hander produced an unbeaten 125 off just 56 balls, propelling South Africa to a commanding total of 218 runs. His innings featured an explosive mix of 12 boundaries and eight towering sixes, leaving the Australian bowlers struggling for answers.

Brevis reached his hundred in only 41 deliveries, making it the second-fastest century by a South African in T20 internationals. The record remains with David Miller, who reached three figures in just 35 balls.

Youngest South African to Score a T20I Hundred

This remarkable innings also made Brevis the youngest South African ever to score a century in T20Is. The previous record belonged to Richard Levi, who achieved the milestone at the age of 24.

In another milestone, Brevis broke former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis’s long-standing record for the highest individual score in a T20I by a South African. Du Plessis had scored 119 off 56 balls against the West Indies in 2015, a mark that stood for nearly a decade before Brevis surpassed it.

Australia’s Struggle in the Chase

Chasing 219, Australia faced immediate pressure, losing wickets at regular intervals. Tim David provided some resistance with a brisk 50 off 24 balls, but lacked support from the other end. By the 14th over, the hosts had slipped to 129 for 5 and lost the game.

With this innings, Dewald Brevis has not only etched his name in the record books but also given South Africa a strong platform to dominate the series. His fearless batting and ability to handle high-pressure situations have marked him as one of the most exciting young talents in world cricket.
