Pakistan Passport Fees 2026: Government Says No Reduction Planned

Pakistan passport fees 2026 and e-passport charges

Pakistan’s Interior Ministry has told the Senate that there is currently no proposal under consideration to reduce passport fees, meaning applicants should continue to expect the existing charges for passport issuance.

The statement came in a written reply to a question submitted by Senator Muhammad Talha Mahmood.

According to the ministry, the government collected a total of Rs219.931 billion in passport fees between FY2021-22 and FY2025-26.

No Plan to Cut Passport Fees

The Interior Ministry clearly stated that no proposal to reduce passport charges is currently being considered.

It also explained that the cost of producing and procuring electronic passports is higher than conventional passports, as Pakistan gradually moves from the older machine-readable passport system toward e-passports meeting international aviation standards.

The Directorate General of Immigration and Passports has also been expanding e-passport services as part of this transition.

How Much Has Pakistan Collected in Passport Fees?

The ministry provided the following figures to the Senate:

Why Are E-Passports More Expensive?

The Interior Ministry says the production and procurement costs of e-passports are higher than traditional passports.

An e-passport contains an electronic chip carrying identity and biometric information and is designed to comply with international travel-document standards.

Pakistan has been expanding e-passport issuance nationwide as part of its move toward electronic travel documents.

Will Passport Fees Be Reduced Later?

Nothing in the Senate response rules out a future policy change.

However, as of October 30, 2026, the government’s position is that no passport-fee reduction proposal is currently under consideration.

Applicants should therefore rely on the official DGIP fee schedule rather than social-media claims suggesting an upcoming reduction.

Important Note for Applicants

Passport applicants should always verify the current fee before making payment because government charges and payment procedures can change.

DGIP’s official website remains the primary source for:

  • passport fees;
  • processing times;
  • required documents;
  • passport-office information; and
  • e-passport requirements.
