US-India Defense Deal: US Approves $93 Million Defense Sale to India Amid Strategic Partnership

Javelin Missiles and Excalibur Munitions to Bolster Indian Military Capabilities

The US State Department has approved a significant defense deal with India, authorizing the sale of Javelin anti-tank missile systems and Excalibur guided artillery munitions worth $93 million. The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) announced the foreign military sale on Wednesday, marking India’s first major purchase under this program since bilateral relations faced strain in August. This deal follows India’s recent reorder of General Electric fighter jet engines for its domestically produced Tejas combat aircraft.

Strategic Importance of the Defense Agreement

The DSCA emphasized that this sale aligns with US foreign policy objectives, strengthening the strategic partnership between the two nations. “This proposed sale will improve the security of a major defense partner, which remains crucial for political stability and economic progress in the Indo-Pacific and South Asia regions,” the agency stated. The Indian government has requested 216 Excalibur projectiles and 100 Javelin systems, with RTX Corp and its joint venture with Lockheed Martin serving as the principal contractors for the deal.

Technical and Operational Enhancements for Indian Forces

India currently operates Excalibur munitions with its M-777 Howitzer artillery, while the Javelin systems will introduce advanced anti-tank capabilities to its arsenal. The sale underscores the gradual deepening of US-India defense ties despite recent trade tensions, including increased tariffs on Indian goods by the Trump administration. The agreement signals continued military cooperation between the two democracies amid evolving security challenges in the Indo-Pacific region.

Rawalpindi School Security : Division Schools Implement Enhanced Security Measures

Punjab Government Approves 30,000 Security Personnel Deployment

Following recent security threats and the Islamabad district courts suicide attack, education authorities in Rawalpindi division have issued a comprehensive 10-point security advisory for all public and private schools. The Punjab government has approved the immediate hiring of 30,000 retired military and police personnel on daily wages to bolster security across educational institutions. District and tehsil education officers have been instructed to promptly recruit these personnel as school security guards.

Mandatory Infrastructure Upgrades and Surveillance Systems

The Education Department has mandated critical infrastructure improvements for all schools, requiring boundary walls to be raised to eight feet with an additional two feet of barbed wire. Institutions must install modern CCTV cameras at strategic locations including entry gates, playgrounds, rooftops, and corridors. Each school must also maintain an uninterrupted power supply with heavy-duty battery backup and establish a dedicated control room staffed by a focal person during operational hours. New requirements include metal detectors, walk-through gates, and visitor registration systems recording all entrants’ names and CNIC numbers.

Strict Monitoring and Compliance Enforcement

Education officials will conduct rigorous daily inspections, with assistant district education officers visiting two schools per tehsil each day, while district education officers and chief executive officers will inspect two institutions daily. The advisory warns of disciplinary action against non-compliant school administrators and officials who fail to submit inspection reports. Additional measures include prohibiting students from leaving campus during breaks and banning all unauthorized visitors from school premises. Schools must also prominently display emergency protocols and anti-terror preparedness guidelines as part of the heightened security framework.

Parliamentary Committee Challenges Bank Dress Codes for Women

Government and Lawmakers Oppose Mandatory Abaya Requirements

A parliamentary committee has joined forces with the government to urge the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) to prohibit commercial banks from enforcing mandatory abaya policies for female employees. The Senate Standing Committee on Finance raised concerns that requiring women to wear the religious garment violates personal freedoms and imposes unnecessary religious conformity in the workplace. Senator Zarqa Suharwardy highlighted the issue, stating that Pakistani women already dress modestly and should not be compelled to adopt a specific religious appearance at bank counters.

Senators Condemn Dress Code Enforcement as Overreach

Committee chair Senator Saleem Mandviwala and other members strongly supported the push for regulatory intervention. Senator Farooq Naik likened the enforcement of abayas to forcing men to grow beards, calling it an infringement on individual choice. However, questions arose about the SBP’s authority to regulate internal bank policies, given that dress codes currently vary by institution. A State Bank representative acknowledged the lack of a standardized policy, while Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kiyani pledged to discuss the matter with the SBP governor.

Push for Professional Dress Standards Over Religious Mandates

The committee recommended that the central bank issue a directive promoting a “modest, professional dress code” instead of enforcing religious attire. The move reflects broader debates over workplace dress policies and religious expression in Pakistan, where cultural and professional norms often intersect. If implemented, the new guidelines could set a precedent for gender-inclusive workplace policies in the country’s financial sector.

Karachi Transport Upgrade: Unveils New Double-Decker and Electric Buses in Transport Overhaul

Major Public Transport Upgrade Launches Next Week

Karachi is poised to revolutionize its urban mobility with the introduction of double-decker and electric buses starting next week. The Sindh government’s ambitious initiative, announced by Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, represents the largest modernization of the city’s public transport network in decades. These new vehicles will operate under the People’s Bus Service program across major urban routes, offering residents cleaner, more efficient commuting alternatives to the city’s aging transport fleet.

Comprehensive Sustainable Transport Plan Unveiled

The transport overhaul includes multiple components designed to address Karachi’s mobility challenges. Alongside the new buses, officials confirmed plans to launch an electric vehicle (EV) taxi service by December 2025. The Transport and Mass Transit Department revealed that 500 additional buses will join the fleet during the current financial year, with the first batch arriving within seven days. Representatives from Karachi’s ongoing Yellow Line and Red Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) projects participated in the announcement, signaling coordinated development of the city’s mass transit infrastructure.

Eco-Friendly Solutions for Urban Congestion

The electric buses and forthcoming EV taxis mark Karachi’s first major foray into sustainable public transportation. The double-decker models will provide much-needed capacity on high-demand routes, while the zero-emission vehicles align with global urban sustainability trends. This initiative positions Karachi alongside other progressive cities adopting green transport solutions, potentially serving as a model for other Pakistani urban centers grappling with similar congestion and pollution challenges.

South Korea Marriage Incentive, Offers $38,000 Marriage Incentive to Boost Birth Rates

Cash Grants Aim to Reverse Record-Low Fertility Crisis

South Korea has introduced a bold financial incentive program providing couples with up to $38,000 to encourage marriage, as the nation grapples with the world’s lowest fertility rate of just 0.72 children per woman. The Saha District in Busan launched this initiative as part of urgent national measures to address demographic collapse, with similar programs expected to expand across other municipalities facing population decline.

Economic Support Targets Youth Marriage Hesitation

The comprehensive support package is specifically designed to alleviate financial barriers that discourage young South Koreans from starting families. With housing costs and child-rearing expenses ranking as top concerns among potential newlyweds, the cash grants aim to make marriage and family planning more economically viable. Government data shows nearly 60% of unmarried South Koreans cite financial instability as their primary reason for delaying marriage, creating what demographers call a “marriage strike” phenomenon.

National Strategy Confronts Demographic Emergency

This local initiative reflects South Korea‘s escalating national response to its population crisis, which threatens economic stability and social welfare systems. The country has already invested over $200 billion in various birthrate-boosting programs since 2006, including childcare subsidies and housing support. However, with the population projected to halve by 2100, policymakers are implementing increasingly direct interventions like the Saha District’s marriage package, recognizing traditional incentives have failed to reverse the trend.

Pakistan Begins Modern Ship Refueling Service at Karachi Port

Pakistan has taken a significant step toward modernizing its maritime sector by launching its first fully regulated ship bunkering service at Karachi Port. The development marks a major transformation in the country’s port capabilities and brings local operations closer to global fuel handling and safety standards.

The new service was officially announced by Maritime Affairs Minister Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, who highlighted its importance for Pakistan’s economic and strategic future. He stated that standardizing bunkering practices will help Karachi Port compete more effectively with established regional hubs and attract more international shipping lines looking for dependable refueling stations.

For years, commercial vessels operating in the region were forced to divert to Fujairah or Singapore for refueling due to the absence of proper bunkering facilities in Pakistan. This not only increased costs for shipping lines but also reduced Pakistan’s potential revenue from the global maritime industry.

The introduction of a regulated bunkering system is expected to change this dynamic. The initiative enhances operational safety, ensures transparent procedures and builds trust among global carriers that depend on secure and efficient fuel services during transit.

Officials believe the move will strengthen Karachi Port’s standing in the region, offering shipping companies a faster and more cost-effective alternative. It also opens new economic avenues for Pakistan by aligning the country’s maritime operations with international expectations, improving competitiveness and supporting trade growth.

The new system is projected to boost ancillary services as well, including logistics, fuel testing, environmental compliance and workforce training. The government plans to expand capacity over time, enabling Karachi to position itself as a reliable fueling destination for vessels traveling across busy international routes.

With this development, Pakistan has entered a new phase in its maritime modernization journey. The launch of regulated bunkering services signals the country’s commitment to becoming a stronger participant in global shipping networks and offering facilities that meet modern industry standards.

Babar Azam Penalty: He Penalized by ICC for Code of Conduct Breach

Pakistan Captain Fined for On-Field Outburst

Pakistan’s star batsman and national team captain Babar Azam has been penalized by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for violating the Code of Conduct during the third ODI against Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi. The incident occurred on November 14, 2025, when Babar, visibly frustrated after his dismissal, struck the stumps with his bat before leaving the crease. This display of dissent was captured by broadcast cameras and promptly noted by match officials.

ICC Deems Action a Level 1 Offense

The ICC classified Babar’s behavior as a Level 1 offense under Article 2.2 of their Code of Conduct, which prohibits the abuse of cricket equipment or fixtures during international matches. As punishment, the Pakistani skipper was fined 10% of his match fee and received one demerit point on his disciplinary record. Notably, this marks Babar’s first Code of Conduct violation in the past 24 months, reflecting his generally disciplined on-field conduct. The charges were brought forth by on-field umpires Alex Wharf and Rashid Riaz, with Babar accepting the sanctions without requesting a formal hearing.

Match Officials Enforce Discipline Standards

This incident highlights the ICC‘s continued emphasis on maintaining decorum in international cricket. While Level 1 offenses are considered the least severe category under the Code of Conduct, they still carry tangible consequences for players. The demerit point system, introduced to track player discipline over time, could lead to more serious sanctions if accumulated offenses occur within specified periods. Cricket analysts note that such disciplinary actions serve as important reminders for players about professional conduct expectations, even in high-pressure situations.

NCCIA Takes Action Against Privacy Violations

The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has arrested TikTok user Usman Shabbir in Multan for allegedly sharing explicit videos of an individual without consent. This arrest comes amid increasing scrutiny of privacy violations and unethical content circulation on social media platforms across Pakistan. Such incidents have become alarmingly frequent, prompting stricter monitoring of social media activities. Rising Concerns Over Social Media Misuse

The arrest has reignited discussions about responsible social media usage and platform accountability. Digital rights advocates warn that unchecked sharing of explicit material causes lasting harm to victims while eroding online safety. As authorities intensify their crackdown, this case may set a precedent for how Pakistan handles similar privacy violations in the future. The NCCIA’s swift action demonstrates the growing priority given to cybercrime prevention and the protection of personal dignity in digital spaces.

President Asif Ali Zardari has bestowed Pakistan’s highest civilian honor, the Nishan-e-Pakistan, upon Jordan’s King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein. The prestigious award recognizes the Jordanian king’s significant contributions toward promoting peace and stability in the region as well as across the globe. The special investiture ceremony took place at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, where top civil and military leadership, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, were in attendance. The honor reflects Pakistan’s strong appreciation for Jordan’s support on issues of mutual importance.

Prior to the ceremony, President Zardari hosted King Abdullah II at a luncheon, symbolizing deep diplomatic warmth and cooperation between the two countries. The event served as a high-level reaffirmation of bilateral friendship based on shared values and long-standing collaboration.

Strengthening Diplomatic and Strategic Relations

During the engagement, King Abdullah II reciprocated the goodwill by conferring the Wisam al-Nahdah al-Mursa, or the Order of the Renaissance, upon President Zardari. The award is one of Jordan’s most distinguished state honors, traditionally presented to heads of state and notable international dignitaries.

Both leaders held discussions focused on international and regional developments, acknowledging ongoing security challenges in the Middle East. They emphasized the need to expand multilateral cooperation and humanitarian initiatives at global platforms. King Abdullah II expressed pride in the strong ties between Pakistan and Jordan, noting the shared commitment to expanding cooperation across various sectors including defense, economy, and cultural exchange.

Senior officials present during the meeting included Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Climate Change Senator Musadik Malik, and ambassadors from both nations. Their presence highlighted the collaborative efforts underway to enhance bilateral relations at institutional levels.

Joint Stance on Palestine and Middle East Peace

A major highlight of the discussions was the mutual reaffirmation of unwavering support for Palestinian rights. President Zardari and King Abdullah II reiterated that peace in the Middle East cannot be achieved without a sustainable and just resolution to the Palestinian conflict. They underscored their strong backing for a two-state solution that guarantees the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state.

Both leaders emphasized that any plan involving displacement of Palestinians is unacceptable. They called for the creation of a Palestinian state along pre-June 1967 borders with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its rightful capital. Their remarks came at a time when senior Israeli officials publicly rejected the idea of Palestinian statehood, further escalating concerns over regional stability.

Pakistan and Jordan have consistently maintained a principled position on the Palestinian cause, advocating for peace based on international law and United Nations resolutions. Their shared commitment reinforces the importance of collective diplomatic efforts required to address ongoing humanitarian crises.

The installation of digital signages and modernization of city infrastructure are expected to contribute to a more organized and aesthetically pleasing environment.

The project aims to improve overall road efficiency and reduce travel time across the network, supporting the long-term transportation goals of the city.

Chairman Randhawa instructed the Project Director and Resident Engineers to maintain continuous on-site supervision and ensure timely execution of all remaining tasks. Strict monitoring will help the project stay aligned with its deadline and performance benchmarks. The Shaheen Chowk Underpass is considered an important initiative toward enhancing the road infrastructure and maintaining Islamabad’s reputation as a well-planned capital.
